I don't much like most American scones, since everyone feels the need to make them incredibly sweet, and they put loads of extra crap in there. I got the recipe from a Scottish website, so at least that's authentic, eh?

you can make them any shape you like. it doesen't matter. just don't handle the dough too much and you will get taller scones.
