This is the postcolonial argument gone perverse. This guy is covering up state violence against civilians by taking a few mishaps in reporting and surrounding these with an aura of western mischief. I for one am not blinded by the smokescreen. This government claimed zero casualty and then promptly placed a quarter of a million civilians behind barbed wire in order to catch a few thousand Tigers--who, by the way, were among the first to leave the camps by bribing the army. And still you all can
@bellepepper02 You make an excellent point. Our system somehow failed dramatically. I don't believe it is a state cover up but I do think thing could have been dealt with more efficiently. One thing I firmly believe is that we as Sri Lankans do not target and discriminate against Tamils. I know I don't. At the time this hearing was held a war crimes investigation would only have made things worse. We needed to settle matters internally first.
that said, I also believe that we are accountable for our own actions. Like any sovereign nation we too should investigate to see if crimes were committed. And these investigations should be transparent. Before you call me unpatriotic think twice. Justice is justice. If crimes were committed then action has to be taken. I am not saying crimes were committed for sure.). Now saying there were zero casualties is mad. This was a war not a chuck norris movie.
Superb. Well said Prof Wijesingha. Put the self-righteous hypocrits in the right place. It was interesting to watch the woman from suede next to you wrigglng. he body language speaks better than words that your words were homing in to the right places. I would have lved to watch the UK rep and BBC reporter if he or it was there in the gallery.
