After this loss, I said that this game would shape Landry Jones and thats currently happening right now. He's be mentioned as a heisman frontrunner and he's only getting better.
The Sooners should be called the Spooners! Once upon a time Oklahoma looked really good and now with Bob Stoops at the helm well they are more like Oklahomo Spooners instead of Oklahoma Sooners. No, nebraska definately would have lost. Bradford is a much smarter QB than Landry, and as you can see Jones threw 5 INTs this game. He's a young QB, and did terrible in all the away games. I love how announcers play up the "Landry Jones having a bad day" stuff. That just proves that our BLACKSHIRTS are underrated. The truth is that Jones just hasn't played a Bo Pelini Defense before! GBR! and Go Sooners for heavens sake! I love rivalries where you don't have to kick out an entire student section!
In this game we had what 10 penaltys for 100 plus yards that's on the play back to the va tech game 1st and goal at the what 5 three plays or so later 1st and goal at the what 40 u can't do that kind of stuff as a player that kills momentum
it's not watsons fault we have a banged up line and the WRS drop balls that they should catch green is a frosh give him time lee is the better passer and knows the offense better
edoggy6996-You're right, it's not Watson's fault that our wide receivers can't catch a pass, drop, or fumble. However, his play-calling is horrible. I wish we could bring Solich back to be our O-coordinator. He was under Osborne for how many years....
idk if its all that bad it's just the exacution is bad. he does have his moments that make you scatch you're head, but he did show a run play at the goal line (offsides by OU) then play action pass the next play that takes balls. It doesn't help that the QBS stare down there targets, and we all know frank isn't comeing back to the school that fired him (even tho it is a different AD) he's SLOWLY turning around ohio he'll stay there as long as he keeps winning
How great would it be to have BOTH of them back at Nebraska? Getting 5* recruits, how can a kid say no to a group of coaches consisting of Bo Pelini, Carl Pelini, Frank Solich, and Turner Gill? Who can say no to that?! Ya know? I just hate Watson. Solich was a damn good coach. You're right, not a good recruiter but a helluva coach. I still think Tom should step in and say time for Wat-stick to go. He begged Bo to come back, and he did. How could Solich say no to Tom? I think it's worth the try!
although thats a novel idea, there is no way turner would go back to being a QB coach, remember those great QBs jammal lord and joe daley? those were turner gill products, solich didnt make these kids work hard enough and didnt get the level of recruit we needed, when osbornes recruits were gone frank sucked as a coach, thats why he got fired had nothing to do with a 9 win season
Lord really had masterd running the option... passing on the other hand, not so much. he'd have a few good throws down the field here and there, but often was inacurate and inconsistend at throwing. but as far as him running the option, he did it very well.
Jamaal Lord was under rated? that guy was awful. he could run but that was it. he also made a lot of bad decisions when throwing the ball (interception at the goal line vs texas to lose the game.)... and much more. I remember nu fans wanted him out of the starting spot worse than they did with Zac Lee. im a huge husker fan from lincoln myself but lord sucked. and our quarterbacks arent surrounded by talent now, besides helu who is talented on the offense now?
If you know anything about football, you would know the interception against Texas was not Lords fault. Wilson Thomas gave up on his route and didn't drag across the field, therefore Vasher was able to come off him and make the interception. If Thomas runs his route correctly Nebraska very well could have scored a td. The only reason we were in that game is because of Lord
he didnt have to throw the ball we did not need a touchdown on that down, we had plenty of time. he made a bad decision, like he often did when throwing the ball. dont tell me idk about football, he didnt run off his route. and even if he did how would u know? were u n the huddle? his route may have been completed so then maybe he was just trying to get open, n which case if u knew ne thing about football u would know the receiver then tries to get open ne way possible. lord threw it, picked.
god bless ya bro, but if we had a jamaal lord right now we might have a chance against texas, but as it stands, we have Lee, which means we don't have a chance. because we wont be able to match tx in points. period. Our D will hold for a half or so, but then they'll get exhausted from being on the field after one 3&out after another, a QB that could get yards and was a run threat like Lord would be great right now.
And yes Burkhead looked great. . . against CU's front four. . . he wont get those kind of yards against Tx front four. . . dont get me wrong the boy has potential, but lets be real. . . Texas D is hot hot hot right now. The only chance we have of and upset is Texas tendency to be overconfident right now, a weakness ALL undefeated teams have especially after 11 wins straight, or maybe its 10. . . . .
i agree that lord was better than lee, who wouldnt. but i do think we have a chance against texas without a quarterback. it usually takes a little bit but eventually burkhead and helu get going. if our defense can hold texas long enough for these two guys to get rolling i think we have a chance, even if texas knows were going to run. this game is going to have to b a low low low low scoring game if we are going to win though, im talking about like 7 to 3 or 10 to 3. well c if our d can do it.
I'm a Husker fan through and through. Every offense has off years. Even high and mighty USC. I remember a few years ago when people thought Watson was the second coming of Jesus. And last year when we were so dominant on offense everyone loved him. Now we have a down year and it's instantly his fault? Come on Husker fans. Don't judge everyone just because something goes wrong.
we need to look at mike sewak as o-coordinator. hes been working under paul johnson at both georgia southern and georgia tech and runs the triple option offense and look at what it has done at georgia tech in 2 years! the option is what made nebraska unique from other programs and we need to bring it back, pelini has the defense back where it needs to be and now we need the option back! GBR
Okay i agree the offense is not that great but i guess you didnt hear on the radio he couldnt take a Knee he would be too close to the endzone that if one strong push come it would have been a safety. sometimes you need to rad more into things before accuseing him of running the play!!!!!
I respectfully disagree. Zach Lee handed the ball off to a running back who was behind him. Zach could have taken a knee at the 3 yard line, where he was standing rather than turn around to hand the ball off at the 1 yard line. Even if Zach had taken a knee in the end zone, it's only a safety. Handing the ball off could have resulted in a fumble and an OU touchdown and overtime. Somebody was asleep at the wheel. Watson must go!!
shawn watson has consistenly had a top 10 offense over the course of 20 yrs at both colorado and nebraska even during nebraska's terrible 2007 we still had a potent offense... blame the players
Nebraska is in the process of restoring the order!! Pelini is close to turning things around. The defense is lights out great! The kicking game is excellent! One more area to work on-the offense. Once Green and Robinson and Burkhead get in the backfield next year, look out!! By the way, why didn't Watson have Lee take a knee on the last play of the game? He called a running play. What if the ball was fumbled? Nebraska was on their own 4 yard line. What the hell was Watson thinking? Take a knee!
spiderdragon.... Watson needs to go, plain and simple. He calls some of the worst plays. Look what he does on 3rd and 1...while we're doing great running the ball, instead of running it again just to get that 1 yd, he goes for a long bomb pass. Lee can't pass for shit and he knows it. If we have like 3rd and 10 (or more because of loss yardage or penalties), he'll call a running play. It makes no sense. I'm a 25 yr old female and could call better plays than Watson. He needs to go!!!
I was never a Watson fan in the first place and now I'm ready to start a petition to get him fired! Eventually he will cause the Huskers to lose a game that they should win. He probably already has. Not take a knee? WTF! The offense is pathetic and that goes back to Watson and Cotton. I honestly believe that Pelini will fire them after the season is over. Let's hope!! With a decent offense the Huskers could be 8-1 right now. Possibly 9-0. How nice would that be!!
with a decent offense and the way the defense is playing nebraska would be 9-0 no doubt about it..on their way to the big 12 championship where in my opinion, they would beat texas...but the way things are it would be extrememly unlikely for that to happen
You have to remember, Nebraska controls their own destiny. If they beat Kansas State and at least tie with them in the North Division, Nebraska goes to the Big 12 Championship Game. If Nebraska wins out, same result!!
dragon-Watson needs his ass canned! With all our turnovers, that ball could have easily been fumbled. That game still could have gone either way. It looks as though he is intentionally trying to lose? I cannot think of one coach in this country that WOULDN'T take a knee when the game is won. Like kitty below me said, he goes for long passes on short yards needed, and runs the ball when it's like 3rd down and forever. Start a petition to get his ass fired. lol.
I am still beside my self with confusion because Watson called a running play on the Nebraska's 4 yard line to end the game rather than take a knee. Like you said-no coach in this country would do that! That is just terrible coaching!! That game could have been lost on a fumble on that last play! Watson has got to go and I think he will. Cotton has got to go in my opinion. He's been fired from every coaching job he's ever had. That should have told Pelini something.
Holtz says OU had a great defensive performance but their offense wasted it ... nevermind that it couldve been Nebraska playing great defense. ESPN college football analysts are so uninformed and biased its disgusting. Both teams played great D. Nebraska as usual did nothing offensively which isn't hard to stop, but that doesnt take away from the OU defensive effort either.
No it doesnt. But people are missing it. or they are in denial about our D. NU DOMINATED OU defensively, we TOOK the win away from them, we didnt GiVE it to them like these GEEKS are saying. WE slapped them down and got the edge in points. P E R I O D they had no answer for NU.
OU hasn't been denied a TD in some 125+ games STRAIGHT. . . who is the D that finally snapped that streak. . .... . . .. . ... .??????????// B L A C K S H I R T S YYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you're right. I don't think we won on luck...we won because of a dominating defense. They never scored a single TD. Just think if that one FG of theirs missed (because I think it did almost miss) ... woulda been a shutout. All I got to say is other teams are the lucky ones that we have a crappy offense because our defense is scary good!!!!! GO BIG RED!!!!
Landry please come back we love you here im sure we can get you a house in lincoln go big red!!!!!!!!!! and we have the best number 93 SUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHhhhh
After this loss, I said that this game would shape Landry Jones and thats currently happening right now. He's be mentioned as a heisman frontrunner and he's only getting better.

In this game we had what 10 penaltys for 100 plus yards that's on the play back to the va tech game 1st and goal at the what 5 three plays or so later 1st and goal at the what 40 u can't do that kind of stuff as a player that kills momentum
edoggy6996 2 years ago
it's not watsons fault we have a banged up line and the WRS drop balls that they should catch green is a frosh give him time lee is the better passer and knows the offense better
edoggy6996 2 years ago
edoggy6996-You're right, it's not Watson's fault that our wide receivers can't catch a pass, drop, or fumble. However, his play-calling is horrible. I wish we could bring Solich back to be our O-coordinator. He was under Osborne for how many years....
mizzkitty20 2 years ago 2
idk if its all that bad it's just the exacution is bad. he does have his moments that make you scatch you're head, but he did show a run play at the goal line (offsides by OU) then play action pass the next play that takes balls. It doesn't help that the QBS stare down there targets, and we all know frank isn't comeing back to the school that fired him (even tho it is a different AD) he's SLOWLY turning around ohio he'll stay there as long as he keeps winning
edoggy6996 2 years ago
I know he wouldn't come back. I was just throwing that out there ;) I think it'd be great to have Solich back as O-coord.

Lord really had masterd running the option... passing on the other hand, not so much. he'd have a few good throws down the field here and there, but often was inacurate and inconsistend at throwing. but as far as him running the option, he did it very well.
snakebandit 2 years ago

CK68934 2 years ago
he didnt have to throw the ball we did not need a touchdown on that down, we had plenty of time. he made a bad decision, like he often did when throwing the ball. dont tell me idk about football, he didnt run off his route. and even if he did how would u know? were u n the huddle? his route may have been completed so then maybe he was just trying to get open, n which case if u knew ne thing about football u would know the receiver then tries to get open ne way possible. lord threw it, picked.

god bless ya bro, but if we had a jamaal lord right now we might have a chance against texas, but as it stands, we have Lee, which means we don't have a chance. because we wont be able to match tx in points. period. Our D will hold for a half or so, but then they'll get exhausted from being on the field after one 3&out after another, a QB that could get yards and was a run threat like Lord would be great right now.
goooogrrr 2 years ago
And yes Burkhead looked great. . . against CU's front four. . . he wont get those kind of yards against Tx front four. . . dont get me wrong the boy has potential, but lets be real. . . Texas D is hot hot hot right now. The only chance we have of and upset is Texas tendency to be overconfident right now, a weakness ALL undefeated teams have especially after 11 wins straight, or maybe its 10. . . . .
goooogrrr 2 years ago
...? Last game Texas played they gave up 39 points in a shootout. Not much defense was happenin on either side...

i agree that lord was better than lee, who wouldnt. but i do think we have a chance against texas without a quarterback. it usually takes a little bit but eventually burkhead and helu get going. if our defense can hold texas long enough for these two guys to get rolling i think we have a chance, even if texas knows were going to run. this game is going to have to b a low low low low scoring game if we are going to win though, im talking about like 7 to 3 or 10 to 3. well c if our d can do it.

Jamaal Lord would be a gift right now. Hell, he wasn't even originally a QB, but he's much better than Lee.

Don't judge everyone just because something goes wrong.
eternaldeadman 2 years ago
we need to look at mike sewak as o-coordinator. hes been working under paul johnson at both georgia southern and georgia tech and runs the triple option offense and look at what it has done at georgia tech in 2 years! the option is what made nebraska unique from other programs and we need to bring it back, pelini has the defense back where it needs to be and now we need the option back! GBR
RebelfanfromBamaland 2 years ago
Okay i agree the offense is not that great but i guess you didnt hear on the radio he couldnt take a Knee he would be too close to the endzone that if one strong push come it would have been a safety. sometimes you need to rad more into things before accuseing him of running the play!!!!!
sosleapy 2 years ago
I respectfully disagree. Zach Lee handed the ball off to a running back who was behind him. Zach could have taken a knee at the 3 yard line, where he was standing rather than turn around to hand the ball off at the 1 yard line. Even if Zach had taken a knee in the end zone, it's only a safety. Handing the ball off could have resulted in a fumble and an OU touchdown and overtime. Somebody was asleep at the wheel. Watson must go!!
spiderdragon1969 2 years ago
shawn watson has consistenly had a top 10 offense over the course of 20 yrs at both colorado and nebraska even during nebraska's terrible 2007 we still had a potent offense... blame the players
SWiTCHANiMATiON 2 years ago
Whether it's Watson's fault or not won't stop Pelini from firing him at the end of the season. And that will happen. Just watch.
spiderdragon1969 2 years ago
Nebraska is in the process of restoring the order!! Pelini is close to turning things around. The defense is lights out great! The kicking game is excellent! One more area to work on-the offense. Once Green and Robinson and Burkhead get in the backfield next year, look out!! By the way, why didn't Watson have Lee take a knee on the last play of the game? He called a running play. What if the ball was fumbled? Nebraska was on their own 4 yard line. What the hell was Watson thinking? Take a knee!
spiderdragon1969 2 years ago 4
spiderdragon.... He needs to go!!!
mizzkitty20 2 years ago 4
I was never a Watson fan in the first place and now I'm ready to start a petition to get him fired! Eventually he will cause the Huskers to lose a game that they should win. He probably already has. Not take a knee? WTF! The offense is pathetic and that goes back to Watson and Cotton. I honestly believe that Pelini will fire them after the season is over. Let's hope!! With a decent offense the Huskers could be 8-1 right now. Possibly 9-0. How nice would that be!!
spiderdragon1969 2 years ago
with a decent offense and the way the defense is playing nebraska would be 9-0 no doubt about it..on their way to the big 12 championship where in my opinion, they would beat texas...but the way things are it would be extrememly unlikely for that to happen
drewbrown68 2 years ago

Start a petition to get his ass fired. lol.
TrueToTheCoreHusker 2 years ago 3

Nebraska as usual did nothing offensively which isn't hard to stop, but that doesnt take away from the OU defensive effort either.
lilwienst 2 years ago 7
No it doesnt. But people are missing it. or they are in denial about our D. NU DOMINATED OU defensively, we TOOK the win away from them, we didnt GiVE it to them like these GEEKS are saying. WE slapped them down and got the edge in points. P E R I O D they had no answer for NU.
