Let me make an app with just one button, should be right up your alley. The only thing it does is draw money from your bank account to pay for more overpriced, antiquated garbage. It's called The Apple Store.
Yeah seems a little like it duplicates other feature, I was thinking of Foursquare tips all the time.
Also, what my 'friends' like I don't really like, so I wonder how the recommendations most relevant to you are handled? How will the users choose who their friends are?
I think this is great, a really interesting niche to be filled. Great work, Kev. Only suggestion I could add is, if everything is number based, in terms of placement i.e. 15th best compared to 3rd best. Why not have the person oinking rate things numerically? As opposed to heart, like, soso and dislike. I'm assuming those equate to 100, 75, 50, 25 anyways. Or 0 for dislike. I know it'd be less simple, but it'd give the Oinker more options.
What is it about the image of someone speaking at any kind of technology expo with a microphone strapped to their head that just wreaks of a bad movie scene?
A heart, a like, a soso, and a dislike tag? That doesn't seem quite polarizing enough to provide people with that intense love/hate relationship that builds great products in the end. Then again, the design is BRILLIANT. I love the oink button at the bottom center, Daniel is clearly a genius. I love the subtle drop shadows that aren't overused on the texts in the ribbons, and a few other bits. I should say I feel compelled to say this will be an amazing product regardless of my opinions.

this milk company sounds a bit depressing, trying 2-3 projects a year until something sticks :/

Just because you rate and eat a lot of sushi doesn't suddenly mean you know good sushi. There should be a better way of gaining cred.

How can I get the app?
phototristan 4 months ago
Good idea but has problems to watch out for.
1) It will be hard to start off. Few will use it when almost nothing already has ratings.
2) Not everything is going to have a UI-friendly picture.
3) People could be corruptible with their reviews if they start getting deals from certain places.
Just some stuff I noticed...

It definitely is superior to other apps at the moment... but is it enough to win? I hope so Kevin, but im not sure.

The UI is sublime, I hope it has enough to distinguish it from similar apps.

I'm guessing it will be a while until this is useful in smaller cities, but if it catches on I can see this being a great app.

If I had to say myself, Kevin Rose just "gets it". This app makes a lot of sense.

Love the app and can't wait to try it, but I have to ask about the naming and verbiage. Why the name oink?
"Amber oinked about the halibut at XYZ Cafe and I know I can trust her because she is a level 3 in fish. "
This pulls at my gaming nerdiness strings, but I wonder about wide appeal.

@macewan its an iOS app. If it was an HTML5 app it would work for both phones but since it is an iOS app it only works for iPhones.
