  • Thats the best sales pitch i ever heard. Ableton, hire this man

  • 4:06 Aww man i really dont like that. Doing drums on a keyboard just doesn't seem right to me especially when he has pads right next to him

  • amen

  • I think Jazzy Jeff is gay for Ableton...

  • @mrmoserdozer make no mistake, he is getting paid for his endorsement.

  • Every time I look at this video.....He makes me wanna open Ableton and make a beat! Hip Hop!!!! Damn.

  • This is exactly what I say. Ableton is simply the best period.

The most user friendly program on the market.

  • @e11vn27 cant hate that price tag?

  • This is exactly what I say. Ableton is simply the best period.

  • DONT THING SO BRO ABELTON IS MAYBE HISOTREY BEST PROGRAM !!!

  • reason 5!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5:30 weeeed next to the speaker

  • @1m3a3a7v that's not weed you idiot, it's a symbol on the book as you see when the camera angle is elevated..

  • aeileon.com

  • this video made my decision to buy live over other DAWs

  • Very impressed

  • The shakers improve all the groove of the song, because it is not a very complex track :-) It is juste for the video...

  • dj jazzy jeff says ableton is the best option; i immediately download ableton

  • @tomismop ??

so u go by what somebody says??.....ex: dj jazzy jeff not hatin..but I use reason I've had r3 r4 r5....used all three...all tho I have used ableton...and to be honest I didn't like it....that's just me....it might not be u?!.....but it's all in how u use it.....use what u got...but who is actually gonna do that?!?.....I got ableton live lite....I've tryed it....and to be true on it....to ME?...it's COMPLEX as hell maybe I need to learn more on it....

  • check out the minc flyer in the back of JJ, i see you dallas

  • What is the name of the instrumental he is scratching on in the beginning? Someone on youtube called called Masek posted that beat claiming he made it. I want to post the original track on his video comments to expose him as a thief. Someone help me out. The video is called Masek - When Days Are Like That

  • @BeatsByWeight I have also heard that scratch line before recently, I was like o wtf that was from that jazzy jeff video, but then maybe he sold it to someone... I cant remember where i heard it tho

  • @BeatsByWeight That samples been used by many no way is Masek or JJ the first people to use it. Regrets by Masta Ace comes to mind right a way plus a slew of others. Its a David Axelrod sample which means its pretty well known in the first place.

  • Roses are red, Violets are blue...

  • is that Bruce Bowen standing in the background?

  • I love Ableton but the sequencer on the MPCs, just feel tighter and more musical.

  • wakka wakka dj jazzy jeff homeless

  • How did Jeff detect those beats?

  • Comment removed

  • i LOVE the dry erase tags in the background ahaha..

  • Makes me feel like I'm on the right track

  • Good Info. Respect.

  • What workstation is that? (keyboard)

  • That beat he scratchin to....its basssline is more fuller than what i heard on other songs with the same sample....smooth instrumental to ride tho..

  • @ugz31 On David McCallum's "The Edge", was supposedly mono (I don't own a copy, can't be sure). But '05 rerelease was stereo. If you pan the instrumental to the left, you'll hear more bass, to the left more drum. From there, it's a matter of filtering and EQing. I've tried to remake it, but I always get serious ducking between the flute and bass line.

  • @DOlogunde I just got back on here and saw this...I like that beat...i hope you get succesful on that..the beat does sound like the Masta Ace song tho

  • if only live wasnt so damn confusing

  • cool man, l have very good feeling

  • (fresh prince of bel air joke hear) ahhahahahahahah. snap, snap

  • lol nice but.. very very old style!

  • I have a very good feeling about Ableton once i learn the things i need to know, it will change the way i create my music to be soultaking real hip hop ish!!! Good lookin' out Jazz...Peace

  • cool

  • ja sicher du kasper. geh dich mal abschminken...

  • @Borpower Vielleicht hältst du einfach mal dein Maul, du planloser Fascho.

  • Nice, Whiteboard full of tags.

  • Jazzy Jeff definitely dropped the jaw of Hilary Banks with the way he chopped up that James Brown sample. LOL

  • Not sure why, but the phrase "DJ Jazzy Jeff" just makes me smile... :-) sort of like "Diamonds on the soles of her shoes"... seriously, say it lots of times, the words disappear and the beauty of the sound of human speech takes over...

  • Goodbye Reason - Hello Ableton. Nice one aar kid.

  • Can someone explain how he programmed this into sampler. Did he drag the whole song into there? kinda doesnt work just that easy

  • @UrbanLikwid he chopped it by pressing ctrl+E to chop the track up in tro the pieces you want

  • @TheNonWho i know that, i wanted to know where exactly in the sampler he was throwing it, cause i thought you could only put one sample in it, for the longest time till i saw this video it made me think. But I just figured it out, in the zone tab of the sampler, there is a section next to the piano roll, that you can drag infinite clips into it.

  • @UrbanLikwid

Yeah, first he warped it so you get it on time with the bpm you want. If you like the way an MPC works, check out JBlongz MPC chopping and slicing preset. WATCH THAT VIDEO. Save that preset. Then just right click on song, choose option slice to midi, Do a bar, half a bar, 1/4 bar...whatever you want. Then choose the MPC setting you setup from JBlongz vid. And walla!!! You got a digital MPC and hip beats start to come out fresh!!

  • @Ibprius thanks, but i already figured it out. the answer i was looking for was by pressing the alt button moves the samples on the piano roll. PS i hate hip hop, im a house music producer.

  • @UrbanLikwid

Kinda an arrogant response...sorry that you hate hip-hop....

  • that studio is lookin so nice....btw good looks on that oddisee album jazzy jeff

  • what sample is dat

  • I want to learn how to scratch like Jeff. He's got the funk jazz hip-hop sound down. Wonder if Will Smith funded his entire studio setup? Jk...if you wanna check out strange hip-hop produced entirely in Ableton check my uploads. Shameless plug I know

  • its so true though. ableton is fuckin amazing. i feel the same way about it, the possibilities are endless

  • he has a korg padkontrol. I have one too. I'm happy now

  • This dude is the man !!!! Let's go jazzy!!!

  • dope. weird to see him as a real artist. ima be honest, i only knew him as will's homie on fresh prince when i was growing up.

  • @JosephCee Jazzy Jeff is an old skool DJ. Never too late to catch up on his work. I've seen him play live in Baltimore and Miami, and he really knows how to rock it.

  • this must have been what he was up too when he wasn't hitting on hillary.

  • Anyone know the track that was sampled right at the beginning of the video? That's a nice sample.

  • @floyd741 I feel good with the late great James Brown

  • @HiSp33D Nah not that, I know that song. I mean the one that play immediately after Ableton's intro. The one he's scratching over.

  • @floyd741 I dont know the name of the beat but masta ace mc'ed over it

  • @floyd741-it's 'the edge' by david McCullum (off of Man from Uncle). It's the sample Dr Dre used for 'the next episode' with snoop on the chronic 2001

  • to all producers!

i've got real brass samples on my page

    check the main video

  • and to think uncle phil always used to throw him out the house

  • i feel good sample at the end

  • Oh shit theres uncle phill

  • what name of frist beat ?

  • ableton is great, but this dude makes no sense.

  • "If everyone knew what this did, this would prolly be the main program that everyone would use." ABLETONS THE SHIT.

  • not to sound ignorant but whats the name of that midi tool on his right side at about 5;19? looks like its worth getting (the one that looks almost mpc'ish)

  • @adamnubian

    korg pad kontrol.

  • one of the best djs!

  • why have i watched this 10 times or so????

  • Man you can chop and do all that and lay it out on the NNXT and Record has the two best time stretches on earth. I can't mess with live.

  • Nah I'd rather roll with Record and Reason . I can't mess with LIve.

  • @44danoc everybody has their own taste in DAWs, depending on what you want to be accomplished..

  • im just waiting for uncle phil to throw his ass out the house

  • @Doplarmusic boooo!!!!!!

  • @Doplarmusic

    you're cool, guy.

  • you look like adrian from 12th planet

  • whats the song called at 01:37 ??? :)

  • FL STUDIO is the best. Fl STUDIO is the probably the most underated yet the most powerful DAW I have ever experienced I am sticking with my FL STUDIO the best.

  • Jazze, how about FL Studio? switch over to FL STUDIO!

  • Anyone know where to get that song he made at the end? That shit was fuckin slick.

  • why the fuck is that guy just standing there! sit your ass down!

  • @samus7 Hes protecting him from will's uncle, so he don't throw his ass out the house :)

  • @TheSabatrixx true that lol!

  • Haaaaiiiiiiii - The way he sampled James Brown was awesome!

  • Jeff is sooo talented.

  • lol the beat at the end made my buy ableton

  • Can you use the mbox sound with ableton live? Is it compatible? *crossing fingers*

  • That is a roland Fantom G8

  • @myballsareunited yup :))

  • @fetishb I had an XA man but I had no daw to use so I used onboard recording and without a daw that is the worst synth on the planet to record with.

  • @myballsareunited i feel you. i have a fanton x 6 and a mv 8800

  • @fetishb Yeah no I use a combo daw of logic and ableton so I bought this decent 88 key controller and I'm pretty much done with synths unless I can pick up like a Moog on the cheap. I'll just use Vst If its not an analogue synth its hard to tell the difference in sound

  • ive always believed ableton was the best. so sick of everone saying logic and stuff are better cause they have better sounds.....fuck that get some killer vsts!

really good vid really enjoyed the sampler bit may have to try that :D

  • @spiderrichard Ableton clearly has more sounds than logic. There really is no comparison. If you have the full version of ableton its like 30 to 40 gigs worth.

  • @myballsareunited I never said logic had more. My comment said that people have told me logic has better sounds. Obviously opinions will differ cause different people like different sounds.

i personally never use any of the sounds in ableton (although i probably should have a good look through them) i always use plugins and drum samples i've got elsewhere. I just like abletons setup its so easy to use :D

  • I liked the way Jeff cut up that James Brown ending of "I Feel Good" into that swing groove he created. He had that goin' on!

  • yeah that shyt was hott!!

  • Well that's great, I made pretty much the same beat as he's got in the intro, with more variation... I hate it when that happens :P

  • word, yes nice toon at end, i like the way he got emotional!!

  • My old, rackmount sampler doesn't store samples to the floppy any more. I'm going to fix it, one day.

Back at the ranch though, I researched the AKAI MPD24 for a long time and I knew that it would be a good MIDI Controller. It came with Ableton and I installed it on my laptop before putting it in my studio to control my Presonus Firestudio Project.

Basically, if you're trying to do Hip Hop, the AKAI MPD 24 or 26 is probably all you ever need to get tracks off.

  • sound like the fresh prince could get on this and kill it

  • this nigga know wazzup with beats

  • Crazy, Bronze Nazareth also sampled this on his Great Migration album. Dope shit.

  • Axlerodd :D

  • anyone know if he ever released that james brown beat?

  • maybe next time show better pictures of the screen pretty pointless kiss ass video for ableton really

  • ur the man jazzy jeff seriously I wish I had this guy as a teacher

  • Can you warp in Live intro?

  • Hi everyone... Does anyone know how he makes scratches at 0:12 ? He uses DJ controller... Can I make stuff like this using my APC40 controller with Live8? Or I need something else.

    Cheers :)

  • @Lastangels watch it again, its a turntable spinning and scratching on the left. guess he loops it into a clip!

  • @brecel Yes, he got the turntable, I see. But I wish to know how to make scratching with apc40, 'cos it has the same mixing slider on the board. Anyone, help!!!

  • hi guys, does anyone actually know how you can set up your keyboard like this (with ableton), so that it starts playing a clip as long as you have your finger on a keyboard button pushed, and after relasing it stops it (midi or audio),.. and restarts from the beginning again when pushing again of course..!?!

i already defined some clips/samples in ableton via keyboard, it starts playing the whole clip untill i push the key on the keyboard again.. but not already after releasing my finger..

  • @djnomis

Go to clip view at the bottom of the screen, find launch settings and change "trigger" to "gate".

  • Damn DJ Jazzy wtf man, I watched this like 4 times and am going to watch over and over, this man is TRULY an inspiration for the next generation. Mock my words!

    -DJ Rukiss-

At least I know I am headed in the right direction.

  • Damn DJ Jazzy wtf man, I watched this like 4 times and am going to watch over and over, this man is TRULY an inspiration for the next generation. Mock my words!

  • Jazzy Jeff ft. Masta Ace Inc. - Top Ten List

  • I am Into making House and Trance Beats does Anyone recommend this Program for me Please Let me know

  • @Alex03000351 ; this or Logic 9 Pro/Express and nothing less.

  • JAZZYYYYY JEFF

  • The James Brown beat is awesome!!

  • Jazzy Jeff is still doing his thing!! Will Smith just went for the glam life.

I give Jeff more props than the less than fresh prince.

  • @Jaggabone 'cos we need legends

  • @Lastangels ; he's not dead so I don't associate him as a Legend [Otis redding, Ray Charles, etc] - but extremely great and talented he is.

  • i love how the james brown sampled beat at the end sounded like how he might have juggled 2 copies of the original record. this guys a legend, you get the sense that he just loves what he does, no hint of an ego at all.

  • hell yeah! lovin how real this shit is... im tired of the BS in the music industry so many fools fluffin it up haha this dude is the realness

  • If there is any justice left in this world, please don't lt either of those beats end up on the next WIll Smith album! I'd love to hear Rakim, Common, Redman, BoB or Guilty SImpson over those. Shame Guru is gone, those sound like they would have done his legacy proud.

  • does anyone know how you program the samples to each key on the midi controller then?, it looked cool. Did Jazzy open up one sampler or do you have to open up a sampler on the screen for each sample? Any help?,,peas.

  • i've tried many d.a.w.s and no lie hands down ableton live 8 suite IS THE SHIT!!!!

i've hade suite 8 for like 4 months and no lie that was the best upgrade i've ever made sampling is so easy, the devices kick ass.man i bought reason 5 along with record 1.5 and i hardly use it like i do live. due to the fact i'm so use to dragging and dropping my shit slapping clips and live sets 2gether on the fly

i don't know what they smoking at ableton but that shit must fire!!!!!

  • Djrasadon/Arrested Development, I'm more and more convinced this is for me! As I'm a very hands on production cat as well as a drummer so I think fast and would love my

Setup to be able to complament my style.

Ableton it is! I'll come back when i got it down! Thanx jazzy!

  • Yeah! He's using a keyboard that i got, in the end of the video. Akai MPK 49, ableton live pro. Watch tutorial videos.

  • The beat at the beginning is the best I've heard by far

  • all I can think of is the fresh prince lol

  • Jazz has got it right I am ABLETON to heart and will never go back to...

    peace

    couch

  • No matter how much I listen to him I always will think of him as Jazz

  • I FEEL GOOD!

  • They were like "Oohh" !

  • Luv Jazzy...!

  • @06GreenThumb He didn't make the video, the people who make ableton did. So unless he is on contract to keep up comments on this video and give advice to idiots i don' think he's going to be replying.

  • wassup Jazzy.... • This guy must have nothing els but music on his mind

  • i love you man.... you have never let me down

  • the beat jeff made at the end was nice!!!!!

  • Sportin the Cheif Rocker shirt. Old school fa sho.

  • imma broke bitch......his shit was crazy. jazzy one of the greatest, he = HIP HOP

  • @boatofcoins Follow your dreams man!

  • get a pc!

  • I laughed at the "OOOH!" part of the video.

I also want to explain to people that all software is almost limitless, it's the human mind of doing things that is limited.

As far as this guy's set up... All I would want would be a MIDI Keyboard with pitch-bend and some nobs for recording automation. Then I'd be set for life...maybe.

  • Just remember guys, all the gear in the world will not make you a good beat maker. Hone your craft night and day. The equipment is immaterial, you, the creative force are the most important part of music.

  • See the graff on the whiteboard in the background lol

  • The dude in the back is his body guard protecting him against phil

  • Nuff Respect. Great vid.

  • this is the video that inspired me to start usin Live
