And with a left-right coalition in power rolling back both the Tories more headbanging plans and the authoritarian right-wing legacy of Labour, it did indeed turn out very different. About time too! :)
I have always voted Lib Dem. I was attracted to their stance on a number of issues, felt they were a 'nice' alternative to the mainstream and had their hands more or less clean. A kind of hopeless party but an expression of idealism. Now I realise my folly- hopeless, yes, but incompetent, misleading and utterly pointless. My disappointment with them is only overshadowed by feeling of personal idiocy in ever supporting them. At least that is one mistake I will not ever make again.
"It isn't up to politicians to decide who wins" It clearly was up to the Lib Dems and other small parties as to who won the election. None of us voted for this coalition.
@TheJinkedful 11 million voted for the conservatives policies. 7 million for Lib Dem Policies. 0 for Conservative/ lib dem coalition policies. To call coalitions democracy is an absolute joke. It puts the choice of government in the hands of the politicians not the people. Every other party could have just as easily formed a coaliton with labour, and labour would of had the majority.
Mr. Clegg, with all due respect, you are a damnable and damned liar!
Once again Parliament has been brought into disrepute as it was with Tony Blair. British Parliament once earned the respect of the world, but now it is nothing less than a rat infested, worm ridden fleapit.
The British Parliament is a haven for liars frauds and cheats
I voted Lib Dem election after election. I am absolutely disgusted at how you have sold out your principles on education for a chance to be the Conservative lap dog. Never again. Never ever again. What are you doing differently? How are you influencing the Tories? Shameful. Where is your backbone?
If the Lib Dems had their own majority government, the would without doubt be the single best government ever conceived. But now that the Tories have broken their spine, the coalition Lib Dems have become snivelling, spinless Tories-wannabes
As much as it pains me to say so, the Lib Dems will never be in power again. They have ruined a golden opportunity by siding with the Tories. I, and many people I know, will never vote Lib Dem again
@0MrAnon2 Well said. had they sided with labour they could have got proportional rep in, and destroyed conservatism for good. Now all Clegg has done is destroyed his own party. If the coalition gets this through parliament, the Liberal Democratic party is dead.
I hope they are watching their popularity disappear very closely.
Thankyou for voting a party that turned Burnley College into a boarding school for hundeds of foreign muslim girls from pakistan to learn the eastern values and close most other schools, Most will stay and claim your tax money

I voted for our Lib Dem MP partly because I did not want the conservatives in power. A coalition with Conservatives - would be such a damning indication that the party I voted for is more interested in navigating shallow Politics than championing a deeper Philosophy of fairness for all.
It is important to start with fairness - reigning in spending. Do not start with a system that genuinely makes protecting the (finacial) interests of the wealthiest it's philosophical priority.
I voted Lib Dems to keep out the Conservative ass hole Cameron. If the Lib Dems do a deal with Dave then next time I will vote Labour. Lib Dems wake up, your pissing your voters off big time !

Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats Represent REAL CHANGE. Conservative doesn't mean change, look the word Conservative up in the dictionary. Nick Clegg for PM!
As much as I admire the Liberal Democrats, and agree with many of their policies, and would like to be able to vote for them, they espouse certain irreversible policies which would be tremendously damaging for the UK.
I will be doing everything I can to get people to WAKE UP and realise that the piece of paper they hold in their hand at the ballot box this week is possibly one of the most important pieces of paper they will ever hold in their hands.
@pimpUK1 Damn straight! If you vote Lib Dems then there is no point of having a Government in the UK, as all our laws will come from the European Union.
Don't be brainwashed there are more parties than the 3 main ones if you disagree with the other 2.
@spencera11 Coming from someone that can't spell a simple word like "coming" or "themselves", I couldn't give two shits what your opinion is." pimpuk1" was chosen due to it being a short name that is easy to read to such people like yourself that stuggle to grasp English.
@pimpUK1 its called txt typing, this youtube, it doesnt matter about spelling. u want grammer read a paper this is youtube media no one gives a shit. and why not niceguyuk?. calling ur self pimp must give a indication of ur personal disposition.
@pimpUK1 .....that was a poor joke. im sorry but u are showing ur self up right now. even if u are trying to employ sarcasum....its failing to impress. lets just call it quits..before some one gets hurt :P haha joking. but yh i think we should end this becuase its getting rediculess.
@dontrepeatyourself so u would buy a banger of old brown? or be swindled out ur cash by daft david? so what eles dont tell me ur a bnp supporter other wise u can fuck right off.
Was always going to vote lib dem - don't like this broadcast though. Too slick and showy. Maybe trying to reach out to floating voters but unfortunately ended up sounding like Mr Cameron
@niktastic95 yh but for some reason, some idiots are being sheep to david beliving that if people dont vote for him then they will get labour..hahaha ive like only hers a hand full of people wanting to vote labour and one wasnt even registered hahahahahha. so lets all vote lib dem on may the 6th :D
Vote for Clegg and get Dr. Vince Cable... Sounds good to me! Cable is a heavyweight with a Ph.D in economics. Darling got us into this mess, and Osborne's only experience in the field is paying his country club bar tab. I agree with Nick. Lib Dems all the way!!!
@MnemonicCarrier hahaha exactly the lib dems are the party were everyone who went in to poletics to make a difference ended up becuase the other parties were dirty....now lets all vote lib dem so we can have the people who were born to lead us.
@Remistro Which Liberal Democrats want completely open borders? You do realise that the Lib Dems want a Border Police Force, right? And as for 1 year olds, they're allowed to HAVE sex at 16 but not *watch* sex until two years later? That makes no sense!
good luck to the Liberal Dems this week is its funny the tories are trying to say that their leader is the next obama while the Liberal Dems are saying this is our leader and his name is Nick Clegg "not the british obama" this is who i am and this is who we are and they have been a lot more open on the budget cuts that ARE coming and as for people who say a vote for them is a wasted one a true wasted vote is one that has not been used the tories are for the rich tax exiles and labour are a joke
I want proportional representation so I switched my vote from the Tories. What scares me the most is that there are people out there who - knowing that the Tories are dead set against reform - would still vote for them. Are they antidemocratic or just ignorant? I don't know, but what I do know is that my grandad didn't fight in WW2 for nothing. People who want to silence millions of voters to give their party an unfair advantage should be considered traitors.
As somebody pointed out elsewhere, the change in support compared to what's been spent by each party is wildly out of proportion in favour of the Lib Dems. So you tell me - who do you trust to get the most value out of the country's finances? One that throws masses of money at everything or one that's learnt to be careful AND make right decisions?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nick Clegg is a slimeball. His plans do nothing to increase fairness (schools' premium gives more to the country posh schools than inner london schools), his plans for trident are ridiculous, and he wants us to join the euro. Oh, and he's just as posh as David Cameron (went to Private school, owns property in France and Spain). PS - Proportional Representation would destroy this country forever.
Those greedy corrupt people who have gained at the expense of others and ignored society will vote Labour.
Those who gained under the rich serving Conservatives at the expense of society and have the me myself and I attitude with continue to vote Tory but,
Those who want to see the greed culture, stop greedy fraudulent MPs & Lords, stop fraud bankers, stop inequality, regulate predatory capitalism, stop the rich dominating land resources supply lines law media & stop poverty....vote Lib Dems.
I'd like to think that someone actually cared about my vote. Just because I'm sitting in a presumed safe Tory seat doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it. So far I have been canvassed by no-one from any party or contacted. I'd like Nick Clegg to tell me why a vote for him in this constituency isn't a wasted vote. My mother, a lifelong Tory, won twice in a solid Labour ward because she pounded the streets engaging with people, she'd be horrified to think I hadn't even been canvassed.
@rachelgh, unfortunately the Lib Dems have much less funding than Labour or the Conservatives. They have to choose to spend their money where it will most count towards the power to change things for the better, so they're probably focusing it more in areas where they have a better chance. In my area I haven't been canvassed by anyone either, but I choose out of principle to vote for who I truly believe in, and that's the Lib Dems. Personally, I think that's what democracy should be about.
@geekymarianne I understand the resources issue completely but there was a swing to the Lib Dems here in the last General Election so even if there is a thwacking Tory majority if you don't engage with the electorate on the ground not much is going to happen. An invisible candidate doesn't get anyone's votes.
@rachelgh, you make a good point. Maybe it's worth emailing your local Lib Dem candidate to make that comment (and ask him/her directly your question of why a Lib Dem vote in your constituency isn't a wasted vote)? Googling for the name of a Lib Dem candidate usually returns their page on the Lib Dem site, which should have their email address.
@rachelgh, good luck :) I sent a question to all my potential MPs a few weeks ago, and the Labour and Lib Dem candidates both took a few weeks (and a second email) to answer my question, especially right now they're likely to be pretty busy... the Conservative candidate didn't even bother with a response. Too busy sending out dodgy election leaflets (like the one that arrived here a few days ago) I suppose.
If the Lib Dems have already started to marginalise opinion by not allowing anti-Clegg comments to be posted - what will this socialist party do if they get in!!
The bubble has burst Nick Clegg. You are arrogant, patronising and annoying.
@barrychuckle1411 Correct, but it does cost thousands and that's all the Dems have to use rather than the millions the other 2 parties have. Their donations pretty much just come from the public (hence why they're so small), but that's why I trust them more, they don't have a vested interests or paymasters to serve.
I'm to young to vote, but my undecided father (he's english but didn't live in UK so didn't think he could make the right decision He had a postal vote) gave his vote to me and I chose LIB DEMS
I won't be able to afford tuition fees if they go up, All i've done is work hard, and i don't want to see a recession caused by Gordon Brown combined with Tory tuition fees mean that I can't reach what I'm capable of.... my student loan would be nearing the 40 grand mark.. and that's just ridiculous.
Very, very nice. Well done Nick! However - I could probably have spoken along with what you said. Stop repeating yourself, man! His speech-writer needs to think of new catchphrases.... but of course, despite that, this is excellent.
I agree with Nick... And don't let anyone scare you into thinking change is bad, Tories and their balanced parliament scaremongering just shows how desperate they are.
But let's not get too disappointed if it doesn't happen. Perhaps the best we can hope for is to be in a position to demand electoral reform this time - something else the tired and scared parties will try to block to serve themselves!
This sounds like a National Insurance advert except for politics.

Cameron is a Tory, Brown was a Tory, Thatcher was a Tory, Clegg was never a Tory. That's good enough for me. That or the Monster Raving Loony Party.

Was always going to vote lib dem - don't like this broadcast though. Too slick and showy. Maybe trying to reach out to floating voters but unfortunately ended up sounding like Mr Cameron
niktastic95 1 year ago 2
@niktastic95 yh but for some reason, some idiots are being sheep to david beliving that if people dont vote for him then they will get labour..hahaha ive like only hers a hand full of people wanting to vote labour and one wasnt even registered hahahahahha. so lets all vote lib dem on may the 6th :D
spencera11 1 year ago
Vote for Clegg and get Dr. Vince Cable... Sounds good to me! Cable is a heavyweight with a Ph.D in economics. Darling got us into this mess, and Osborne's only experience in the field is paying his country club bar tab. I agree with Nick. Lib Dems all the way!!!
MnemonicCarrier 1 year ago 4
@MnemonicCarrier hahaha exactly the lib dems are the party were everyone who went in to poletics to make a difference ended up becuase the other parties were dirty....now lets all vote lib dem so we can have the people who were born to lead us.
spencera11 1 year ago
@Remistro Which Liberal Democrats want completely open borders? You do realise that the Lib Dems want a Border Police Force, right? And as for 1 year olds, they're allowed to HAVE sex at 16 but not *watch* sex until two years later? That makes no sense!
Mazten 1 year ago
At least Nick Clegg is more honest than Cameron about what would happen if elected Labour and Tories are probably far worse but they cover up.
SuperAwesomeXtreme 1 year ago 2
i partially agree with nick.
MrRAndom5 1 year ago
good luck to the Liberal Dems this week is its funny the tories are trying to say that their leader is the next obama while the Liberal Dems are saying this is our leader and his name is Nick Clegg "not the british obama" this is who i am and this is who we are and they have been a lot more open on the budget cuts that ARE coming and as for people who say a vote for them is a wasted one a true wasted vote is one that has not been used the tories are for the rich tax exiles and labour are a joke
ducksoup2007 1 year ago
I want proportional representation so I switched my vote from the Tories. What scares me the most is that there are people out there who - knowing that the Tories are dead set against reform - would still vote for them. Are they antidemocratic or just ignorant? I don't know, but what I do know is that my grandad didn't fight in WW2 for nothing. People who want to silence millions of voters to give their party an unfair advantage should be considered traitors.

HAYDN whoop! if i could...i'd vote for this party purely because of this ad (Y)

I agree with Nick. I want my vote to count! Vote democracy. Vote Libdem
aceofspades25 1 year ago 3
As somebody pointed out elsewhere, the change in support compared to what's been spent by each party is wildly out of proportion in favour of the Lib Dems. So you tell me - who do you trust to get the most value out of the country's finances? One that throws masses of money at everything or one that's learnt to be careful AND make right decisions?
Vote yellow - put the Great back into Britain.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Nick Clegg is a slimeball.

Vote LibDem for a better United Kingdom

Those greedy corrupt people who have gained at the expense of others and ignored society will vote Labour.
Those who gained under the rich serving Conservatives at the expense of society and have the me myself and I attitude with continue to vote Tory but,
Those who want to see the greed culture, stop greedy fraudulent MPs & Lords, stop fraud bankers, stop inequality, regulate predatory capitalism, stop the rich dominating land resources supply lines law media & stop poverty....vote Lib Dems.
Topdoginuk 1 year ago 3
I'd like to think that someone actually cared about my vote. Just because I'm sitting in a presumed safe Tory seat doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it. So far I have been canvassed by no-one from any party or contacted. I'd like Nick Clegg to tell me why a vote for him in this constituency isn't a wasted vote. My mother, a lifelong Tory, won twice in a solid Labour ward because she pounded the streets engaging with people, she'd be horrified to think I hadn't even been canvassed.
rachelgh 1 year ago
@rachelgh, unfortunately the Lib Dems have much less funding than Labour or the Conservatives. They have to choose to spend their money where it will most count towards the power to change things for the better, so they're probably focusing it more in areas where they have a better chance. In my area I haven't been canvassed by anyone either, but I choose out of principle to vote for who I truly believe in, and that's the Lib Dems. Personally, I think that's what democracy should be about.
geekymarianne 1 year ago
@geekymarianne I understand the resources issue completely but there was a swing to the Lib Dems here in the last General Election so even if there is a thwacking Tory majority if you don't engage with the electorate on the ground not much is going to happen. An invisible candidate doesn't get anyone's votes.
rachelgh 1 year ago
@rachelgh, you make a good point. Maybe it's worth emailing your local Lib Dem candidate to make that comment (and ask him/her directly your question of why a Lib Dem vote in your constituency isn't a wasted vote)? Googling for the name of a Lib Dem candidate usually returns their page on the Lib Dem site, which should have their email address.
geekymarianne 1 year ago
@geekymarianne Hmmm....shall we see if I get a response?
rachelgh 1 year ago
@rachelgh, good luck :) I sent a question to all my potential MPs a few weeks ago, and the Labour and Lib Dem candidates both took a few weeks (and a second email) to answer my question, especially right now they're likely to be pretty busy... the Conservative candidate didn't even bother with a response. Too busy sending out dodgy election leaflets (like the one that arrived here a few days ago) I suppose.
geekymarianne 1 year ago 2
If the Lib Dems have already started to marginalise opinion by not allowing anti-Clegg comments to be posted - what will this socialist party do if they get in!!
The bubble has burst Nick Clegg. You are arrogant, patronising and annoying.

@MRKisThatKid i dissagree. video editing skills is a key quality required in a person to lead a country.

It's a good job I'm not basing my vote on the quality of their video- this ones terrible! But I'm still voting lib dems.
barrychuckle1411 1 year ago
@barrychuckle1411 Maybe that's because they don't have millions of pounds from Ashcroft or the unions to spend on their campaign.
beigemaster86 1 year ago
@beigemaster86 it doesnt cost millions to mae a good video.
barrychuckle1411 1 year ago
@barrychuckle1411 Correct, but it does cost thousands and that's all the Dems have to use rather than the millions the other 2 parties have. Their donations pretty much just come from the public (hence why they're so small), but that's why I trust them more, they don't have a vested interests or paymasters to serve.

well played nick..... we can change this country into a fair well run united kingdom
