just purchased my 2011 jeep jk 4 door last week!! im looking for some power gains in the low to mid range, im not interested in the top end power because i wont see my myself needing or using it very often. what do you recommend to improve my bottom to mid range power?
Stock 3.8 is gutless. We should have our dyno by next week, so ordering the AFE package and see if we come up with the same numbers. Have a feeling we are going to be pretty close. Jeep also has a Jet Stage 2 chip, the stage 2 is made for intake and exhaust, so hopefully see a little more power. Not sure about the fuel mileage, but 1000 mile trip made last month we averaged 19.2mpg with 3 people and luggage, so again maybe we will see a little better. Since Jeep will be able to breathe
@98sable You are quoting your cherokee's engine horsepower. The dyno in the video reads hp at the wheels. It is showing the results after roughy 20-30% of the power is lost due to the weight on the drivetrain with dana 44s, wheels and tires. I agree that the 3.8L is weak, but I've had both, my 01 wrangler 4.0L was also under powered. Chrysler announced that the 2012 Wranglers would be getting the 3.6L Pentastar engine 292hp and 260ft-lb, and are looking into the cummins 4B 4cyl diesel for USA.
@98sable Ya they took the 3.8 right out of the grand caravan and didn't change anything. It was a huge mistake for them to use it. In the 2 door its not bad if you don't have a lift, but the 4 door is slow and regearing doesn't help enough. The new 3.6 should be a great match for the wranglers, its already being used in the grand cherokee, compass, challenger and a few other cars. Mopar and some aftermarket companies already have a lot of parts for it including dealer installed turbo systems.
Can you tell me what the mileage on the Jeep was when it was base-lined? You're showing 30hp and 50tq less than other charts I have seen from Jeep enthusiasts. This means a loss of 70hp and 80tq from the crank to the wheels. The 3.8 has a break in period where the engine's power is reduced and the ECM is learning it's operating parameters, this is fairly common knowledge. typically for the first couple thousand miles.
Just ordered this because of this video, sure hope it is not a disappointment, should know in a couple of weeks after the parts are installed.

Start with the intake, then go to the Scorcher Tuner. These two items will put the biggest mid-range numbers on the board.

@mudslinger1984 i forgot it was to the wheels and not the crank. i heard the 3.8 is just a mini van engine.

Great video. Would you be able to make an identical video for the TJ? Mine's a 2004. Can you also include a short clip of the exhaust sound? Thanks!

check the aFe channel. We did develop a video package for the TJ. Thanks for your interest.
