This is definitely the best episode of the 1989 Around The World series. Just Michael on a small boat traveling from Arabia to India for eight days. Michael brought back the romance and adventure of travel.

This was the best episode ever. Very basic transportation, yet very dependable and with a wonderful Gujarati crew. Especially the old fellow. I am glad I have this and the whole documentary on dvd.

this is remarkably funny..and i just love this whole journey he goes through..im thinking of buying the whole dvd and perhaps some of his other voyages..and you know on bbc they show the around the world in 20 years video..which shows him going back to all the places he visited, finding this boat and the crew!!

yeah i saw the atw in 20 years program last nite and it brought back memories cos i remember watching the atw in 80 years series in about 2000 or 2001 which was tremendous. Palin became affectionate towards the crew on this ship al-shama cos they looked after him so well and became very friendly with him on the journey to mumbai that he went looking for them 20 years later. can't believe how much he's aged tho
