I love to hear Arundhati Roy. At the end of her talk, she spoke about the 'tidiness' of suicide! Mankind is becoming infertile from radioactive fallout since 1945. The Fukushima meltdowns will accelerate sterility to depopulate the world in any case. Many scientists, professors etc. had to become whistleblowers to say it out loud. War has become antiquated, The issue is genetic integrity. There is no place to hide.

I understand that this is sometimes too hard too take but having, as a global people and those who govern us alike, neglected our moral to the core, right wing and left wing alike for different reasons surely altogether but with the same outcome however, whatever, the blow hits us hard in the face because the outcome is the same and while we are talking and neglecting our morals even more, bit by bit (bit is a sad and even gross in this context).

The much vilified Maoist would probably not be needed if it weren't for big corporations, backed by the government of India, throwing people out of their lands - all because of their greed for raw materials. This is very much like Colombia, where indigenous people are being thrown out of their homes, all so that corporations can get access to their resource rich land.

I respect her free speech, but this is naive, and always supports the underdogs and always about rebellion against the oppressing powerful. On the contrary she never exercises the free speech to the underdogs because she is blind to their tyranny and they are not motivated by justice, sometimes even hate. So I really appreciate she gets the idea out but supporting and inciting violent means is just wrong. Arundhati has done her one sided research very well but fails to empathize fairly to all.

If those 700,000 troops leave Kashmir then most of the "INDIAN Kashmiri" leaders would end up like LORD MOUNTBATTEN.

These troops are protecting Indian Sovereignty. If some people in your nation start a separatist movement on the basis of religion whats your government going to do? Invite Arundhati Roy?

@aparab82 Actually that did happen. They were called the IRA - and it was a similar movement in that the poor and the oppressed and the displaced joined it in order to release their frustrations. Our government (well, the British govt) responded using violence and it got us nowhere. Our island is in an even bigger mess than it was in the 70s. Govt sponsored violence is NEVER the right response.

The fault of Arundhati Roy is that she NEVER condemns the Violence Committed by the Poor and Oppressed. Instead she Dignifies it.

What she does, as far as I can see, is document the struggles of the poor, the problems in india and worldwide and attempt to understand and to share her understanding. How exactly is that a "bad" thing?

I am not happy to see people dying. But I don't like people who talk about humanity and then write biased views.

1. She Always talks about Indian takeover of Kashmir but she NEVER talks about CHINESE takeover of TIBET Or RUSSIAN takeover of CHECHNYA.

2. She NEVER talks about the killings of Kashmiri HINDUs who were Brutally killed by So called Kashmiri Freedom Fighters.

3. The poor Naxalites from Indian Forrests are responsible for over 6000 murders and many rape cases.

She doesn't just talk about Indian issues. She also talks about Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Al Queda, Hamas... Clearly these issues are not at all related to India. You can see it in this video. She only talks about american invasion of Afghanistan but NOT about Russian invasion of Afghanistan. If she can talk about these issues even though they are not related to India, then why can't she talk or write a word about Tibet or Chechnya?

I have not seen Arundhati Roy talking or writing about that. Why doesn't she write about enormous number of Chinese troops who have occupied Xinjiang? If she calls India a "FAKE DEMOCRACY" because 700,000 troops have occupied Kashmir then why doesn't she call China a FAKE COMMUNIST?

@aparab82 That sounds terrible - but unfortunately one person CANNOT advocate on behalf of every oppressed people, it is impossible. Roy is doing a good job, I believe - why not start advocating on behalf of the people of Xinjiang???

Of course China is "fake communist", I agree with you. It always has been - nobody who truly understood communism would believe that a dictatorship could be communism. As I said, nobody can cover the breadth of the oppression and violence in the world.

I am not forcing you to agree with my views. I believe that you have every right to present your views. But that is not the issue here. the issue is that Arundhati Roy presents "Selective Facts". More than 300,000 Kashmiri Hindus were forced to leave their homes in Kashmir. They have been living in Refugee Camps in Their OWN COUNTRY. The ones who didn't leave most of them were Brutally Killed.

Now these people cannot go back to their homes because some Islamic Fanatics who started the separatist movement wouldn't let them come back. Kashmir has been an integral part of India, historically and Culturally. Search "Kashmiri Pandits" on Wikipedia. Still she says that Kashmir was NEVER an integral part of India. If India was a Fake Democracy, she would probably have been thrown in jail for saying that.

I can't state on behalf of another person why they choose to say one thing and not another - perhaps it has something to do with the fact that she seems some acts as being more important and part of the cause as opposed to the effect. Perhaps it has something to do with her political sympathies. The Americans have invaded countless countries on many continents in the last 50 yrs. The Russians are not as prolific.

@aparab82 2. I'm not sure if she never talks about them. I can't recall any particular incidences but I am not her biographer - I just like a lot of her work. However, I am pretty sure that if there were 700000 troops in any area of 10milliion people, there would be plenty of retaliatory violence. When a government instigates an occupation of that size in any region, inevitably there is violent retaliation - their home is being occupied by troops!
