  • Frank Welker owns.

  • I've never seen this before! thanks dude!

Huge gadget nerd I am :)

  • 0:01-0:05 Scary as heck! I don't remember if that scared me as a kid but I'll be surprised if it didn't as well as scare many other kids.

Also, I love that he says MAY return after these messages!

  • Yeah, I love the "MAY return" bit myself! :) But, uhh... why excactly do you find it scary?.. :P

  • Did anyone notice Claw says "Inspector Gadget MAY return after these messages." As if he still might kill him during the break. LOL. Also, it sounds like Freddie from "Scooby Doo" announcing the return from break segment.

  • @jayydee72 Yes. I notice that. Frank Welker used his Doctor Claw voice to do "Inspector Gadget MAY retrn after these messages" bumper and he used the Fred Jones voice to do "We now return to Inspector Gadget" one. I think the Fred Jones voice is Frank Welker's regular normal voice.

  • @jayydee72 It's most likely because his character is willing to do away with him during the commercial break.

  • throughout the 80's and 90's there were requirements that there be bumbers before and after commercial breaks to distinquish betwen the commercials and the actual programming. There first had to be a "We'll be back after these messages" bumber before the commercial break, and then a "Now back to the Show" bumber after the conclusion of the commercial break.

  • Frank Welker did two different voices for the bumpers. First one is his Dr. Claw and the second one's probably his normal everyday voice.

  • Heh. Cool! That does sound very likely, actually;) But do you know for sure that he did both of the voices? Have you heard anything about the making of these bumpers?

  • @Mesterius1 Yes, I'm sure. Frank Welker is a very talented voice actor. He did voices for many TV shows, movies and video games. I think that's his real voice in the second bumper. He does used his real voice sometimes, he used it for the voice of Fred Jones from Scooby-Doo, which I think that's his first ever role. Currently, he's voice of Garfield, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Nibbler of Futurama.

  • I Wish "THIS" Network would show this Original Bumpers of Inspector Gadget.

  • FRANK!!!!!!

  • ...Welker? :P

  • @Mesterius1 There u go!!!!

  • Oh yeah... Frank Welker, the one and only true Doctor Claw:)

  • @Mesterius1 ...amongst other things, Real Talk!

  • Never saw these in the UK, as someone else has already pointed out. Amusing with the one with Doctor Claw!

  • Never saw' em in my home country (Norway) either, since Inspector Gadget was shown without any commercial breaks there. Actually, the only time my Norwegian channel ever showed any version of the bumpers was during the pilot (similar bumpers, but with Gadget in his moustache). And absurdly enough, there were no commercials between the bumpers - just the bumpers themselves :P Seemed like they just forgot to edit them out of the video masters..

And yes, Dr. Claw rocks as a bumper announcer! ;)

  • I remember those, I was obsessed with this cartoon as a kid. Back then it was just channel 5 (long before evil Fox came along) in New York, around '83.

  • Inspector Gadget is now on This TV Weekday mornings

  • i wish dr. claw would announce all commercial bumpers. that would be sweet!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting these! I haven't seen them in 20+ years!

  • My pleasure! That's one of the wonders of youtube... I get to meet other people who are actually interested in these geeky details about great cartoon shows of the past:) And yep, I think they had both too. They probably used the bumper with the regular announcer in one commercial break ("Inspector Gadget will be back...") and then used the Dr Claw version for the next break ("Inspector Gadget MAY be back..."). Pretty inspired as long as they air them in the right chronology;)

  • I'm pretty sure these bumpers were used in season 1. Interestingly enough, though, the bumpers I once saw for the pilot were EXCACTLY the same, except for Gadget's moustache. And yeah, it's a mystery why they were not shown during advertising breaks everywhere... they're much more fun than just skipping to the commercials:)

Btw, I found another version of the first bumper in the youtube video ''WUTV Inspector Gadget Break 1 (1986)''. Will probably do an extended version of my video soon.
