Actually, much of her style can be traced back to Dale Bozzio of the new wave rock band Missing Persons. Dale was also an influence on Madonna's stage dress. In the '70s there were many disco singers who had very outrageous theatrical elements in their performances. Lady Gaga isn't doing anything groundbreaking, but what she is doing is bringing back glamour and creativity to pop, not to mention live singing. :D
