Gun laws are in no way archaic. People back then had a strong suspicion of the power of governent after being supressed by the British. Gun laws were made to protect people from an overbearing government. I would have even more of an incentive to own a gun if the police force and organized crime had a monopoly on guns. It's totally insane to have everyone packing a gun! Have you not noticed all the gun violence in this country EVERY single day??? It's usually a child taking dad's gun to shoot up their school, a stolen gun used for a murder, or a wife getting back at her cheating husband, etc. Almost never for "self protection"!!!

No, it's not usually a child shooting up his school. Those are the tragic things that are most often televised (overrepresented by media)and it happens from a lack of responsibility by the parents. Not everyone should have a gun but those that want one to feel safe should be able to get one if they so decide.
