One of my favorite groups ever.....Yes! The movie and soundtrack "Car Wash" OMG! I loved it. I can still see certain scenes and hear the song that was played. The twist and turns artist go through, Woww! Awesome documentary and awesome songs left for us to enjoy forever.

I am not sure why the years after gwen left were not mentioned! Rose Royce went on to release 6 studio albums, 5 with Ricci benson from 1980 thru 1987 and one with Lisa Taylor in 1989. Though these albums did not turn out to be as successful as their early albums, but they did produce many minor hits. All I can say is that apparently, the public associated Rose Royce with Gwen so much that the actual band faded in comparison.

i'm really missing the last years, i.e. after 1980 which featured Ricci Benson. Together they released 4 albums which never got properly promoted imo

The label gets 40% of the rest of it, mostly because of their control of distribution. If a band/group is LUCKY, they'll see 5-7 points on the rest of the sales. If you have a band that large, you might crack 250K on a platinum album. You make most of your money on shows. But there's no way I'm going into the industry as an artist unless I control my masters, my publishing, getting at least 25% royalties and at least 75% take on shows. Amazing people still going in not understanding this.

People still going into the industry not understanding how it works. Find out what points, royalties, publishing, distribution and how splits work. Bands and groups are never going to last long, because egos always supersede the interests of the group; particularly when you have the dynamics of the dissemination of the money.

50% always goes to producers off the top. If someone in a band/group produces, they'll get more, which causes resentment (see Wu-Tang/RZA and all other rap groups).

Personally, I agree with Kenny Copeland (32:17). I honestly believe that Gwen's manager called & demanded a huge percentage..it always happens...it's going to continue to happen, and that is what breaks up groups...

There is no more REAL music...meaning BANDS....only AutoTone & no talent.

@shydmples You're right. Bands or Groups just don't come around anymore unless they have already been one of the lucky to survive 2 decades like Dave Mathews Band, Sade, or U2. or if it is country. It's much easier to be solo to avoid this kind of potential heartbreak.

Interesting. I was surprised to see TVOne do an episode on RR. You don't hear them on radio much these days. Amazing story. Everybody has one, no matter how famous they were. I didn't realize Gwen moved to London but I can hear her accent changing back and forth.

On another note, it's sad but typical of the times that they went from one ruthless manager to another. Everyone knows Jerry Heller was as crooked a manager as they come.
