yes, honey you should go there again, Joel and his ministry (God's Crew) ROCKS at the Compact Center!!! No underwear is thrown on stage - but maybe crutches? People are set free and delivered , rescued by the Love of God in the form of Jesus our Savior!!! You would absolutely love it!!! (you do get a misery back guarantee)
To "Melsbasketcase"...I'm glad you have so many memories about the "Compact Center" and experiences there. Please try to attend a service or two with Joel, Victoria, and the Lakewood members...they still play awesome music that you can enjoy every Sunday morning for FREE!!! Best wishes to you!! :o)
Regarding the unkind replies to this video...I was always thought, "If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." especially, if it is cruel and unkind...shame on those who wasted their time writing such hurtful responses to this. P.S. don't waste any further time sending me a nasty response...it will be ignored.
What are you even trying to make a point about the building has been several things in the past and it is now house of God and one should be very careful of what they say against such a place as holy as this.
What exactly is your point??? Don't you have anything else to do??? YOU NEED A PSYCOLOGIST!!!! PLEASE LOOK FOR ONE BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING TERRIBLE...........!!!!!!! PSYCO!!!!!!!!!!! OMG
hi mel is benny hinn still preaching over there, one sunday i was flicking brothers sky channel in england, it really made me smile, boo and people faint lol :)
I never saw a rock concert there, but I did see the Ringling Brothers circus there..and was already at the age where I was appalled by the treatment of the animals...Also my mom was a portrait artist at Astroworld in the early 80's..so we'd get free passes..I wonder which Chinese resturaunt is now the strip club...I remember one called Cafe House that was in the Med center and it seemed like it was previously an old theater..thought it was torn down though,,also remember Kiddie Wonderland
By the way, not sure if you heard but right after they shut down Astroworld in Houston, they opened Schlitterbahn in Galveston. It's HUGE. It's more expensive than Astroworld was...trust me it doesn't come close to how much fun Astroworld was but It did soften the blow of Astroworld shutting down. They also opened a skate park where Menard Park used to be on 27th and Seawall. There are videos of the skate park here on youtube. You can still find us surfing on 39th and Seawall on a warm day...
You're correct about Astroworld.. it's gone, not a trace left. We had season passes every year since the early 90's. My kids (and myself) miss it! WaterWorld is gone too :( We heard they were selling the land for a boat load of money but there is still nothing there, just a big hole where our summer fun used to be. They stopped the fireworks some time back but "Fright Night" was a blast, it was the last time we went before it closed. Thankfully we still have the beach!
@Bemuse I found several articles going back as far as 2007. Do you know if they ever broke ground? Looks like fun, at over $500 million to build, it better be! I bet those tickets are going to be steep! I almost crapped myself when we got a Coke out of the machine the last time we were at Astroworld. $3.50 a can!! Needless to say, we shared, lol.
I'm not sure if ground has been broken or not. I haven't read anything saying it wasn't going to happen, though. It sure needs to happen. I hope that Coke was a 16 ounce bottle. :)
