What is the name of the instrumental he is scratching on in the beginning? Someone on youtube called called Masek posted that beat claiming he made it. I want to post the original track on his video comments to expose him as a thief. Someone help me out. The video is called Masek - When Days Are Like That
@BeatsByWeight I have also heard that scratch line before recently, I was like o wtf that was from that jazzy jeff video, but then maybe he sold it to someone... I cant remember where i heard it tho
@BeatsByWeight That samples been used by many no way is Masek or JJ the first people to use it. Regrets by Masta Ace comes to mind right a way plus a slew of others. Its a David Axelrod sample which means its pretty well known in the first place.
@ugz31 On David McCallum's "The Edge", was supposedly mono (I don't own a copy, can't be sure). But '05 rerelease was stereo. If you pan the instrumental to the left, you'll hear more bass, to the left more drum. From there, it's a matter of filtering and EQing. I've tried to remake it, but I always get serious ducking between the flute and bass line.
@DOlogunde I just got back on here and saw this...I like that beat...i hope you get succesful on that..the beat does sound like the Masta Ace song tho
I have a very good feeling about Ableton once i learn the things i need to know, it will change the way i create my music to be soultaking real hip hop ish!!! Good lookin' out Jazz...Peace
Not sure why, but the phrase "DJ Jazzy Jeff" just makes me smile... :-) sort of like "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes"... seriously, say it lots of times, the words disappear and the beauty of the sound of human speech takes over...
@TheNonWho i know that, i wanted to know where exactly in the sampler he was throwing it, cause i thought you could only put one sample in it, for the longest time till i saw this video it made me think. But I just figured it out, in the zone tab of the sampler, there is a section next to the piano roll, that you can drag infinite clips into it.
Yeah, first he warped it so you get it on time with the bpm you want. If you like the way an MPC works, check out JBlongz MPC chopping and slicing preset. WATCH THAT VIDEO. Save that preset. Then just right click on song, choose option slice to midi, Do a bar, half a bar, 1/4 bar...whatever you want. Then choose the MPC setting you setup from JBlongz vid. And walla!!! You got a digital MPC and hip beats start to come out fresh!!
@Ibprius thanks, but i already figured it out. the answer i was looking for was by pressing the alt button moves the samples on the piano roll. PS i hate hip hop, im a house music producer.
I want to learn how to scratch like Jeff. He's got the funk jazz hip-hop sound down. Wonder if Will Smith funded his entire studio setup? Jk...if you wanna check out strange hip-hop produced entirely in Ableton check my uploads. Shameless plug I know
@JosephCee Jazzy Jeff is an old skool DJ. Never too late to catch up on his work. I've seen him play live in Baltimore and Miami, and he really knows how to rock it.
not to sound ignorant but whats the name of that midi tool on his right side at about 5;19? looks like its worth getting (the one that looks almost mpc'ish)
FL STUDIO is the best. Fl STUDIO is the probably the most underated yet the most powerful DAW I have ever experienced I am sticking with my FL STUDIO the best.
@fetishb Yeah no I use a combo daw of logic and ableton so I bought this decent 88 key controller and I'm pretty much done with synths unless I can pick up like a Moog on the cheap. I'll just use Vst If its not an analogue synth its hard to tell the difference in sound
ive always believed ableton was the best. so sick of everone saying logic and stuff are better cause they have better sounds.....fuck that get some killer vsts!
really good vid really enjoyed the sampler bit may have to try that :D
@spiderrichard Ableton clearly has more sounds than logic. There really is no comparison. If you have the full version of ableton its like 30 to 40 gigs worth.
@myballsareunited I never said logic had more. My comment said that people have told me logic has better sounds. Obviously opinions will differ cause different people like different sounds.
i personally never use any of the sounds in ableton (although i probably should have a good look through them) i always use plugins and drum samples i've got elsewhere. I just like abletons setup its so easy to use :D
My old, rackmount sampler doesn't store samples to the floppy any more. I'm going to fix it, one day.
Back at the ranch though, I researched the AKAI MPD24 for a long time and I knew that it would be a good MIDI Controller. It came with Ableton and I installed it on my laptop before putting it in my studio to control my Presonus Firestudio Project.
Basically, if you're trying to do Hip Hop, the AKAI MPD 24 or 26 is probably all you ever need to get tracks off.
Hi everyone... Does anyone know how he makes scratches at 0:12 ? He uses DJ controller... Can I make stuff like this using my APC40 controller with Live8? Or I need something else.
@brecel Yes, he got the turntable, I see. But I wish to know how to make scratching with apc40, 'cos it has the same mixing slider on the board. Anyone, help!!!
hi guys, does anyone actually know how you can set up your keyboard like this (with ableton), so that it starts playing a clip as long as you have your finger on a keyboard button pushed, and after relasing it stops it (midi or audio),.. and restarts from the beginning again when pushing again of course..!?!
i already defined some clips/samples in ableton via keyboard, it starts playing the whole clip untill i push the key on the keyboard again.. but not already after releasing my finger..

@06GreenThumb He didn't make the video, the people who make ableton did. So unless he is on contract to keep up comments on this video and give advice to idiots i don' think he's going to be replying.

I also want to explain to people that all software is almost limitless, it's the human mind of doing things that is limited.
As far as this guy's set up... All I would want would be a MIDI Keyboard with pitch-bend and some nobs for recording automation. Then I'd be set for life...maybe.
Just remember guys, all the gear in the world will not make you a good beat maker. Hone your craft night and day. The equipment is immaterial, you, the creative force are the most important part of music.

@06GreenThumb He didn't make the video, the people who make ableton did. So unless he is on contract to keep up comments on this video and give advice to idiots i don' think he's going to be replying.

I laughed at the "OOOH!" part of the video.
