  • glad they got rid of checks

  • lol

  • I wonder how many times "new" and "exciting" were said.... P.S if this was already a top comment or something, sorry. I can't see top comments on my phone.

  • lol at this point Atari was like 'buy a 2600... please!!'

  • Great video

  • The thing I remember about this commercial is that I was 10 when it came out and had no idea what "Relentless" meant so the whole ending made no sense. I was like "oooo I can't wait to hear WHY he's buying the Atari!" "She's relentless??? That's it? WTF does that mean???" LOL

  • Gross !

Sugar daddy is pleasing his little Lolita.

  • I still Write Checks :) QC

  • You see this cute little girl over here?

    yes...

would you like to fuck her for $500?

  • You see this cute little girl over here?

    yes...

would you like to fuck her for $500?

  • The little girl is adorable..what ever became of her?

  • @tom11zz884

    They got married.

  • @tom11zz884

She's probably going down to the same shop to buy a PS3... cuz HER cute little girl is relentless!

  • LOL he was going to pay with a check! I havent seen anyone write a check in years.

  • shes the devil lol

  • OMG, I think that was Bill Smitrovich!

  • We finally got ours at a Joske's for $79.99. That must have been around 1984, because the other options were the ColecoVision or Intellivision systems.

  • @SkitzerPoindexter

We got our Atari in Christmas 1982. My older Step-Brother had one in 1980. His room was in the cellar and my mother married his father that year. He would only let my younger brother and I play it occasionally. Typical Teenager (We were like 9 and 8, he was 16) I am fairly close to the guy these days, but sometimes I remind him about that!

  • Was that Bill Smitrovich?

  • Dad, put that checkbook away. Real men don't write checks in public.

  • @MrHongKongBuffet It's all about the Benjamins.

  • @MrHongKongBuffet

    They did back then.

  • You see that girl over there?

    She's relentless.

  • hahah wow imagine we bring an xbox 360 kinect back then theyd all have the EPIC FACE!!

    O0O

  • NO. debit card..huh.

  • Id tell that girl to shut up and go play with a rock

  • I just love that he paid for it with a check.

  • now the wii YAAAAAAY Lets-a go whoo hoooo

  • atari look like a radio

  • that little girl is sexy

  • @Airdemon2100 pedophile...

  • @Airdemon2100 CALL CHRIS HANSEN!

  • I think thats Bill Smitrovich, good actor, been on "Miami Vice"," Life Goes On" , etc....Funny to see him in this

  • Reading some of these comments people seem surprised that the 2600 was still in production in 84. In fact it was produced until 91.

  • "Buy it so your kids stop bugging you!" Great message, Atari.

  • Am I the only one that finds it weird this ad aired in the wake of the video game crash of 1983 and 1984? Then again, "I'm buying it because the market could die if we don't support it" would make a pretty scary ad.

  • @CaptainAshSpearow Just think how close we came to not having the badass games of today. The industry likely would have took off again some day, but we would be several/many years behind today's level of gameplay and graphics.

  • @quazzie11 Yes, and I have an overweight plumber, a princess, and giant dragon to thank for that.

  • @quazzie11

No we wouldn't. The quest for the almighty buck by competing companies assured that. Free Markets have their uses.

  • damn that girl must look hot today

  • I got my 2600 for Christmas the same year but it was a completely different model to that, much more slimline with only one joystick for some reason.

  • Isn't that the same voice for the Dunkin Dounuts commercial from the 80's?

  • New low price because Nintendo was getting ready to come out.

  • I actually remember this commercial when I was 9 years old!!

  • I have an Atari 2600 in my bedroom right now. Uneven as far as games go ("Surround"? WTF?), but has a number of great ones too.

  • Were they still flogging these in 1984? The Atari ST came out in 1985?!

  • They were still selling the 2600 in 1984??? Should have gotten the ColecoVision. ten times better!!

  • @justin76pa Yeah but the Colecovision didn't have as many games.

  • @jeffoneonone True.

  • the girl is ugly my cat is more cute than her

  • lol, he pulls out a cheque book

  • @nonamebrand0

Running a credit card wasn't as easy as it is now. Debit options didn't even exist, if I remember right. Most people kept their funds in checking accounts and paper drafts (checks) were still the preferred method of payment. Of course 'Check guarantee cards' existed then that assured the merchant that the check wouldn't bounce, but with 'bank float' check kiting schemes were often in the news. It was/were 'simpler' times for sure.

  • '

this atari game was american made it,,,

    or asian

  • "This clip was aired in Chicago on channel 7 on July 28, 1984." - no it didn't it aired on the 26th of June you idiot and it wasn't even in Chicago, it was fucking Washington.

  • This was a system that was what 7 years old at that point in time?

Pacman was so rubbish they had to put it in as in pack cart. We europeans got Centipede towards the end of its life and Dixons had the junior with 5 games for £59.99 in 1987. Oh for the past.

  • I live in NYC i love it here

  • This aired after Tramiel bought Atari? This must have been when he was trying to clear out the inventory.

  • @TheAtariJunkie or it was probably made before atari was bought?

  • I see a pedophile trying to buy off a Russian girl.

  • i miss my atari...

  • He's not buying it cause it's good. It's because his daugther thinks it's good. And damn is she right!

    Pitfall 2...

  • Well buddy your girl's going to want somthing a year later.

  • It's the dad from Life Goes On.

  • @ihavesexforhappymeal : HAHA. it is!!

  • "Dude, just wait a year and you can get a Nintendo NES."

  • 2 years, NES launched on Oct 18, 1985 in New York City, February 1986 in Los Angeles, and summer 1986 elsewhere. So unless you were a New York City resident, you had a 2 year wait; hence, the video game crash lasted from 1983-1986.

  • that was when the video game crash and that time who will buy a videogame console them

  • haha he's writing a check!

  • I still enjoy my Atari to this day. It's really amazing to see how far games have come when you play an Atari game while your buddy's playing a 360 or PS3 game in the same room.

  • wow, how far we've come...I had an Atari. now, I have a laptop.

  • All my friends but me had one 2600. I'm still pissed today!!

Ok, maybe not (LOL), but still, what a great game console it was!

  • the girls prolly in her late 30's now :P

  • She was probably born around 1977, making her 7 in 1984. That would make her 32.

  • @whattheheck1000 ;o early 30's ;P i was clsoe ;3

  • naaaah, "20s" in spirit probably. early 30s on the calendar.

  • @whattheheck1000 lol xD

  • Then why are you buying one???

"Oh well the video game market just crashed and I can get every game ever made for a penny :D"

  • how is this advert not banned or the man locked up for rape

  • @fitzy545 People had sense back in the 1980s.

  • I got lucky my parents bought a 2600 in 1980, I was born in 1981 so it was waiting there for me as I grew up.

  • remember that Xmas when your parents got u atari system you were the sh%^&$ and all your friends wanted to come over and use it!! =)

  • Old atari 2600 games... so basic and kinda disgusting looking yet.... addictive So primitive but so playable. Awesome console.

  • lol dude TOGGLE SWITCHES are leet XD

  • @N|) Y0u |<n0\/\/ wH@7 7h3y $@y a130u7 1337?

  • 3\/3RY|30DY |&0\/\/5!!!

  • almost 25 years old commercial....

  • very exciting.

  • brilliant was the atari. beats the xbox lol

  • and the ps3 and wii..

  • ah....buying something with cheques! Those were the days!

  • I still have mine too. What scared me is I remember this commercial when it aired!!

  • It's so low, we won't tell you!

  • Hahaha... oddest description for a video ever

  • me to :) i have a woody version with 6 butons on the top

  • Wow, a checkbook. 80's version of Interac

  • Hey it's Corkys dad!! I used to watch Life Goes On back in the 80s

  • I remember the Atari 2600. Literally broke my share of joysticks back then. lol

  • if you don't buy your kid an atari you live in children hell

  • What an honest commercial. "You see this cute little girl over here, she's a spoiled little, me-generation, 80's bitch. Just give me the damn system already so I can shut her up!"

Actually, the kid looks cute. But that is the message.

  • Yeah, pretty much. XD

  • Better than the current, "everybody is a racist, think green, give me ritalin, don't discriminate against me, it's not my fault, blame it on someone else, I want chipotle" generation.

  • @19psi You need to step away form Fox News for a day.

  • @torgman

Yeah, everyone who disagrees with your worldview must watch Fox News or something, right?

  • @MrCorporalTunnel "worldview"---Nice use of ConservaSpeak, there. Maybe you can explain why 19psi makes an inane political comment that has nothing to do with the vid?

  • @torgman

I don't speak for him. Maybe you should ask him. I don't watch Fox News, either and 'Worldview' is a political/social term used by many on all sides of the political/social equation. It's not 'Conservaspeak' like you say, but whatever. I've kept my comments confined to why companies like Atari did business like they do in a free-market system. It isn't Right vs. Left, it just is. Take care.

  • @19psi

Don't forget Ranch Dressing. Just sayin' ;-)

  • Isn't that the actor Bill Smitrovich as the father?

  • i remember that ad, those were the days when you could buy things at a store with a check

  • shes relentless

  • id be like NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSNSS

  • Just sell it already!

  • Not many people were buying Atari 2600s, or *ANY* video game systems (or even many games) in 1984- hence the lower price, the lower budget commercials, etc. I don't think there were any buyers in *1985* though, as this was basically a clearance sale.

  • well before the atari came about in the late 70's came up with the grandstand console

where the games was built in so no carterages

needed then fair enough the graphics was not grand then until the atari was born in the 80's but atari was better though 20/10

  • The best video game system ever. There was no bullshit with it. You played PacMan and Space Invaders and you put vaseline on your hands and played with your joystick. Now it is all crazy shit.

  • I found it best to remove the plastic cap on the joystick. This made it easier to wiggle it quickly, and it was easier on the hands. "Decathlon" caused me to wear out both joysticks in about a 6 month period. I never tried the vaseline thing, but I got calluses after a while so it didn't matter anymore.

  • yes i highly aggree the kids used to save up

all thier pennies at weekends to go to thier nearest videostore to buy the latest game

for atari and have hours of fun on the atari

what great days it was back then 20/10
