Fluorescent lights DO NOT make strobes obsolete, due to the fluorescent VERY LOW light output compares to even the el cheapo strobes I have.

For example, I can shoot at ISO 100 at the max sync speed of my camera 1/250 sec at f22 without even going to full power.

With most video lighting kits, say 3x1000 watt tungsten equivalent, will only get 1/60 with f5.6. or so, barely enough for a 1 person video with VERY HIGH gain (high ISO) and very poor quality. Good enough for youtube, but NOT GOOD.
