  • What an absolutely beautiful song...

  • Overlapping footage gives the perfect feel. Nice touch. :)

  • John needs a studio version of this. It's a true fan"" favorite.

  • This is why I have such a deep emotional attachment to him. It feels like his songs come straight from my own heart.

  • didnt need a microphone.

  • @KeithMayerSambora The other two might be Justin Bieber and The Jonas Brothers who desperately try to be like him.

  • Ah... Birmingham... THE greatest place in AL if youre into getting mugged, shot, raped, or Hep C.

  • Oh please continue forever playing this song. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it. Love it!

  • mineeeeeee s2

  • nice video, really love the editing! nice quality, good job!

  • one of his best songs IMO

  • Well done. very well edited. Thought it was a professional live vid

  • great video man

  • oh wait, I cry..

  • This song makes me want to strip naked, burst out of my room window, free fall 21 floors, land in the snow, make a snow angel, shiver from the cold, get hypothermia, DIE!, go the pearly gate, say whats up to Saint Peter, do our secret hand shake, look in the directory for Siddhartha (Buddha), find Him, have Him reincarnate me into a frog, meet a princess, kiss her, turn into a prince, order my subjects to bring me a computer, listen to this song again, and cry myself to sleep.

  • @Sunamogura Best Youtube Comment ever seen great styles! :)))

  • @Sunamogura Those lines would actually make a pretty great song, you know.

  • @Sunamogura shut fuck up fucking faggot why dont you just enjoy the fucking video instead of writing all this stupid dumb fucking shit. or do you need people to give you those fucking thumbs up to make you feel better stupid fucking fuck.

  • @Czavala8 Fuck fuck fucking fuck!

  • @Czavala8 someones is a lttle jelous lol shut up and worry about yourself.

  • @Czavala8 what's the matter Mr. Grumpy Gills?

  • @Sunamogura can i get a hit of whatever you're on please

  • @danzappala

    ahahaaha I want in too!

  • @Sunamogura Seems like a whole load of effort man! .. I'd just pause it, grab a sandwich come back to my laptop and hit reply ;) .. But the scenic route definitely seems more entertaining!

  • @KeithMayerSambora

its 4 now i know ones taylor dont know whos the other ahaaha

  • intelligent lyrics, excellent guitar execution, great vocals. this is his best work since gravity.

  • @gabriell16bishop Agreed completey, except that he wrote this song way before Gravity, back in his Room For Squares days, it was just never released.

  • I love how JM just stops singing and wants to accompany the B-ham choir during Something's Missing. He loves when we sing along!

  • Wow... seriously that gave me goosebumps! Thanks for this! I have seen John nine times and I have still never seen him do my two favorite songs... Covered in Rain and Atmosphere. Maybe next tour!

  • BJCC......it was the place to be that night. This song and the gravity solo made my night. I was kinda heartbroken when he didn't play "wherever I go" after this, but you can't be too picky.

  • two songs that I love most from his entire albums *teardrop*

  • aside from where the light is, this is definitely the best live version of this song, thanks for posting!!

  • Did you film this with an dlsr?

  • John Mayer's number one fan here. I go to every concert when he's in town. Have yet to hear this one live. It's my favorite. Please John, you've held my hands, taken a picture with me, but how about my favorite song? :)

  • anyone knows the chords for the way hes playing somethings missing in the vid?

  • fuckin amazin!

  • this will make you miss birmingham for sure

  • I thought this was from a DVD or something :L the image, and most importantly the SOUND are perfect! Thank you for taking this :)

  • The best part of this video is the artist not being drowned out by all the obnoxious drunk assholes trying to play karaoke, and for that I thank you...

  • I was at this concert....BJCC, February 9th, 2010.....I was very much hoping he would play this....I was kind of let down when he didn't play Wherever I Go afterwards, but you can't be too picky!

  • -I actually wrote this song on the bus in Birmingham.

    -NOOOOOO!

    haha

  • favorite john mayer song!

  • Loving this video. The version from Where the Light is has an unnecessary amount of auto-tune on his voice. I love hearing a more natural sound like in this.

  • @shootthephoneco lol auto-tune LOL

  • @8ightBitKid Why are you lol'ing? That DVD is not his natural pitch....

  • @phatfieldguitar not totally natural, but it's still not auto-tune. just produced more for the DVD.

  • Wow, this video was amazing! I was there, in the 2nd row. Such a great night. Thank you for this memento, you did an awesome job with it!

  • haha love it when he just says, "we're all gonna just pretend that we're in my living room.."

  • So beautiful...JM's performance & the video recording. Thank you! I love his reference about keeping his word to Birmingham...growing older together.

  • I like it. Cool to hear a reference to AGT and a follow up years later.

  • @stratingtheolp where on AGT does he say that? I'd love to go back and hear it.

  • @stratingtheolp It's at the end of the concert.

  • such a nice guitar

  • who is the tasteless fool that "disliked" this video?

  • I was there. It was a fantastic concert! I'm really really glad that I went. This song is definitely one of my favorites, but it is my best friend's favorite, and it was her birthday. She almost cried.

  • yep i was there the best concert i've been to. for sure. gravity to close the show was awesome even if his voice was tired he played most of the songs from where the light is and all the songs from battle studies and this was just a great. he stopped a song i cant remember the song just to say "this is the cutest thing i've ever seen." it was a little girl in the front row and he made them put her on the big screen and gave he gave her a guitar pick that night.

  • @inkay6152 I don't remember what song he stopped, I remember him talking to her in Why Georgia...because he said he wasn't going to curse in front of her.... Instead of repeating what he did on Any Given Thursday and say "and leave the shit behind", he just said "and leave it all behind"....

  • This was insane. you could see him working the somethings missing part out in his head.

  • John's voice has gotten so much better. I'm so excited to see the rest of his rise to being a fully apreciated impersonation of awesomeness.

  • really cool to see him having fun with his own music in 5:13

  • easily my favorite song of all time.. this is a really great version of it too!!

  • i think this is possibly his best song

  • He has a 50ft middle finger, must be nice for those srv licks low on the neck.

  • I hate his "I dont remember this song but ill roll with it" thing. He does this all the time. The concert I went too he played the song "not myself". Saw a video of a posting of a concert 4 days later of him saying he hadn't played it in forever.

  • ZERO dislikes. That explains it. And don't dislike it just to ruin it

  • I never cried as much in public as I did when he played this song that night. I literally cried through the entire song. Thank you so much for posting this. It's the best clip from that night I've seen so far.

  • im in love with this song <33

  • my man send me this song..hes a big mayer fan....we both are fans..thanks for the music

  • That's a damn crazy camera u got

  • am i the only one to thing that somethings missing is pure art... i think if it can be recorded in a paper it could be in a museum...

  • amazing! thanks for the video.

  • John Mayer is the man on the guitar! Honestly, an amazing under rated artist and this song is amazing. Great mash up!

  • John Mayer is the man on the guitar! Honestly, an amazing underrated artist and this song is amazing.

  • Briliant.

  • I think john had a brain fart 1:50

  • the performance starts to suck at 6:14

  • I like the fact that John sticks to his original compositions. Because if any of you have seen a live Counting Crows show, Adam butchers his own compositions in the name of "improvisation."

  • @capoman1 I know what you mean. It kind of bugs me when he does that, sometimes it can work, but doing it to every line and melody ruins it. Makes it seem less like improvisation.

  • looove this sooong!<3

  • haha, i saw yogurt mountain in the city part! :P anyway, i was there that night, he was amazing as always of course! one of my favorite songs of his!

  • awesome video

  • ... damn he's good

  • perfect blend. amazing.

  • gota love birmingham

  • amazing video, if i had the money i would follow him around the world :D

  • This was an amazing show the tickets were an amazing Christmas present thank you John Mayer and my Wonderful girlfriend Caitlyn! I love you both!

  • hehe 3:04 when he missed, he draw a smile ;D

  • i love how this video was made!

  • 3:05 is the backgroud on my phone :)

  • Yep, I was definitely going to this concert. Didn't. FAIL.

  • @wheaties1414 That makes too of us. I've got to catch him next go around. I'm still sulking.

  • beautiful

  • My best friend and I was at this show. This was our 23rd John show in 6yrs. I swear if you listen to the section on John's right, I can hear us scream from our toes. Out of all the shows we saw, we never got to see this song live. There is always something different and wonderful about him in Birmingham. He had told me, when I met him at Eddie's Attic in 2005 and we were talking "I love Birmingham. I promise that I will always come back to Birmingham. I PROMISE YOU. ALWAYS."

  • @LoservilleTV John says "I said we'd grow old together and you are keeping me to my word, thank you."

  • @logandil I think its a reference to the promise he made on the "Any Given Thurday" DVD where he said to the crowd at the end of the concert "Lets grow old together, that could be fun." He has grown a lot since then so he is keeping his word, and I personally love wathcing him every year that goes by.

  • @logandil He said this somewhere else. Where?

  • Comment removed

  • @logandil what does that mean??

  • @logandil think he says something to that effect on 'any given thursday' live cd.

  • @logandil in the any given thursday album that he recorded in birmingham for his first record and the end of the show he said lets grow old together so 10 years later he was talking about how he kept his promise

  • @LoservilleTV i think its in reference to what he says near the end of his Any Given Sunday album/DVD, he says it'd be fun to grow old together or something and i think that was in birmingham too

  • @LoservilleTV

After his first filmed concert (any given thursday) John ended the night by saying to the crowd: "Lets grow old together". Now it's been over ten years later, thus he's being kept to his word.

  • @LoservilleTV

It's from the DVD Any Given Thursday. A while back he said "we'd grow old together" and years down the road he kept the promise

  • @LoservilleTV In the video titled 'Any Given Thursday' filmed in 2002, he's on stage and says 'Let's grow old together. That might be fun.' That's what he's refering to.

  • blown away by the quality. good job!

  • this on the battle studies tour?

  • @hhhthegame115 sorry! yeah this is from Battle Studies when he came through Birmingham.

  • beautiful!!! absolutely fuckin beautiful!!! love it!!! LOVE JM!!!

  • @airwind336 ...oops this is actually from melz1207...was using son's account...=)

  • also you should post this on his site...he encourages that also...he is a true artist who wants his fans to have memories of their time with him....

  • just so you know..you didn't beat the system or anything...John Mayer actually wants people to film/take photos at his concerts...he encourages it.

  • what guitar did he use?

  • lol 1:48 :P

  • This is the coolest live concert video taken from the audience that I've ever seen. My new favorite You Tube video. Thank you for posting.

  • hey just wondering what camera you used?

  • just a Canon t1i

  • @logandil what lens?

  • amazing video...

  • Beautiful video.

    God, what a legend.

  • Thank you for this beautiful video.

  • aww darnit i wish he played this at the concert i was at! doesn't matter though---it was still PHENOMINAL. love him.

  • wow this is amazing! i wish he played this song at the concert i was :(

  • thanks guys i filmed this on a Canon T1i dslr in 720p. this was my first time getting to use the camera's HD video so i was pumped when it turned out this well.

  • Haha, it's awesome!

How did you manage to get that in? We weren't allowed to take anything that even resembled a DSLR in. :(

  • I was pretty surprised when we got it in but we didnt do anything sneaky. My friend walked in with it around his neck, the ticket checkers and other workers never said a thing... can you say success? haha

  • beautifully shot! i dig it.

  • What was this filmed with?

  • nicely done!!

  • very well done
