Yeah well my guppy had a few babies and idk if she ate any but theres some in there and the pet store dude said the fry should be just fine in my tank with all the Duckweed to hide in. We shall see how it goes with them free to swim uncaged. Wish me luck! Or rather, wish them luck! ;D
i bought my guppies at a pet store and wen i got home i left them in there baggie and later i let them in with the betta and gold fishies that i got on that same day too, i woke up the next day and they die. i wanna know why =[
I love my guppies to bitz! I got 2 adults - male and female, and 2 small babiez that are big enough not to get eaten by the adultz. My female gave birth just a week ago and Ive counted 5 or 6 fry. I knew that she was pregnant but I didnt know when she gave birth - just looked at my fish bowl and saw the fry! I was so excited!

guppies are nice fish to take care they breed easily i'm sad because my blue metallic male guppy jumped out in my aquarium and my brother said to me that my guppy is dead he may rest in peace:(
@alicechaos Yeh. That's true, they leap pretty high. My guppies live in a small pond. One of them saw the water from the fountain coming down and it leaped so high, but luckily it didn't get out because the water kinda pushed him down. Do you have a lid on your tank? By the way, your guppies are nice, especially the long red tail one at 0:33
@alicechaos :i bought my guppies at a pet store and wen i got home i left them in there baggie and later i let them in with the betta and gold fishies that i got on that same day too, i woke up the next day and they die. i wanna know why =[
@guitarmanaddi :how do u keep ur water clean? bc my water is like kinda dirty from 2 fantail goldfish,2platys.2 mollies, i have a filter and a bubble eblower; they make it dirty soo fast . i think imma change some of its water today?
@alicechaos wow. i wish i had what you did. mine always breed and have babies but i miss it. i have a birthing tank but they never do it even after a month and if i leave them in too long they get sick... i see all these people that start with only like 3 guppies and get hundreds sooner or later, without even trying or better yet knowing. i almost tried overstocking my tank with males and female guppies and i only got seven from 7 males and 7 females in a 10 gallon tank. still no luck!!
nice.. i have some fry to .. but i don't seem to get them to grow.. they caind of dying .:) can you give me any tips ..? i think the aier is the problem..
I try keeping some of the females virgin for select breeding, but havent had the patience to do it the "right" way. I normally take a few females I think are virgin and place them in a tank with what I feel are my best males and hope for the best. Since I'm not working with really exceptional fancy guppies, I'm lucky if they produce interesting fry.
Not to mention you dont seem to have anything for the babies to hide in/under. Guppies are cannibalistic, like most fish, they will eat there own young if /when they find them and they are young enough.
that's a....rearing tank i think. and yes....guppies get stressful when they know something is blocking them in between....or they are in a container within a container....they always die in a few days time.
uymm no the parent do not eat the babys when there small i have breed thses fish in the past and still fiddle around with them every no and then they are simple to breed and great fish to start off breeding
by the way man y would u put ur fish through all that stress you idiot
they will only eat there babies if they are deformed or have something rong with them, mate i hve breed these fish for years and i have never seen them eat there own healthy fry
I've been breeding guppies, endlers and other live bearers for 15 years, and I can confirm they will eat their young regardless of how healthy they are. Why do you think there are so many breeding traps on the market that seperate the fry from the parents?
I have... It gave birth then the fish swam around infront of the mother.. so the mother ate it as guppies are carnivoris omnivores.. asshole mothers...
the parents do eat the baby when their small. guppies don't stop breeding. I have segregate mine into 2 different aquariums. One for male and the other for females.
guppies are usually bought pregnant and they can hold sperm inside for up to six birthings. If you want to make a specific male mate with a female and have its sperm used then have the male in a tank alone with the female after she is done giving birth. This will ensure his sperm is used for the next batch.
Females should be seperated when giving birth as they will eat their own young.
i have 52.. a 5 gallon tank... what should i do?!?!?! guppies for sale... guppies for sale... ughhh... dont breed guppies... i now know why there feeder fish... they dont stop having sex!!!
haha xD i love breeding guppies and getting new color strains or stuff out of them lol... but yeah.. i agree slipnot62.. they do multiply quite fast lol.. uncontrollably fast.. like you could open your own guppy shop in a few months so many... lol xD
Did that make them stressed? Because whe ever you mess or bother them they get stressed. And please don't that again, because it's not very nice to the guppies. Just sayin.
I don't think that bothered them too much, as they were in there for only a few minutes. But I've discovered that too many flash pictures in a row can be very stressful, so I've stopped doing that.
i have one deformed guppy.if you shine a torch on it at night you can see it's translucent body showing the digested food.his body's like a small ball
If you give them enough places to hide they may have a chance in the big aquarium. I suggest not mixing the water they are in now, with the 170 l tanks's water. Its possible their curent water contains a disease or something. Good luck! P.S. I'm NOT a fish health expert so you may want to do some Google searches on guppy health.
guppy fry are very sensitive to water quality-not saying your waters dirty but water thats fine for adult fish can be too polluted for the fry(they are very sensitive to nitrate)-also I lost a few of mine to velvet/fungus so I treated the rest with a half dose of protazin-some people do this as a preventative measure with fry
i DID THE WATER CHANGE AND NOW THEY SEEM TO BE SWIMMING FINE. sTRANGE. Thanks alot. I just got 3 more mixed guppy males from Wal*Mart and they are beautie. I had already got 4 females. Then I just found 2 baby guppies!!! they were just born and i think the rest got eaten or the mother only had a few. YeaH!
I'm really not an expert with fish diseases or guppies, I can only suggest doing a 25% water change and cleaning the gravel. By the way, when guppies get old they seem to wobble more. I also suggest doing a Google search on guppy health, or visit one of the guppy related websites - you'll find better information there. Good luck!

Cool! hey yesterday, I discovered a whole school of baby Koi in my Koi pond. They are about 2 or 3 inches long. I guess they just came out of hiding, because they are now too big to be eaten by the bigger ones.

And btw, when they get stress, the guppies will get sick, and probably die. Cause you dont know how to treat fish with a medicine.
Probably, you will put a aspirine in, to see how it works, so stupid you are.
MCasinoW 2 years ago
My grandpa used to give aspirin to dying fish and it always worked lol
MalamuteKid 2 years ago
you serious u are lying right cause im going to do that
sajeevan1 2 years ago
not lying, lol, he said he'd just put an aspirin in the water
i have no proof that this works, but my grandpa said it did and so did my mom
they also used it on their duckling when it ate a poisonous flower and almost died, and it worked :P
MalamuteKid 2 years ago
so it does work?

according to them it does
i wouldn't try it though, unless I was pretty sure a fish was about to die and i would move it into a seperate tank
