Yes sir, it is really at hougang. In fact, the huge size of the turnout is characteristic of some of the opposition parties' rallies. I urge you to attend one, if you haven't done so already.
I have witnessed their capacity for courage and though we are constituencies apart, like us, there's more issues then meets the eye. I am optimus prime and I send this message to any Singaporeans who believe in change and want their voices heard. We are here, we are ready.
Singapore must thereby go through this transition to ensure real harmony and progress for the nation. There is no point for so many voices of disgruntled groups not being addressed with parties continue to tear each other apart. However, each party must admit their shortcomings and harness their strengths together to create a New Singapore is really stable and secure to earn respect in the hearts and minds of citizens.
Singapore’s current state of development is Unique and unlike TW, UK, US, Thailand etc. whereby parties fight along either racial lines, upper vs lower classes, Peace vs War, Dependence vs Independence, Singapore has the potential to actually make a Two-Party system work consisting of PAP and Opposition Coalition cooperating together to benefit Singapore through a compromise. PAP can focus on growing the economy while the Coalition work on social issues for more harmony in society.
I almost cried when I see mr chiam in the video.. He has grown so old and he's still fighting for Singaporean.. And I really wonder what are Singaporean thinking now..
Other peoples comment are so not touching but he's one..
When he doing walkabout.. Others can walk normally.. He barely moves and when he's talking on stage.. He crouches.. Oh my..
If only both extremists fighter, MM Lee for Pragmatism and JB Jeyaretnam for Human Rights had somehow managed to come to a compromise by giving each other half of what they are fighting for, it would have resulted in a more well-balanced society. That’s the danger of the current one party dominant state that Must Be Fought At All Costs to create this Balance which is so achingly required in parliament.
@iareflying That's because of the fear factor that the PAP has instilled in Singaporeans over the past 50 years. Once again, a clear sign of a ruling party that will resort to any and all means to retain its power. If they had listened to Singaporeans and addressed our concerns, they need not fear the Opposition, and shift the goal posts at every election. Well, here's a heads-up: Singaporeans are no longer ignorant or fearful. The time for change is NOW.
It is true that the PAP has failed in many ways. But has the Opposition tried? What if we become worse off? Change for the sake of change, is meaningless. What has the Opposition done to secure your confidence? With emotionally-charged speeches and finger pointing rallies? Of course the Opposition would appear all nice, humble and sweet at this time, as compared to the haughty PAP, they want your damn votes and they know that that's the only way they can triumph over PAP - by appearing to have
@iareflying The question can be turned around, what if we would have been better off 5 years ago had we voted for the Opposition? Of course things may work out, or they may not. The PAP has had its chance and failed, it is time for others to step up to the plate. The Opposition has demonstrated its understanding of the issues close to Singaporean's hearts. The PAP, on the other hand, has demonstrated its overriding objective to protect its own wealth and power. My damn vote is obvious.
@mutant81 The PAP has not failed in ALL aspects. While most countries are still suffering the after-shocks of the recession, our country has bounced back with a high recovery of 14% GDP growth rate last year. Sure, there are bound to be loopholes and such, but we definitely cannot say they have failed in all aspects. However, I do agree that the Opposition has indeed "demonstrated its understanding of the issues close to Singaporean's hearts"
@iareflying you never give them a chance how they try? is because attitude like you that are scare of failure that we are in current situation. success comes only if we dare to try and if we dare to fail. you are brainwashed too much by our education system that makes you dare not to try and step out of your comfort zone. this is very very attitude which is why singapore will never have much great bizman and nobel prize winner. WHY? cause ATTITUDE LIKE YOURS THAT SCARE TO FAIL AND SCARE TO TRY.
@vamjok Your english grammar is flawed. Please do not hurl personal insults at me. It is scareD. Why why, I think you're just trying to be gung-ho. I am not afraid at all. In fact, I very much respect the various Opposition parties that have stepped up. Such as the Worker's Party's A Team is extremely impressive, as well as Nicole Seah. I have not been brainwashed. Unlike you, I simply have the ability to have a balanced judgement. That is all.
@flyingsconess carry on bombardment of english on net as if i give a fark. IN REALITY YOU ARE JUST LIKE THE MAJORITY OF THE SHEEP THAT ARE SCARE TO STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND CHANGED. typical product of our useless education system that think we can "TEACH" creativity using a system. hopeless
Actually. we are too dependent on government all these years. So let change your mindset and think like a manager instead of an average Singaporean, think how they can really improve your business if they are your workers in the next 5 years, who will cause you to spend another millions dollar when you cannot afford to?
my servant tells me wat i can and cannot do, decide how much he earns, give himself 30 months bonus, threatens me if i want to change another servant, gets me arrested when i protest abt his wrong doing, brings in huge number of foreigners into my home and get my job. U THINK I STILL WANT TO KEEP THIS SERVANT?
Suddenly I feel very scared to vote! It is my first time voting this year.
1. All the issues that the oppositions have brought out, are very much true and I can relate to them.
2. BUT the PAP has done a good job thus far, isnt it true that all govt or management would have a few loop holes
3. What if Singapore were to land in the hands of oppositions? What would happen? What happen if Singapore becomes worst off? What if the issues that they mentioned are solved but other greater issues ar
1. It's good to know that most of these people are ordinary Singaporeans like us. When they can relate to our problems, they will be better able to think in a way that benefits us first and foremost.
2. We can excuse hiccups, but long term policies that they claim to be good take time to slowly infiltrate our lives, affecting us in small but significant ways (overcrowding, jobs, inflation, healthcare etc).
3. There will always be the die-hard "silent majority" voting for PAP...
"Only the SDP cares for you and is willing to speak up for you in Parliament"
That, or carry on his tactics of civil disobedience.
I choose neither, because I believe that only the WP & SPP have more stable proposals, for change that happens too rapidly serves only to destroy the country. Vote wisely! But if it comes to choosing between PAP & a questionable party, I'd still vote PAP.
@LegendarySlacker PAP now is questionable. Singaporeans are fed up for a reason. in this case several reason. LKY said tt aljunied will regret voting for WP. But it could really mean the same if you vote for PAP. TBH i have not decided who i'm gonna vote for, but it kinda piss me off to think that someone like TPL will have paid so highly if they win in my GRC.
@yingmujielun To be fair - both Nicole and TPL rate pretty low in my view - Nicole has so far only managed to shout out her views of where the government has gone wrong - but what we need is a problem solver, not a loudhailer. TPL at least has made a proposal to install energy saving lightbulbs for the needy - not very brilliant, but a start nonetheless.
WHEN THE PEOPLE FEAR PAP, THERE WILL BE TYRANNY.. WHEN PAP FEAR THE PEOPLE, THERE WILL BE LIBERTY!! One People, One Nation, One Singapore! Vote for Singaporeans, Vote for Change!
Never in Singapore’s Election history has there been a time whereby electorates are left with So Little Excuses Not to Vote for The Opposition Coalition to ensure citizen’s stake in the country is parked in a diversified portfolio of investments to secure their future. Continue to vote for pap, and change our national pledge:
We the peasants of Singapore
Pledge ourselves as one united slaves
Regardless of race, language or religion
To build an autocratic PAP
Based on elitism, nepotism and legalized corruption
So as to achieve happiness, properity
and progress for the Lee Dynasty
Do what is right for our country, fellow Singaporeans.
