I've seen a lot of legendary conference final performances before and I never saw someone score 48 points on 15 shots, not even Jordan. Not only was Dirk extraordinarily efficient, he was doing it while hitting an array of fade away jumpers over a good defender in Ibaka. Everyone else in the league would have needed 25-30 shots to get 48 points... not Dirk. Easily the MVP and best player of the playoffs... there's nothing anyone can do to stop him form scoring.

Dirk Nowitzki is the Mavs and has been for years. I will sink into a state of depression when he retires. He's good, but in 2007 the mavs had the best team in the league so you can't say he did anything with a mediocre team. I'm just speaking the truth. Look at their season record, they won 66 games. The fact is: dirk choked, not his team, but him. I'm a lakers fan and I can say kobe choked in 2009 when he should have stepped it up. Lastly, dirk had a terrible series against golden state averaging only 19pts. During the season he did put up good numbers, specifically in the percentages (24.6pts, 9rbs, 3.4 asts with 50%fg, 90%ft and 42%treys). Nash still had a better season and was more valuable to his team. Either way it was a crappy year for basketball and the MVP is somewhat of a joke popularity contest that has nothing to do with who is the best or how they perform throughout. Dirk is a good player, not the best, no way.

Sabonis was second to passing to Bill Walton, but in Euro play when healthy he averaged around 21.5 ppg and got about 13 boards. Playing against midgets. I'd say Dirk is the best, then Drazen Petrovic, Ginobli, Pau Gasol, then Parker. Sabonis had no cartilage in his knees when he got here. So we'll never know. How about 'Bob' McAdoo? Left the NBA at 36 years young with 18000 points a few championships and MVP trophy, then scored 27 points a game in 7 seasons in Europe :) does that count?

Regardless of what will be said of him, there is no doubt that Dirk has place among the NBA's All-Time Greats. His number 41 will be proudly retired, he will be proudly enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and his name alone will forever attain iconic status in the sport. Dirk Nowitzki is the name.

People don't realize that... the fact that's he's 7 feet, and has probably the prettiest shot in the NBA(high arc, when he's on it's flawless) is just awesome. Of course he's not as fast/explosive as he used to be.

Sabonis was second to passing to Bill Walton, but in Euro play when healthy he averaged around 21.5 ppg and got about 13 boards. Playing against midgets. I'd say Dirk is the best, then Drazen Petrovic, Ginobli, Pau Gasol, then Parker. Sabonis had no cartilage in his knees when he got here. So we'll never know. How about 'Bob' McAdoo? Left the NBA at 36 years young with 18000 points a few championships and MVP trophy, then scored 27 points a game in 7 seasons in Europe :) does that count?

He's 24... and only takes 3 pointers even though he's an amazing slasher with a truly explosive drive. Not to mention he's a great ball handler and can outjump most guys. But... on the Trailblazers he'll never fully develop.

Regardless of what will be said of him, there is no doubt that Dirk has place among the NBA's All-Time Greats. His number 41 will be proudly retired, he will be proudly enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and his name alone will forever attain iconic status in the sport. Dirk Nowitzki is the name.

Dropping props for Dirk! When he was new to NBA, remember the comparisons to Bird? He's done a good job living up to stellar expectations, 10 seasons and he still brings it--high level...hope he doesn't retire soon, he's good for NBA!

just because the guy isnt as flashy doesnt mean he cant be mvp. the basis of the award is mainly on stats. and nba stats doesnt include dunks, alley oops, or crossovers. its about points, rebounds and blocks. and shaq, iverson, and dirk in the same breath does sound right. the years they bacame mvp, shaq and dirk were both scoring 28 points per game. iverson was scoring 31.
