  • You're not lying. My dvr40 harddrive gave out and directv gave me the r15 to replace it. It was all shiny and cool. But who the hell designed that piece of shit. A bunch of toddlers. Tivo is a hell of a lot better. They should bring back Tivo DVR because their piece of crap is just terrible. How could you make something that doesn't work half the time. The first run/series select doesn't work right. When you try to rewind or fast forward live or not recoding it freezes and skips.

  • r 15 300 and h 20 600 garbage 1st version r16s had a loud ass fan even when shut off too.

  • wow,lol If you had watched the video you will see you are semi correct, the image is frozen on a channel I did have which it was recording, I switched to a random channel random, which apparently I do not pay for, thus why that message coming up saying I did not have that channel yet the the image still stayed. Since it was frozen.

    Watch the video, I see you missed me changing channels, From a channels I do pay for to a channel I don't pay for thus "771" appeared.

    I have since got rid of this Box, and I have had no issues with the new one.

  • @tsslaporte if you pay forf the channel it shows up, if you DON'T pay for a channel it gives you 721- channel not purchased. 771 means searching for satellite. . . which means either the sat set-up is wrong or there is something wrong with the system. If the new box fixed the system that was it. Glad ur goin again

  • DirecTV is eons better than any other Cable or Sattelite service I've had to use. Sure, their customer service is....Terrible, and their boxes tend to have issues every now and then (R15 is notable for this), but try sticking a month with Charter Communication's digital service, I couldn't do it.

  • Where is the black screen? All I see is an Image of that person on my screen which did not come off till a soft reset. Did you watch the vid?

  • Directv is the worst..... Overpriced....and everytime it rains or snows....you get the "searching for signal" on your screen... Just how do they stay in business????

  • @alanm46 . . . . . you need to peak ur dish or have it done. and wipe the snow off. build-up of snow defracts the signal, not the fact that it's snowing. HARD rain should be all that temporarily blocks it.

  • lol rain. my screen used to turn to big pixels like I was playing a game of video checkers whenever the leaves fluttered on the trees outside. got it in the rear bigtime when I left before the 2-yr contract was up. almost had to mortgage a house to pay my final bill. would have been even more if I didn't force them to remove the extra channels I told them NOT to add over the phone when I started service. DTV sucks for anyone not rich or who lives where there's anything but sunshine and no wind.

The rep cant see what the heck your doing, there manager wants them to pump out numbers like a mofo, and customers want super smart techs that automaticly know what your seeing for $11 an hour, NOT GONA HAPPEN IN ANY CALL CENTER EVER. Call centers have massive turn over so NOOBS all the time, there is no human value in a call center, just numbers. You customers for any company are just statistics and there employees are there for a paycheck not for you.

  • i don't know what company's you have been dealling with, but i work a directv warranty technical call center, and we actually fight with our supieriors on nearly a daily basis about the conflicts that we find in the system to make things better for you. so in actually fact we a RISKING our jobs to make your life easier and better. so BACK OFF!!!!

  • I took me wrong, I am talking about how techs cant see what the customer is doing over the phone. Also I am saying that call centers in general are not about employees but numbers thus employees quit all the time. I am basically telling people to back off the call center reps because it is not possible to be perfect over the phone. Us techs appreciate what the REPS do do for us, I am just saying for other people reading to not pick on the call center becuase they cant be perfect.

You read the first half a sentence and made an assumption. I just said a rep cant see what you (the customer) are doing, so you have to tell them exactly. I also said that call centers (in general) have large turnover so there is trainiees. I also stated that they want calls per hour,they always want better stats. Keyword: READ!!!

  • Directv steals peopels money without the customer knowing I still work for directv and i feel sorry for the hundreds of calls i take monthly were the customers have all the reason but firectv hides it all. If a customer has is receiver and gets a receiver replaced diretv automatically signs the customer up with a new contract without the customer knowing. also the equipment the customer gets its a refurbished receiver which will break down in no less than a month.

  • Customers and Technicians get the shaft for those refurb units! If it fails before a 3 month warranty period, the tech gets back charged for a defective box that wasnt his fault to begin with and the customer has to deal with calling DirecTV for assistance all over again!

  • DirecTv is not stealing money. I work for directv as well. It's really a simple issue that can be resolved. People should learn how to read.

    And the customer does know about the new agreement, once again you have to read.

  • Psst. this time I have to say your wrong, even though I hate to admit this, look at the service message on the screen. "CHANNEL NOT PURCHASED" means that channel is not part of the package you subscribed to.

    If it was, all you needed to do was call DirecTV and tell them to send the reauthorization signal to activate the channel again.

    As for the R15 its a peice of shit anyway because it does glitch once in a while. Especially your model #. The new R16 is a little better.

  • even the scripting that is followed is formed from the feedback given to our engineering team from what we know does and doesn't fix a particular issue. but each call is treated separatly and i GUARANTEE that not all of the prob's people call in about and the steps done for those issues have a script at all. electronics are COMPLETELY unpredictable, just like the people that create and use them.

  • sounds like it may be a problem with the dish setup. Dish may not beinstalled correctly. As a installer i know the DTV r15 s crap, but that issue sounds like install issues. Course with the r15 yo never know...

  • DId you even pay attention to what was going in the video. The DVR loaded satelite info so nothing was wrong with the dish. You call yourself an installer and you didn't even note the "channel not purchased" message on the screen. LMAO its guys like you that give Directv a bad name.

  • LOL! I'm having an even worse problem today. Reset the receiver (have to do that at least twice a month), and now the satellite picks up exactly nothing. Niiiiice!

  • Yeah, it's videos like these that make me understand why I get so many reports of broken R15's. Having books covering ventilation holes on your receiver will only lead to trouble - maybe not fire, but certainly equipment overheating which will cause a wide range of problems leading up to and including equipment failure. Hope you bought the protection plan.

    Third, If you got technical problems, register at DBSTalk and post a new topic about your R15 or call Tech Support.

  • Yep they don't cover if you brake the remote or you bust your tv. Also you should never and I mean never turn off you box. Unless you want it to mess up on you when you are trying to watch tv. If your picture frezzes when it rains just hit the reset button insted of making a big fit about it.

  • You should never turn off your box cause it will mess up on you. Also take off the books you got on unless you want a fire to start. Also the next time you have that just hit the red reset button and it will be fine.

  • We have you guys at my house and we have no problems what so ever when it comes to fixing little problems. If the picture frezzes I know to hit the red reset button. Also I we never looked back when we swiched cause whe n a power outage happends your box automadiclys resets and you can watch tv still when power comes back.

  • It would help so much not to keep the reciever in a cloised cabinet. Those recievers do give alot of heat and it will crash frequently. It will crash (Freeze)if it gets too hot. Because the Directv HR20 is a modified computer.
