let it rain oldsmobiles wondering why? didn't oldsmobile come out with a nastalgic cutlass line like a throw back I think It would have kept them in buisness like ford with the T-Bird ,or dodge with the charger ect.???????????
Great Capture, I remember reading the story,"Why I Will Not Drive A Funny Car Again" by John S. That Terrifying Toronado and all HURST cars were RAD! They used to sell those PICs at the track, now I wish I had bought some, just excellent, Thanks.
@RogerWilbur Not sure who "John S." was that wrote the book you're talking about, but a guy named "Gentleman" Joe Schubeck or maybe spelled Shubeck was the driver of the Hurst Hairy Olds. I do remember him saying the same thing. The Hairy Olds was just totally un-driveable. I think Joe said all you could do basically was point it straight at the green lite and try to feather it down the track. But truly, just an unmanageable vehicle.
Dont know. They may have made a couple. They had the same problem with the Hairy Olds. In this video see both 66 and 67 Hairy Olds. They couldnt control these cars.
@vistacruiser67 the torque steer from the front wheels made them impossible to steer. i saw a hairy olds in a museum so at least one wasn't destroyed.
@angusyoungsg I'm pretty sure that within the last couple of years, a huge project to either re-build one of these Hairy Olds' that wrecked OR to re-construct one from the original blueprint / plans was undertaken. Perhaps others can add to what I'm trying to remember here. Yeah, maybe the last 2-3 yrs. this took place. It was a major major project. Perhaps this is what you saw in the museum?
@vistacruiser67 That is true, both of these cars had basically the same problem...too much torque and no way to plant it. The hairy olds would kick sideways if you got on it and end up like the image at 1:00. The only way they could come up with a correction was to make one engine turn right hand and the othe to turn left. Due to cost they scrapped the idea. If they could have hooked them up it would have been record setting. They are still very sweet. I can remember watching these run.
Those are some nice ass rides man, I wish I could go back in a time machine and live a little bit of that era of my parents generation. Keep the Old's videos coming, great work!!

Lead in pic shows a 5 million+ dollar prototype car... I think it still holds a Barrett Jackson record.

GM has a great history of engines B.O.P., SBC, BBC, LT5, and my favorite the LS. Ford and Chrysler got some nasty stuff too, but i love them GMs

My grandpa got his W-30 455 Olds Cutlass SX from Ron Berejik. What's he up to now, I wonder since Oldsmobile is defunct.

Great post!!!
I still say the generation that was able to buy musclecars from the dealer in the late 60s/early 70's lived in the best of times..
Imagine talking to your car salesmen..and he asks..well want options do you want? 350, 383, 400, 454.
Wow can you imagine..now we are reduced to deciding what fuel do we want the car to burn...
