I am part of the Rio de Janeiro Eparchy of St. Basil. I am happy to see it spread all over Brazil. We already have parishes in Rio, Sao Paulo, Taubate, in Fortaleza ( Northeast of Brazil) , Juiz de Fora ( Minas Gerais ) and Belo Horizonte! We are growing steadily and in with vigor,( already 400,000 participants) thanks to our Lord and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. God Bless you and thank for this beautiful video.
I am a Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic, but I attend Roman Mass; there are no other Byzantine parishes within literally a hundred miles of me. However, I always use our eastern liturgical books for praying the Hours in my home (Horologion, Menologion, Octeothos, etc.)
@brndurham Very good to hear brother. Yes, unfortunately there are few Eastern Rite Churches in North America (assuming that is your location). I attend DL of St Chrysostom at Ukrainian Church or Trent Latin Rite Mass. Both are so beautiful! I see in recent years a return to mystical and proper Liturgical practice and canon law in both Eastern and Western Churches. The youth demand orthodoxy of Faith and Morals, the age of rebellion is over I hope. Praise to Lord Jesus Christ!
The Church is one, holy, catholic, apostolic. I am so sick of the bullshit that places culture and national history above a unity of piety and faith. The Catholic Church exists of all sorts of liturgy, canon law and languages. The mystical unity is what makes it beautiful. There are many Latins to go crazy when there is mention of Greek Fathers or DL. However, there are very many Greeks who put their culture upon the pedestal. Come to the visible unity of the Church!
Very strange to see what looks like Orthodox clergy celebrating what appears to be a Divine Liturgy in a Latin Church. What a schizophrenic existence the poor Melkites live as the red headed step children of the Roman Catholic Church by their own choice.
I attended a Melkite service in Atlanta earlier this year and i loved it.They had incense and the whole works.I love The Roman catholic church but they dont use enough incense anymore.I could go orthodox.Theres a church in montgomery Ala and there is a real small orthodox church in america mision group . I dont know. From what i here the Greek church in montgomery is mostly order people. In order to go to the big orthodox churches i have to travel 139 miles to Atlanta. What should i do
@umaara100 dont go orthodox not in comunion with pope the romans have a historic rite called the tridentine. the novus ordo is genuine but not historic and lacks mystacysm
@ortodoxiabrasil Dont Waste your time. Become a Greek Melkite Catholic in Brazil, already the greatest Melkite community in the world with 400.000 people. Happy I am Catholic Greek Melkite,.the true and pure, without influence of KGB people ( at least in Russia ). Bless you!
@MrCatholicforever I go to ST.Edward;s Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore,Maryland and i love studying the eastern catholics and if it is God's wil, may even convert to the Maronite Catholic Church but unfortunately, there is no Maronite Churches in Maryland. :p but yeah, there is still more to learn about our eastern brothers.
@MrCatholicforever YES! As a Roman Catholic you are allowed to recieve communion in any eastern catholic church for we ALL are in communion with Rome and to say your name is not really necessary but if you want just say "Servant/Handmaiden of God NAME", or simply "NAME". Hope that helps. :)
@ajl22586 there are 2 icons there.....you can see them in at 1:30 and at 1:48 and i'm sure they were put so far away to make room for all the con celebrants around the altar. and the Melkite church is one of the byzantine churches that if it has any latinazation has the least. but being melkite i can tell you that offical the only latinazation we have are the pews...some parishes may do things differently but that is not a reflection of the church as a whole
@mjs5168 Otherwise you come to Brazil, you will go back to your statements regarding melkite church. Here the church is over latinized! Most of parioshioners are of latin rite, and don't even know what is a metanoia. Its sad to me!
@greekismyreligion Not only the parishioners are latnized. But you see tridimensional images, unleavened hosts are used, pews, no attention are given to the byzantine calendar, few icons and no understanding about their meanings and theology (I noticed this in a talk with the deacon), the priest uses a Syriac vestiment. No incense, also the liturgy is never chanted, but read in portuguese, with some hymns sung, that comes actually from the brazilian charismatic renewal.
Don't be snippy, ajl22586. They're in the (Latin) basilica of St Paul Outside-the-Walls in Rome, which is built on the tomb of St Paul the Apostle--notice that this is a pilgrimage to Rome for the Year of St Paul.
@TheBubbly111 whoa whoa whoa. I don't know what ajl22586 is talking about, I occasionally attend a Byzantine liturgy at the Melkite church in Augusta, Georgia. NO Latinisations. Considering the priest there now was a once an episcopalian (and also a Greek Orthodox priest) and one of the last ones they had, the lovable (though I've never met him) Fr. Munn was also a former Episcopalian. So one would expect some sort of latinisation, no? The church (especially the last two popes) have made
One question: where is the iconostasis??? I've never seen or heard of a Byzantine liturgy being celebrated without it.. but then again, that's just what you'd expect from a Church that's done everything to Latinize the Eastern churches.
@ajl22586 Well, as you would find in the description, the Liturgy is held in the Basilica of St. Paul's Outside the Walls. There's obviously no iconostasis there, since, after all that is a church of the Roman Rite.
@ajl22586 In any Byzantine rite liturgy celebrated, it is preferable to have the iconostasis. However, in this example, it is quite obvious that it is not a church built for the iconostasis. In events like this, it usually suffices to have 2 FUNDAMENTAL ICONS; namely that of:-
i) The Theotokos with Child Jesus
ii) The Pantokrator
If it is available and practical, you can also have the icon of the patron saint. I have been to Greek Orthodox liturgies without an iconostasis. This is no different.
this mass is celebrated in ST PETER LATIN PAPAL CATHEDRAL IN ROME !!!! WHILE THE MELKITE PELGRIMAGE !!! WE'RE NOT LATINISED AT ALL !! WE'RE PROUD TO BE MEKITES, HAVING A GREEK ORTHODOX TRADITIONS AND IN COMMUNION WITH ROME ...
NB : I ATTENDED MANY ORTHODOX LITURGIES WITHOUT AN ICONOSTASIS !!! CAN U EXPLAIN ?
@greekismyreligion Hello Melkite. I am Byzantine rite Ukrainian Greek Catholic. Yes, we have complete freedom (and are highly encouraged) to practice the Divine Liturgy, use our own canon law, etc, provided we have the same Faith. as the rest of the Catholic Church. I thank God that I am Catholic.
We in the Latin Church need the Eastern Churches. The Church must breathe with both lungs, and the influence of these beautiful liturgies and many of their ancient rites, passed down in the deposit of the faith, can only serve to invigorate the Church as a whole. We have fallen near to Calvinism in the non-traditionalist circles of Catholicism, which is a great deal of the Church. We need the eastern Churches. Thank you for your patience with the West, and I pray for equity, respect and unity.
God Bless our Eastern brethren! It's such a shame that we are so ignorant of these beautiful rites within the one, true Church!
