  • The Geico gecko with dreadlocks! Good bass playing! You need better lighting. Please slow it down a bit and explain each move at about 1/4 the speed you regularly play.

  • Hey man....GREAT LESSON!!!!!! please put up more videos!

  • //////////

  • God bless you too

  • nice lesson bro !!!

  • Love the video. Been trying to get new and different ideas of how to play all scales in a more musical way, rather than the same straight pattern up and down. Would really appreciate any more ideas for that! And for also playing chords. Make learning much better/fun :)

  • Thanks for the vid. Really clear explanation.

  • Cool ... u r my new bass teacher!

  • Love the way you play bass and toss your locks back! Very informative vid!

  • Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay?

  • "How do I get better?" It would have been easier if it didn't take you the first two minutes to get to the fucking point! This video = Wholly pointless. Other, better vids out there.

  • do you read music or do you do it all my ear?

  • @IbanezFace I can read music but I started off by ear! My knowledge of music theory has no bearing on the way I play! Scales & modes help me get out of tight situations. Its kind of like a railtrack that takes you home when you don't know where your going but most of my style is a combination of other players I've copied over the years!

  • ah i wish i had a six string iv got a 4string though :(

  • @wowskater99 I think he's playing a 5 string!!

  • If you're having trouble try and get your hands on a keyboard/piano and get used to the sound of the C major scale which is all the white notes, (C D E F G A B C) then D to D using all the white notes (D E F G A B C D) then E to E and F to F etc.

    Hope all that makes sense!!

  • @TheServant09 Hi there, love this video . Anyway I have a question about the modes and scale and appregios , I have taken the time to learn them but want to know how I can make it sound musical like you just did. I just play the modes and scales and all the appregios but I can't combine them to make sound musically, any help..........

  • @Kuuuks Hey there! I can't log into my old account for some reason (something to do with google) so I can't reply as servant09. To be honest I'd already come up with some ideas of my own before I new anything about scales or modes. My knowledge of scales only comes into play when I play a riff that doesn't quite turn out the way I intended it to...I then switch to scales & modes to help avoid a trainreck whilst finding my way back home.

  • The best thing to do is listen to good bass playing, try to copy it. This along with your individual interpretation of scales and modes will enhance your own personal style!

  • Hey bos!!!

Sorry for the late reply, I'm sure there's some great books out there that can tell you the names and shapes of all 7 of the major scale modes (along with the modes for the harmonic and melodic minor scales), but I learnt what I know about modes at a workshop that was very similar to my vid!!!

  • Was that a hillsong bassline u busted out there? hotness..hehe

  • Arrh you recognised it!!!

Hope you had a good Christmas mate!!

  • @dblaxter i noticed it too. my mind said "wqhoa! wait a sec!" :)

  • @dblaxter i noticed it too. my mind said "whoa! wait a sec!" :)

  • excellent, excellent, excellent ! i feel you really broke modes down so we could get a clear, clean (cut out de rubbish), understanding. again - excellent ! good teaching brotha . please keep em coming . all this AND your a brother in Christ..... hallelujah! my cup runneth ova.

if i can make a request ? how do i increase my understanding of bass harmony ? understanding is key!

  • Thanks bro!!

People approach it in different ways, but bass harmony is usually what you would call the root note eg. if ur playin a C major chord the bass harmony wud always be C wher as if ur were playing sax or singing it could be any of the 7 notes in the C major scale.

We can do that too but see yourself as a defender, don't go too far from the root for too long because ur job along with the drummer is to hold everything together and create a solid platform for the rest of the band!!

  • @TheServant09 More lessons bro!!! PLZZZZ

  • could you break this down a little more im jus learnig lol i like the way u play

  • Sure just tell me the section you want slowing down.

  • dude you a beast you really got

    skills

  • Thanks bro!

What's ur prediction on Cotto v Pacman?

  • Drew this is so flippin' helpful!

Matt Southy sent me the link to you and you got the groove man. big time!

this is one of the areas of my bass playing I am pretty rubbish at, but your video has helped make it clearer for me. so thanks!

I can only hope one day I'll be able to play half of what you can!

also your other videos are really helpful. keep doing what you are doing!

    peace out bro

  • Your welcome bro!!

You don't need to be sounding like anyone else tho!!

The great thing is everyone has a natural unique way of expressing rythmn & harmony and learning scales and stuff just helps us to bring it out. The transition from playing scales like a robot to doing it "bananafingers" style is really exiting.

  • That's a nice bass. Sounds great!!

    What is it??

  • Hey Drew, that was a nice lesson, like you said a bit general, maybe annotate the names of the scales/modes you used?

Good playing as always and thanks for your comment on my vid, would be nice to have a jam sometime.

    Peace

  • Yea a jam would be great!!

Concerning modes, I can play them but I've never known the names of all of them off by heart.

  • Drew man, great to see you here - loving your sound and vibe.

Thanks for your vids and thoughts, great stuff. Hope all's well with you and the family.

    Peace,

    Matt Southcombe

  • Drew thanks so much for this. You are a blessed brother. Keep using your talent for God and He will bless you Mightily. Gods richest blessings

    Micah

  • Thanks bro

but give me a rating man. 85 views and counting and only one rating!! lol

Let me know if there's any specific technique you want me put up here.
