Goggles/sunglasses also protect the cornea (clear part over colored part) and white of eye (sclera & conjuctiva) from snow blindness which is like a sunburn to front of eye. I also recommend helmet and wrist guards as your wrists can be damaged if you fall and put arms out (common reaction).

@nosredna1624 Your retinas widen to let more light in during the night. What she meant was that if too much light was let in causing your eyes to tighten, it could harm your retinas ability to widen, causing the muscles that control the widening/tightening to freeze up. (retinas are the colored part of your eyes)

Sorry for the excessive explanation, my parents are eye doctors, so I grew up hearing this sorta thing every day.

@Scudman045 no. just plain no. even goggles that fit small on a persons face offer roughly the same peripheral vision as sunglasses. and if it really is that big of a concer, she can get a bubble lens, one that is more spherical to increase your field of view. these are just poor fitting goggles, one of Dragon's cheaper pairs.
