I will agree this video is somewhat biased in that he didn't tell the full story and how the situation escalated. This isn't necessarily about black vs. white. What this is how racial tension, and repressed racism comes to the fore when people meet hate with more hate.

I will agree this video is somewhat biased in that he didn't tell the full story and how the situation escalated. This isn't necessarily about black vs. white. What this is how racial tension, and repressed racism comes to the fore when people meet hate with more hate.
Some of these comments are disgusting, and mortifying to me. You would think in 2011 we could work this out instead of letting hate and racism cloud reason...

Only Bell, who was a few weeks from being a legal adult and who had broken probation for nearly killing his girlfriend 4 times was tried as an asult when he wasn't.

@AugustMan24 Also, it wasn't really a "social function", and it is not as the Jena 6 supporters portrayed it. He demanded to go to his graduation ring ceremony because he wanted to sho his strength. He went on stage first, his ears started bleeding, he got dizzy, they helped him off the stage and sent him right home. His ears continued to bleed for days and it is medically documented. He complined of migraines and dizziness for months as well.

@AugustMan24 How can they have blakc jurors of all the ones summoned refused to show up? they should have arrested them, because that is illegal, but they did not. Besides, we now KNOW that Bell had no case. he's admitted it. His lawyer has talked about it. Bell had ZERO defense because HE DID IT in plain view of several people. His lawyer had worked out a plea bargain very similar to the one he eventually accepted, but Bell pulled a swerve on his lawyer by pleading NOT GUILTY.

@AugustMan24 Maybe so, I don't know the laws & procedures on that, but he pleaded guilty in the retrial anyway, after bringing in civil rights attorneys & getting a new jury pool. I think what it boiled down to on the part of Bell's 1st lawyer, is that Bell was clearly guilty & he felt that his job was to minimize the sentence (which he did - he had a deal that would have gotten him about the same jail time as he ended up with, but with more probation & it would have been an adult conviction)

@AugustMan24 There was a LOT more to it behind the scenes according to Bell's 1st lawyer. he said that once FoJ and NAACP & others got involved they smelled the money so they were feeding Bell a bunch of crap. He said they got Bell to double cross him at the trial to make it look like Bell had incompetent defenese. Bell admitted his guilt to him and agreed to go along with a plea deal for an assault conviction, but then pleaded not guilty at the stand and left his lawyer with nothing.

The race baiting was the lies Friends of Justice cooked up (& later admitted). They made up a story of honor students with clean recrods who were juveniles being tried as adults because they retaliated against rednecks posting nooses on a tree reserved for white kids.
The tree had NEVER been reserved for whites, NONE of the Jena 6 statements mentioned nooses from months earlier, they were NOT honor students, they DID have records, most WERE adults, they attacked the guy with the gun, etc.

@AugustMan24 One kid did ask about it. At a school assembly, he spoke up and asked if black kids were allwed to sit under that tree. The response, according to ALL witneses, was "of course, you can sit wherever you want to". But some idiot red neck kids went & put lassos to look like nooses in the tree that night. When the nooses were found, the first bus load of kids that arrived were playing on them, so the school took them down. The kids were busted & punished by the school pretty severely

@AugustMan24 That was in August. the jena 6 assault was in December. It was apparently retaliation for a fight at the Fair Barn that Friday. Bailey & a couple of others tried to crash a private party. A white man punched Bailey in the face & Baileys friends got into it with the white guy's friends. The cops came, sent the party crashers home. The only one charged was the white guy who started it by punching Bailey. He was convicted of simple battery.

When I say "only Mychal Bell" claimed Barker used racial slurs that day, I mean that was in his initial statement, but he claimed tht he tried to help Barker who was being brutally beaten (most of the Jena 6 claimed to have seen a brutal assault on Barker while he was out cold by "black boys" but none could identify any of their classmates - several others did identfy them, hence the charges). Then Bell claimed he wasn't there. Then he claimed he did it, but it was because Barker is a racist.

Most others claimed Barker was attacked for being friends with people at that Fair Barn fight & because he had talked shit to Bailey about it & he had bowed up to Bailey when Bailey & a crew of several friends had cornered & threatened to gang assault a couple of Barker's friends earlier that day. Bailey's crew didn't bring racism or nooses into the argument until they got with FoJ, Flaherty & the NAACP. Racial accusations all popped up thru the media, NONE of that had been claimed in court.

No way. i read it. It says the sam as they do and the 3rd party witness said. they saw him, yelled at him, chased him to his truck, Bailey jumped on him, the other two joined in, they hit him a few times, took his gun and ran. it's pretty clear what happened from those reports.

They evenadmitted it in their statements. i read them. There were witnesses too, taht called the cops. the dude was getting gas and they chased him to his truck where he grabbed his gun. Then they jumped him, beat him, took his gun and ran like cowards.

And the 3 at the gas station all admitted to chasing that guy too. Not sure where you saw any evidence otherwise, becasue there is none.

Only Mychal Bell claimed that. they claim they didn't touch him at first, but that he had taunted Bailey for being beat up in a fight at the Fair Barn a few night earlier (the same reason Bailey attacked the guy at the gas station a day or two before).
The idea that they beat him up for racism was introduced by friedns of justice and Bailey's family a couple of months later. They knew race baiting would garner sympathy.

@AugustMan24 Maybe the lawyer should have asked for another venue, but keep in mind, Bell ahd told him he was guilty and agreed to a plea deal. He had no idea taht Bell was going to plead NOT GUILTy and he wasn't ready to mount a defense, because there was none.
Even after big civil rights attourneys and the sympathy of the nation was behind them, Bell pleaded guilty before going to trial because they had no case whatsoever. The only thing they could do was try to get a lesser penalty.

true, but again, Bell was GUILTY. He has admitted it. We can look forr loopholes to get him off of however many dozens of crimes he's gotten away with for being a star athlete, but it dosn't cahnge the fact taht the guy is guilty and is STILL getting arrested for violence and STILL getting slaps on the wrist for it. we OWE it to him to make him take responsibility for once in his life.

Which beings up another big lie in this: NONE of them went to trial for Attempted Murder (those charges were lowered before it became a national story & before any made their pleas). NO ONE got a sentence of more than 18 months (with half in jail, half on house arrest despite a LONG violent criminal record & several probation violations - he was even arrested WHILE on house arrest in the town of Olla).
Also, ONLY Bell was in jail during the rally & it was because of the proabtion violations.

They said that he laughed at Bailey for starting crap at the Fair Barn then getting beat up. They supposedly had a "hit list" of all the people at that party & were going to beat them 1 by 1. They had already threatened a couple of Barker's friends that day. They were trying to goad someone into touching Bailey or Shaw so they could attack. Barker mouthed off to them, so on the way to class, they jumped him. But only Bell said he heard a racial slur & he changed his story several times.
