It was a war that gave you the freedom to protest these wars. It was a war, that gave us this great nation. It was a war, that kept this nation safe. I am for avoiding war if you can, but wars are still neccesary, as a last option. I rather start a war to keep my countries freedom, than to peacefully give them away. Which means you can't protest a war, since your freedom is now gone. Logic, something the hippies lacked.

@SonOfMrGreengenes It is an option that should be used as a last resort. Its terrible, but sometimes neccsary. A war is what gave you the freedom to even speak of your opinon without punishment. In Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia, they take you away and kill you for those comments. Again war is a necessary evil from time to time.

We are born with all freedoms including freedom to speak. It is not granted to us by the authority of a government entity. Remember there is no "they" out there. The truth is that that it is only "us" for we are in this together. Unfortunately, for future generations, it will get far worse before it gets better.

@SonOfMrGreengenes I think I see what your saying. The U.S. is some what of a police force now. There are some cases where I think we should of stayed out of it. (The Lebanon War in the 50s is one of those moments.) I know we are born with them, but you must be willing to fight to protect them, our government is supposed to help protect those rights, some times wars do that. look at World War 2.

Protests didn't finally start until all the worst had already been done.

I did not want to got to Viet Nam and leave my family and die in a far off land. I was 19 and afraid and remember taking off for Nam from Travis AFB Calif and the lump in my stomach that this may be the last time I see America again. Arnold Swartznegger was probably just land in the US and starting his movie career and people were laughing and having fun back home. I went because it was the law and no other reason. Yes, and i am so happy that i did and did not cut and run.

@RonCheneler I don't really care about this politicaly correct nonsense. To the soldiers, a war is when to countries want to resolve their conflicts with violence. So yeah it was a war. (doesn't matter what congress wants to call it). I am not some war junkie, I think war should be avoided when possible. But wars are necessary from time to time. In fact, it was the war of independence that helped secure your freedoms, including the freedom to publicly criticize your own governments action. Logic

I feel so out of place knowing that my generation, ( Generation Y: 1994+) are so liberal and think the war was a loss because of our troops.
