  • I saw a photograph of Mildred Burke flexing her muscles when I was thirteen. I found this photograph thrilling and threatening. As a man who admires all women who challenge stereo type I found this woman freakish, challenging and sexy. Wrestling let alone women wrestling in New Zealand is unknown. I would have liked to meet this woman.

  • I can see why she was so popular!

  • Someone should do a TV movie about Mildred's life.

  • mildred burke is easily one of the best wrestlers, man or woman, ever.

  • too bad it is fake.....

  • @zagat44 It was never "fake" what you see here is hard work and true talent. Maybe the word you were looking for was "fixed" and not all of the matches that my great grandmother wrestled were "fixed". She did some real fighting in her time.

  • My Aunt Mars started with the first lady wrestlers as well. Her name was Mars Foreit but her show name was Mars Bennett. She was killed by a drunk driver on her way to a wrestling match back in the late 40's or 50's. I wish I would have known her or known some of the women she wrestled with. I would have loved to have heard some of the stories.

  • sweet

  • My mother-in-law wrestled with these women, I am looking for footage of her, but did not find any, if anyone has footage of Ida May Martenez, please post and identify it. Thanks

  • @dat2000srl .. Get the DVD Lipstick and Dynomite Miss Martinez is on there... an she seems like a very nice lady.... I remember watching her wrestle on tv back in the 60-70 era.... Keith and Dee

  • My aunt wrestled, when it was REAL!

    She retired undefeated, world champion.

    Moolah was all for show!

  • who was your aunt??

  • Mildred Burke

  • very cool, if your telling the truth

  • Well, I have no reason to lie. But I can understand your being skeptical. Stinky411 is my son's acct. I'm just commenting in it. Mildred Burke is my mothers aunt. Which makes her my great aunt, and my son's great-great aunt.

It's our tiny claim to fame.

  • She is your great aunt? She is my great grandmother. My mother also used to wrestle under her. We should get in contact.

  • I've never met any of her kids, or grandkids. Sorry I'm not familiar with your name.

  • @stinky411 Well she only had one child, Joe Wolfe. He is my grandfather. He knows about some of our living extended family and we are really interested in learning about more. We have family photos from way back and we might have some of your side of the family. So if you are interested in connecting with me then let me know.

    Kelly

  • @anitamiland Hi Anita, It's great to hear from you. I would love to talk more and learn about your side of the family. I tried to write to your posted email address, anitamiland@yahoo.com, but it's not working. Do you have another email?

  • @Kellytiger8

Hi Kelly its Anita sorry I didnt get back to you sooner but PLEASE call me 626-367-0016 ASAp Thanx and God Bless You

  • Mildred Burke is the Lou Thesz of women's wrestling.

  • midred burke was my great great aunt

    for real

  • why the negativity!

    jealous?

  • I'v been wanting 2 see a clip of Midred Burke for a long time thanx :) Did she ever have a match with Moolah???

  • I don't think they did, could of course be wrong though

would have been a hell of a match

  • There's very little Burke material on YT. A New York times reporter has just published a Burke biography - he feels that the infamous Byers / Burke match of '54 was in fact a genuine shoot.

  • wouah this is old thanks mildred burker is one of the 1st female wrestler

  • Given how long ago all this was, these women were truly remarkable. OK, maybe it's more the stuff of circus than sport, but it warrants respect and admiration nevertheless.

  • from what year?
