Very impressive. I have a 10 months old-perhaps GSD mixed with Rotty-intelligent, but he has own will and sometimes he listens sometimes he does his own way. Is it too late to train him? Thanks
I'm very impressed with your training skills, seeing that you're not a professional trainer. Have you potty trained him? Can u pls recommend any good intrnt sites for GSD training insight?
@Tarvan2011: I learned mostly from books. Trained myself before getting the puppy :)) I used the internet to research other issues I had with him (health related) more than training.
But you can find a lot of useful information on GSD forums like German Shepherd World.
@DebbieDavidson06: Thank you. Well it was just to discipline him. I am extremely busy. I never intended to go into competing. I just wanted us to happily live together and enjoy our time together :)
Thanks! I started training Safir at 8 weeks old, the day I got him =). But of course not at the intensity you would train an older dog. Start with a few short (couple of minutes) sessions a day. The idea is to stop the session before he loses interest. Good Luck!
Thanks for the good tips below...but we are not competing. Never had... never will. This is all for fun and to keep us sharp and disciplined. The "drop it" command I taught him for play time and for real life situation (if he grabs a poisonos Bufu toad in his mouth for example...or something else he shouldn't). All of this is to make his/our life easier and more fun :). Thanks again.
wow you taught yourself from books and the internet to train and he turned out that great?!? Well you did a great job, you should be very proud! And he is a very Beautiful GSD
Thank you, you're too nice. Safir is my first dog, so I had to learn how to train him. But 7 books later, lots of internet research and then there's the learning from my mistakes...he turned out all right =).
Damn that's a beautiful name...Never thought about that before but the story you just gave me about Xafir is really touching. I can't believe they didn't take care of him better. You would think they would since you're paying top dollar for a great dog like he was. My heart goes out to him and hope their is a doggy heaven. I was going to order mine too but luckily her parents were already imported from Germany a few years before. Heidelberg is her bloodline maybe you've heard of it.
I appreciate the quick response from you I like knowing that I can write something and have an immediate response from the owner. I was curious 2 know what language u use besides english. I looked up your dogs name and it appears 2 be a single aperture far-infrared observatory (SAFIR. Interesting but is that what you named him after? By the way I got hurt yesterday after running w/ my Bella she won't get any play time w/ me 4 a good while now. I feel terrible that she can't now b/c of me =/
I hope u feel better soon! The language is Romanian. And his name means sapphire. The reason why we named him Safir is actually a very sad story. We had bought a puppy from a great breeder before Safir,he was shipped by plane from Germany->breeder, then breeder->me.I was on my way to the airport, the breeder called my on my cell and told me there was an accident.A huge food cart fell on his crate, crushed and killed him.I cried for weeks. His name was Xafir,so we gave Safir his name in Xafir's memory.
I don't know what I just did when I clicked subscribe next your name. I just wanted to compliment you on your excellent work w/ your German Shepherd. I like how he listens to your every command and plays when you allow him to...Favorite trick is at 1:40min. when you have him hold still...Outstanding trick =)...I can tell you enjoy each others company. I have one that is @ 3 months. I plan to start enrolling her in schutzhund training. Hopefully she will be as smart as your dog = ).
What you did is you subscribed to my videos, so any time I add a new video utube will email you to let you know. You can unsuscribe if you want to. Thanks for your compliments. Good luck with your puppy, I'm sure he will be more obedient than Safir, I didn't train him that much because of some health problems he had. I wish we could've done Schutzhund. Maybe with my next puppy :)
