Yep. I used a DPDT selector switch to go between the two, but you can omit it and just supply a pot.
Another thing you could do would be to add a range selector by putting in a switch with a cap that goes in and out of the circuit. Just make sure your math is right in conjunction with your pot value and resistor values so that the range is correct, unless of course you don't care about playing it musically and just want a noise maker.
You should just wire in a .047 cap with a pot to gnd like a guitar tone roll off. It sounds almost identical to the wave shaper I used in mine and is about 100 times less complicated.

These are extremely simple circuits. Most of these little synths are just pulse/square wave oscillators made from 555 timer ICs. This one is a little more complex than that, but do a google search for Atari Punk Console, and you'll be on your way!
I have another one that I just made with some major improvements over this one (better scaling, tone, etc). I'm going to be throwing it up on eBay within a week or so.
Just build the optical theremin they have on there (4 parts). It's extremely simple. The tone shaper is on there as well.. And you can just shunt the output by installing a momentary switch like I did so it isn't always on.
yaaay! awesome!

Can you give me a link for the waveshaper? I can't find it anywhere and it's the only thing that I miss
