THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS THAT REMIND ME OF MY FATHER WILLARD SENIOR BECHARD WHO PASSED AWAY 6 YEARS AGO AND WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS SONG IT ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF HIM...MAY HE REST IN PEACE
This was a great song to end the series on. Also, very fitting having Fraser going off into the wilderness wtih his American friend, looking for the Northwest passage as the final scene.
The one that stadacona band does is better (has music) but I like this too, ps stadacona band is the Canadian naval band for the Atlantic coast (mind most ships have their own as well)
always inspirational, regardless what country you come from, respect for genius is always important, only an ill informed moron would tanish stan's gift's
As a child we lived in Labrador, where my father was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. I feel a kinship with Canada. I grew up on Farley Mowat and Stan Rodgers. As a former Law Enforcement Officer I have the utmost respect for the RCMP. Besides they have cool uniforms.
this song is so great that you dont even have to use a melodie or a tune. great words, im 12 and love this songcand i live in an area that every one likes the new hip hop junk. i also like what hefeibao said
It's always great to hear Stan Rogers. Nobody writes songs like he did. And I'm reminded how much I liked "Due South." Got to check Amazon to see if it's available. That was a terrific show, and the clip is made even better by Stan Rogers. Thank you.
Chicagoan... his son Nathan is a spitting image of Stan and his voice if you close your eyes omg it's like stan was still here singing. I literally got shivers big time when i heard Nathan sing Northwest Passage.
Jesus Christ...you weren't kidding. I looked Nathan up as soon as I read your comment. He's amazing. I didn't even know Stan had a son. Thanks for the info!
Which ones? The independence movements which murder little babies and British soldiers alike or the independence movements which butcher their own people in the name of freedom?
I am from Toronto, born and raised, and I would have to completely disagree with this false idea about Toronto. All foreigners that I have ever met who have traveled here to Toronto, say it is a city of the most polite people they have ever been to.
Great version of a rarely heard song ... the best I've heard is George Cavanaugh's version (he sings with his cousins, the Browne Sisters). He's got a voice that really makes this song resonate.
Well, this is the original version, unless I'm much mistaken. It's from the Northwest Passage album. And Stan's baritone always sends shivers down my spine when I listen to him.
wow sends shivers down my spin they say it was the tinned food that poison the crew of the expedition i remember seeing the exhumed graves it was as if they died yesterday frozen forever in the permafrost.
I have been looking for this song for 20yrs having first heard it on the BBC Nortwest Passage documentory back in 1987 what a song sound better now than it did the Well done U Tube
My wife and I spent last month on vacation across Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and my favorite Cape Breton Island, and Nova Scotia. Everyone we met was, without exception, courteous, friendly and helpful.
Yes - even in Toronto LOL!! I've spent many a day in Toronto and other major cities reputed to be cold and indifferent, and have found that for the most part one gets back what one gives out. Treat folks with respect and over 90% of the time, that's the way you'll be treated yourself. This the way the world actually works.
sorry I am from cape breton and I would have to disagree.I live in Toronto now and there is a HUGE difference between the people. I smiled and was nice and tried hard not to change my friendly disposition I gave respect out to everyone because it's part of my up bringing I never knew how to be disrespectful to a person until I had to live here. I still try to maintain my cape breton friendliness but I have to say it is hard. For the record I was considered overly friendly in Cape Breton.
To be quite honest, there IS a difference between "big city friendly" and the sort which is found in more rural areas, seemingly especially in the Maritimes.... but on the whole the dictum holds: if you treat folks properly, it does indeed come back to you, sometimes in ways and at times you don;t expect it to - not in a "karma"-related manner (which i don't believe in), but i've visited a lot of places and have found that good will is repaid - that's the Way of the World, period.
I'm an American from Montana but I seriously enjoy this song. It's great. Whoever has said that this song should have been included it on the Due South soundtrack had the right idea. I hope they revive the series within the next few years. It would do as well if not better then it did the first time. Just goes to show you, American entertainment is popular if not dominate in Canada but Canadian entertainment also has a strong number of fans in the United States of America.
Despite the fact the explorer's were British, the fact remains of course that it was the men and women of the same stock who colonized our harsh north and braved the wilds of Canada, rather than settling for a warmer more fertile climate to the south. Truly the backbone of Canada stems from those explorers. by the way, any Canadians out there read the Toronto Star, not too long ago they had a story of how they intend on finding the ships of Franklin's expedition finally
What can I say. purely brilliant. Fantastic. Evem though i'm not canadian this is one of my favourite songs ever. It is at the top next to ride forever. a Brilliant seriese aswell!
Not a Canadian, but I love this song. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it on Highlander Radio. Yes, this should be the National Anthem of Canada.

Surely the problem with this song being a Canadian national anthem is that it's theme has nothing to do with Canadians. Franklin and his crew were British.
The idea of good vs. evil has become somewhat quaint in this age of electronic marvels and convenience, but Due South dared to return to the roots of humanity laid by Homer, Lewis, etc. Thank you to Due South for expressing the nobler side of man and to everyone who views this video for their belief that we can be more than just creatures who inhabit this planet for our own ends.
The UK Network DVD is superior to the US/Canadian. On the down side, the packaging is awful and doesn't hold the discs so the float around in the keep case getting scratched. Season/series one and two have been released in France by TF1 and I have heard excellent things about the quality. I have them on order.
i love this song. i too love how he sung it in the last episode, it was rather touching. thanks for making such a nice slideshow with this song, which is definetly a due south song.

What you're trying to say is the song doesn't need drums, or guitar, or stupid synthesized sounds to make it beautiful. You are correct sir!
Every song has a melody, and actually, this song is 100% pure melody.
