The Stuka, and the Japanese version, the "Val" were remarkably accurate. Too bad they were so slow and hard to maneuver. They made easy targets for the many allied fighters that prowled European skies. The Stuka was a remarkable plane for it's time and was used with great effect in the Spanish Civil War. I had a couple of old Spanish uncles who loved Franco and had seen the Stuka in action against the hated communists. What a piece of history! Thanks for posting this.

Dass eine Besatzung auf offenem Feld landet und von einer anderen herausgeholt wird, war die absolute Ausnahme - in diesem Film kommt so etwas aber zweimal vor. Viel wahrscheinlicher war es aber, von einem schnelleren Jagdflieger abgeschossen zu werden. Gerade in der Steigephase nach dem Angriff waren die Maschinen extrem langs
The best way to enjoy these planes today is in mdel form. Take a look at 1:18 scale; google "1:18 scale stuka" and see what you get. 1:18 scale is big, as a Stuka has a 27" wingspan in this size. These models are prepainted and largely pre-assembled, they just need quick snap together which takes but minutes. They come with pilot figures. No swastikas on the tail, but the decals for that can be bought seperately. I don't have the time and patience to build and paint kits! Maker is 21st Century.

Re your desire to experience Stuka flying, there's good news and bad news. The good news is that over the years, a number of replicas of the Ju-87 have been built ranging from 7/10 size to full size. (Forget about flying in an original!) You might want to track down the current owners and pursuade (pay) them to take you up. You will have to sit in the rear of course; to fly and deep dive with one would take piloting skills you probably don't have. The G forces are intense!
The Ju-87 B2 had an automatic system for which once the bomb was released the plane would autmatically pull out of the dive. the designers of the B2 thought it would be impossible for any human to pull it out of a dive, so they automated the B2's pull out.
also unfortunately the B2 was the only version with a siren
The bad news is that to commission the building of a real replica would take money the average person doesn't have. There is a small company in Germany that builds authentic full sized replicas of the FW-190 fighter, and sells them for 1.5 million. A full Stuka replica would probably cost even more.
Too bad, it would be great fun to do today. One former Stuka pilot confessed that the physical thrill and adrenaline rush was beyond anything you could imagine!

Stukas actually had air sirens on them. When they pitch down in a dive, they alerted the area being attacked. The purpose was probably for fear, and it sounded great in propaganda, but at least it gave people a warning.
Stuka's dive bombed Polish civilians as they fled from the fighting on orders from der Furher. Don't kid yourself.

The Stuka was an excellent weapon to attack field fortifications, artillery batteries, ships and bunkers. It was also very effective against tanks.
