Hansons was bought by Safeway, which became Carr's/Safeway, they sold to Hanson's Nome, who didn't have capital or will to improve it while A.C. did a huge expansion/redo, and Hanson's lost nearly all of it's market-share. They couldn't keep milk and bread on the shelves, so they went out of business, I think about September, 2005. AC has a much better central location.
It was empty until it was knocked down. I don't know if KIC even tried to lease the space- it was in pretty bad shape.
The unsubstantiated rumor I heard was that NANA would build a new hotel on the lot. Not sure if the old hotel would be torn down or become office space or what.
