You might also want to look up a map of the North Anatolian fault, with regard to the Van quake. - And you might want to look at recent reports of activity at the Yellowstone volcano. Like the man said, we knew it was coming.

Whenever energy is released along the tectonic plates, it stands to reason that pressure is built in another area. Chili 1960: 9.5 earthquake followed by Alaska 1964: 9.3, Northridge 1994: 6.7 followed by Kobe 1995: 6.9. I always wondered if seismologists have been studying the proximity and relative magnitude of seemingly related events taking into account the variables - could lead to a method of rough prediction and maybe save lives.
