I don't mean any harm to BB on this cause I really love Brownie BUT did he really win the Derby and Preakness? I feel that Eight Belles really and truly won the Kentucky Derby.
"The issue of steroids in horse racing saw increased public scrutiny this spring after Rick Dutrow Jr., the trainer of Big Brown, acknowledged using the anabolic steroid stanozolol on the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner."
I wish all trainers had half the heart that Larry has... I feel for him because his feeling for this wonderful filly was genuine...RIP beautiful girl.
I had the privilege of being at this memorial for this courageous steel gray filly. Very, very touching, right down to the Bell Choir playing Candle in the Wind, although it was kinda soft and you really had to strain to hear the bells. I'm sure Eight Belles heard them in Heaven. That's all that matters. Please go visit her when you come to Kentucky, and I'm sure you'll leave a piece of your heart in the Derby Museum garden.
I was wondering about that. How did that sound live? I could tell that they were doing bells but I couldn't quite figure out how many they did. Did they do 8 of them or all the way through the song?
Remember when Elton John changed theh lyrics to Good Bye Norma Jean for Princess Diana? I think that would have been cool for new lyrics for Eight Belles. Man I love her. I may make some up for her to that song.
I will visit Eight Belles' grave when I travel to Louisville at the end of September to pay my respects. Beautiful tribute at Churchill Downs for a lovely lady. Rest in Peace, Beauty in Motion. Take care Mr. Jones. My regards to you and your family.
They had a total of 22 bells. They were so soft, you could hardly hear them, unfortunately. If I didn't know by the program that they were playing Candle in the Wind, I wouldn't have recognized the song. They should probably have placed a few microphones on the table so we could hear them. Otherwise, it was an excellent ceremony.
I watched the video and got the same impression. I wondered if being there, you could tell more of a difference. So the video is pretty much accurate. Yeah they are soft. The Candle in the Wind I knew about before the service, I wouldn't have been able to tell without listening to it a bunch of times. She is such a special filly.
smartysgal. I am mariasmon with a N. He died last year. He was Wait A While's sire. That may have been a typo. :) You like Smarty Jones don't you. That horse needs a heavenly address too.

Put the whores of the mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, girlfriend, wife to go.
Engage the tail of them.
Racing is cowardice, as well as other events that abuse animals.
I hate humans.
Especially those idiots who abuse animals.
Death to all those idiots.
And the gay owner of the Eight Bells.

Eight Belles died to make NTR a better sport. I agree with Larry on that one and I will miss watching her charisma and that beautiful long stride.
