Some of the greatest people in their field are hidden by history - JD case in point. This guy genorosity speaks volumes, shame why some fans always try to create divisions. Some of the comments here trying to belittle him compared to MJ just PATHETIC. Every flower must have a root or it is nothing. BOTH artists in their own ways have contributed enormously to music/dance.
Guys always do the best dancing and have the best moves. Girls usually just pop their asses around and gyrate and stuff, it's boring. I'm not a dancer but if I were I'd do it like a guy because they always do the coolest, gravity-defying shit. I'd be a pop-locker and shit LOOOOL.
also dont forget MJ could not only do all this dance but other styles plus write lyrics, write songs, produce the music etc... there more to MJ than just one thing =)
what that blonde says is pretty wrong... in dance everyone gives everyone steps.. its how you do it that mattters... MJ made everything he did betetr constantly whether he made it up or whether he learnt it from anyone else =)
Wow~! i never knew this stufff!! thanks for this viddddeooo michael's is better he sorta has his own kinda moonwalk i like jeffrey but his is sorta like the backslide not the moonwalk if ya get what i'm saying
I LOVE them both so fucking much it's ridiculous...Can't get enough Of niether...Wanna' take a bite out of both Lol. And thts good tht MJ gave JD cred. Because he deserves it so very much. He's a amazing dancer.
I LOVE Michael and Jeffrey. I give much respect to Jeffrey...but Michael adds a lot of finesse to the movement...he takes it a lot further than Jeffrey gives it...
This goes to show another quality of Michael Jackson: "never forget your teacher". Jeffrey Daniels is really a humble guy despite the fact that he was once a teacher of MJ.
OMG! at that age he is still freakin good!!! like awesomely good! Jeffrey is the best....to think he's 3 years older than Michael he still moves like he was in his younger years...Mike still good though but during his this Is It rehearsal you could tell he was already weak and almost catching his breath.
this guy is not 54 years old as that would be impossible as he's probably only just turned 54 this year as he was born in 1955 and to be honest michael jackson was a far better dancer than this guy even though he is fantaastic michael is just so much better
JD is not only a great dancer and innovator but a great person as well...i actually got to talk with him once and he is just all around cool...dont compare...give credit where credit is due!!!
OMG! Well, yeah ok, mj didnt invent the moonwalk, he said it himself, but still he is the best one to do it, i mean seriously, just look at jeffreys moonwalk it dont even looks like a moonwalk and if you look at michaels it just take your breath away! MJ WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST!
This guy taught Michael about 5 dance moves, popping, backslide being the most famous or any type of slide. However they were not invented by him Jeff was taught also. It's who can do them that matters cause it's bloody hard! Michael was popping in the 70's though check out Dancing Machine.l. Mike also taught Jeff, there's videos of Jeff doing moves Mike does from the Wiz way back in the 70's also. They complimented eachother being both natural dances.
I have a video of fred astaire's trainer commenting on michael jackson... He said: "for me to compare Michael to Fred astaire would do Michael an injustice.. Because what makes Michael so great is his OWN style and his OWN originality.." Sure Michael was influenced by other dancers as well (including james brown and jackie wilson) But Micheal said "I didnt invent the moonwalk.. I only enhanced the dance".. EVERY artist has borrowed something from SOMEONE..
is he fifty four??.. nooooo!! amazing... i have seen that famous moonwalk long from jeffery daniels when he came with shalamar to lagos university and danced that same dance amazing performance.. jefferey daniels v micheal jackson on the moonwalk? hard to say..
god im well gutted! i thought of michael jackson as the best dancer ever!!! childhood hero.... now her comes along this guy!.... don't know what to say
yeh micheal studied the greats and make it better and made it his own | so because he took the best bits from other greats dont mean he aint great himself || i mean shit why dont u do it ?? now his dead why dont u take his best bits jd best bits james brown bets bits and become a star like micheal || hummm u cant u gotta have it and mj had it all
TICKIN WILL From the ELECTRONIC BOOGALOO LOCKERS FROM FRESNO CALIFORNIA created the backslide and the side glide as we know it today. a version of this move was done before in the 1930's it was done on soul train not by Jeffery but by CREEPIN SID from THE ELECTRIC BOOGALOOS from LONG BEACH! Much love and RESPECT to BOOGALOO SAM AND THE EB FAMILY!
Wow. What a kind hearted, humble and wise man. Truly epitomizes a great reflection of the divine. Not only a great dancer but a character to aspire to.
When was this done? At 4:33 isn't that the same move Ciara does in her video If I Was A Boy. Even a little earlier at around 4:10 it looked like what Beyonce did in her live performances for her song Ring The Alarm too!! Can someone please tell me when this was done!! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
I said the exact thing when I saw this...not only did dude inspire MJ but Beyonce and Ciara are borrowing his moves! Dude needs to get some serious paper or at least the respect he deserves!
you are so full of shit. trying to be noticed and seeking fame and money. i'm sure it was michael jackson who had created moonwalk, not you. get a life. i bet you cannot sy this if he was alive.
So, Michael Jackson isn't really shy, it's just a front. When interviewers ask MJ to teach them the moonwalk, he claims shyness. Jeffrey Daniels was teaching him the moon walk one on one and he wasn't shy. Interesting.
corneliusw. Whoa there ! I hired Greg Burges for Bad , MJ didn't know him personally and i knew him through Stephanie Mills ( they did the Wiz together) I was flown to NYC and it was my first video and we wanted someone else with experience but Gregg (r.i.p.) just copied steps from Westside Story ( look at BAD) my steps are original . Truth , from the horses mouth . Peace !
I can understand that it's JDaniel's ; but even the inventor-1st recorded on TV by Bill Bailey here on Youtube. "moonwalk" someone takes the original and improves upon it; or it can be seen as its done on American Idol- "STAR QUALITY" to take it further and reach hearts of millions. Gene Kelly/Fred Astaire both great, but Fred was more loved by public. Fantastic comics here in US, but JERRY LEWIS huge in FRANCE. MJordan or Kobe Bryant? Popularity contests- KOBE SUCKS! GO MJ's of the world!
hey hey, lay offa mike...the dude lived tormented by litigation, his own traumas and damage to his image, LUPUS and vitiligo... just give the guy a break.
he would look all blotchey speckled half white and black... and have that butterfly mark of lupus on his face... BUT...his nose would have been normal...so what's the point?
Uh, wrong, Jeffrey Daniels is 54. Michael Jackson was 50 going on 51 before he died. You got it backwards. Jeffrey is 3 years OLDER than Michael. As for MJ without surgery, just look at Jermaine or any other of the brothers for an idea of how MJ may have looked with no surgery
sandpany ,thanks for the vid,but you should def put mj name as a title as well so that you get more hit, this def. need to be seen really enjoyed it. cheers
as far as MJ's hip hop influence there is no doubt he was influenced by Jeffery, but Michael has been influenced by MANY.. Bob Fosse, James Brown, Jackie Wilson and others.. Michael has even done tap dancing, lyrical, and jazz... So to say MJ's dance comes from Jeffery is not right.. Michael is the most VERSITLILE dancer EVER..
Man, I don't know about that. We have seen alot more of MJ's dancing than Jeff's. Micheal is an overall musical icon and I love his music/dancing to death but Jeff looks to be, at least, his equal in the dance department from all the vids of Jeff I have seen.
i understand what you are saying and agree with you totally. You cant really say either one is better because they are both wonderful dancers in their own way.daniel is more intricate and Michael is more James brown kind of funky and dances in the moment.
I actually stongly think Michael Jackson does the moonwalk better than daniel.Notice Daniel has really short strides? While Michael has longer strides and he uses movements of his arms and legs to compliment the sliding backward look.
This sounds like news to many people. UK West Indian's (and Funk-Soul peeps) knew about JD from Shalamar 82. You'all 25 years behind on this guy. Also there was a dance called 'robotics' see World Disco Dancing competition 79-80. Not the same as popping but some early parts of clicking.
When Micheal Jackson started popping and moonwalking Afro-Americans and UK Caribbeans were already aware of it being done before. Only white people and their media said M.Jackson invented it.
Great video. It brings back memories of watching soultrain and all the great tracks from the 70's & 80's that I grew up with. JD was fantastic on top of the pops and it is great to see he can still move...
No need to compare to MJ. JD has his talent and MJ has his. No one can honestly say that MJ doesn't deserve credit for taking moves and absolutely refining them in his own way. Everyone needs inspiration!
Man Jeffrey is too cool. Seems like the hosts were trying their hardest to get Jeffrey to throw salt in MJ's game. Still he wouldn't do it. He just kept talking about how great a dancer MJ is. Class act all the way.
Like all artists he hired choreographers to do a job. Jeffrey Daniel, Michael Peters, Lavelle Smith, Taco Falcon are the main one's who's routines became legendary and are credited with Awards. Look at the credits on Moonwalker and Ghosts etc. You will see all the names I just mentioned.
This is Jeffrey past his prime which I believe his is still good if not better. Have you seen MJ dance lately? MJ did say he didn't make up the moonwalk but he never gave Jeffrey credit publicly as well as some other dancers for a lot of his so called signature moves.
I had no idea. Culturally speaking, his is some seriously historical information! I was always a big Shalamar fan, but this info is news to me. And I see now that Jody Watley was the first to really have 'Voguing' in her video back in the early 80s!
Ok I have t say this it is 2AM EST and before this very second this dude was just the other guy in Shalimar who was married to Stephenie Mills I live in NY and this guy must be one of those LA phenoms. But he looks great and I am glad he is not just the other guy. He seems to be all over the place. Good for him.
just the other guy?....Maybe to some people in the US, but Shalamars success in the UK can almost single handedly be attributed to Jeffrey's dancing and charisma...and for the record he is a great guy!
That's great. Seriously I like the guy it is just that over here during the late 70's and early 80's he was the guy who was Shalimar that really didn't do much, and then he disappeared. I am happy to see his real talent was not overlooked. They did not showcase it with Shalimar. How old is this clip?
Its within the last year..close to summer I believe. A nice vid for you to see JD when he just went solo back in the early 90's is one called "She's the girl". That entire Skinny Boy album was pretty good..just wasnt marketed properly.
So this is very recent The guy looks great. He has to be close to 50 We are both around the same age, I will go and check the video, thanks for the 411. I wonder if there was a effort to freeze him out of the US market because of Jackson. I mentioned that somewhere else. I agree with interviewer but IMO he was too generous.
LOL! its not like that at all michael jackson use to study movies like THe BAndwagon,WEST side story ,Singin in the rain, thats why michael jackson is the best
No way is this guy better than MJ, granted he inspired him, but Mike firstly got the moonwalk off a bunch of kids on the street, and secondly is a lot more graceful than JD, MJ's moves flow a lot more and his robot is miles more advanced.
what does she mean by " his routine " was generously given by Jeffery i swear they dont wanna give MJ any credit ofr his work anymore and Jeffery he was a CO- choreographer on the videos its not like he created everything by himself and taught MJ everything they did it together
Michael jackson also took moves from james brown. He's not that original!!! Jeffrey taught michael how to do the moonwalk. All the fan's just don't want to listen, so blind.
He also took moves from James Cagney, Michael is not a trained dancer I am not sure why you folks act like he was. And this cat is not going to go on tv say he trained Jackson unless he did. Did we forget Jackson is a singer and not primarily a dancer?
yeah he's more of a singer.. i dont think MJ jad ballet lessons lol.. but can you see how MJ moves.. its like he's taken lessons since birth.. wow.. MJ just learns very fast even in dancing..
JD was paid to do a job. Obviously Michael placed a financial and career value on what JD knows and does. Thats why JD got paid to TEACH and CHOREOGRAPH him. Michael even credits him on the end of the films.
Jefrey daniels in comparison is a catalog where shoppers go and look unless things go wrong no body praise catalog for a good buy. Michael Jackson is a mesiah sent to put a signature in this earth and beyond for those understand what he is doing. Bravo Jeffrey daniels.
Wow this is pretty recent this man realy keeps in very good shape he must be 50 but looks 30 tops.

For many years people have been slighted of their moments of fame and fortune. Thanks for the posting.

I must say that Jeffrey Daniel gave a great interview .... the brotha is a class act. JD all the success in the world to you.
bigfryday 3 years ago
as far as MJ's hip hop influence there is no doubt he was influenced by Jeffery, but Michael has been influenced by MANY.. Bob Fosse, James Brown, Jackie Wilson and others.. Michael has even done tap dancing, lyrical, and jazz... So to say MJ's dance comes from Jeffery is not right.. Michael is the most VERSITLILE dancer EVER..

Maybe He taught Michael somethings but Mj dances better than him.
BleroX 3 years ago 14
Man, I don't know about that. We have seen alot more of MJ's dancing than Jeff's. Micheal is an overall musical icon and I love his music/dancing to death but Jeff looks to be, at least, his equal in the dance department from all the vids of Jeff I have seen.
prairiesix 3 years ago 3
i understand what you are saying and agree with you totally.

No way gozay,Micheal should have given this guy more credit.

at least he paid him,,,lol

Michael always gave this guy credit.

Only white people and their media said M.Jackson invented it.
insut07 3 years ago 9
Awesome. To think the man was around 50 years old when he did this. Good to see Tim and Helen giving proper respect to a legend.
mattmitch 3 years ago 3
Great video. It brings back memories of watching soultrain and all the great tracks from the 70's & 80's that I grew up with. JD was fantastic on top of the pops and it is great to see he can still move...
No need to compare to MJ. JD has his talent and MJ has his. No one can honestly say that MJ doesn't deserve credit for taking moves and absolutely refining them in his own way. Everyone needs inspiration!
Darkchylde1974 3 years ago 4
Man Jeffrey is too cool. Seems like the hosts were trying their hardest to get Jeffrey to throw salt in MJ's game. Still he wouldn't do it. He just kept talking about how great a dancer MJ is. Class act all the way.
ThatBo03 3 years ago 6
There you have it folks! The originator of the moon walk. I remember watching him as a kid as well. Awesome!
montizie 3 years ago
you're right. I remember Jeffery dancing solo to Michael Jackson's "Working Day And Night" on Soultrain. I had never seen anything like it.
courageux28 3 years ago 2
even an immortal dancer like Michael Jackson needs choreographers to help him enhance his moves, teach him and give him ideas for new ones.
219finest88 3 years ago 4
the good thing about it is that MJ easily absorbs new moves and make them better...
dulcerose16 2 years ago
I am tired of pll battling both MJ and JD are great, JD didn't even invent the Moonwalk/Backslide been around since 1932
MJFAN1979 3 years ago 5
I'm confused. I always believed MICHAEL created his own moves ::tear::. I don't know what to think!
robles1805 3 years ago
Like all artists he hired choreographers to do a job. Jeffrey Daniel, Michael Peters, Lavelle Smith, Taco Falcon are the main one's who's routines became legendary and are credited with Awards. Look at the credits on Moonwalker and Ghosts etc. You will see all the names I just mentioned.

jd as not and the problems of mj and therefore hes a top all round man jd
jbaileys3 3 years ago
This is Jeffrey past his prime which I believe his is still good if not better. Have you seen MJ dance lately? MJ did say he didn't make up the moonwalk but he never gave Jeffrey credit publicly as well as some other dancers for a lot of his so called signature moves.
purpulhaze 3 years ago
Michael jackson has said that he did not create the moonwalk nbut mj is by far a better dancer.
EndDogFighting 3 years ago
I had no idea. Culturally speaking, his is some seriously historical information! I was always a big Shalamar fan, but this info is news to me. And I see now that Jody Watley was the first to really have 'Voguing' in her video back in the early 80s!

I gotta thank Jeff for taking the chance, he blew me away when I saw him first prform...a really great guy.
psyne000 4 years ago
Ok I have t say this it is 2AM EST and before this very second this dude was just the other guy in Shalimar who was married to Stephenie Mills I live in NY and this guy must be one of those LA phenoms. But he looks great and I am glad he is not just the other guy. He seems to be all over the place. Good for him.
marbleann 4 years ago
just the other guy?....Maybe to some people in the US, but Shalamars success in the UK can almost single handedly be attributed to Jeffrey's dancing and charisma...and for the record he is a great guy!
sanpandy 4 years ago
That's great. Seriously I like the guy it is just that over here during the late 70's and early 80's he was the guy who was Shalimar that really didn't do much, and then he disappeared. I am happy to see his real talent was not overlooked. They did not showcase it with Shalimar. How old is this clip?
marbleann 4 years ago
Its within the last year..close to summer I believe. A nice vid for you to see JD when he just went solo back in the early 90's is one called "She's the girl". That entire Skinny Boy album was pretty good..just wasnt marketed properly.
sanpandy 4 years ago
So this is very recent The guy looks great. He has to be close to 50 We are both around the same age, I will go and check the video, thanks for the 411. I wonder if there was a effort to freeze him out of the US market because of Jackson. I mentioned that somewhere else. I agree with interviewer but IMO he was too generous.

LOL! its not like that at all michael jackson use to study movies like THe BAndwagon,WEST side story ,Singin in the rain, thats why michael jackson is the best
longbeachlt 4 years ago
No way is this guy better than MJ, granted he inspired him, but Mike firstly got the moonwalk off a bunch of kids on the street, and secondly is a lot more graceful than JD, MJ's moves flow a lot more and his robot is miles more advanced.
pegbar 4 years ago
what does she mean by " his routine " was generously given by Jeffery i swear they dont wanna give MJ any credit ofr his work anymore and Jeffery he was a CO- choreographer on the videos its not like he created everything by himself and taught MJ everything they did it together
dipent6267 4 years ago
Michael jackson also took moves from james brown. He's not that original!!! Jeffrey taught michael how to do the moonwalk. All the fan's just don't want to listen, so blind.
facefavour 4 years ago
He also took moves from James Cagney, Michael is not a trained dancer I am not sure why you folks act like he was. And this cat is not going to go on tv say he trained Jackson unless he did. Did we forget Jackson is a singer and not primarily a dancer?
marbleann 4 years ago
yeah he's more of a singer.. i dont think MJ jad ballet lessons lol.. but can you see how MJ moves.. its like he's taken lessons since birth.. wow.. MJ just learns very fast even in dancing..
dulcerose16 2 years ago
Michael Jackson does the moonwalk better. And actually it's called the backslide not moonwalk.
bboyStuntZ 4 years ago
Jeff is a better mover full stop... Jacko has to pick bits from all the dancing greats... hes good but not and never will be a Great..
bobacat21 3 years ago
any true fan knows this stop hating and the backslide has been round since 1932
MJFAN1979 3 years ago
JD was paid to do a job. Obviously Michael placed a financial and career value on what JD knows and does. Thats why JD got paid to TEACH and CHOREOGRAPH him. Michael even credits him on the end of the films.
bcmpromotions 4 years ago
It would be cool if him and Mike could get together again and choreograph videos. Man, that would be off the chain. *wishful thinker here* LOL.
