If memory serves me correct, the very last episode of this show aired just after the big New York Blackout which started around 9:15 pm Wednesday. I got my power back around 4:00 pm the next day (Thursday Afternoon).
This theme was also used for Bill Cullen's summer '76 run of "Secret" ? Wild.
BTW - Does anyone recall Charles Nelson Reilly on the '76 "Secret" staging "Yankee Doodle Dandy" using real people's names? "Eimer Yanky Tootle Dundee, Yanky Tootle Dewar Dye..."
I was a freshman in college when this show was on -- I would schedule my classes around this game whenever possible (timeshifting was not possible back then) -- fell in love with this show because of this theme and that flashy open.
I did not -- that's what I meant by "timeshifting was not possible back then". VCRs were PROHIBTIVELY expensive and digital wasn't even a gleam in someone's eye. I wish I could have.
Yes, VCRS were extremely expensive. My grandfathers U-Matic by sony, he bought in 1967, cost $3599 back then. Today, its over $20,000! He had to get 2 loans to pay for it, then the tapes cost somwehre around $50 for a 5 hour tape, which was the longest he could find.
Maybe because it was using technology that was expensive for the big studios, and Sony tried to fit it all in one little box. Thats why its expensive.
The theme song heard here is an amazing one to say the least. It conveys a fun atmosphere where contestants are playing an unpredictable game. As exciting as its successor show's theme was, this theme was good in it self. It's based on the catchyness & the fact we keep it in our heads for the hours to come. It's a 5 star theme by the way because of the fact that it fits in with everthing; the set, game, & atmosphere. It could have ben a successful show but it wasant; proven false years later.
They used this on IGAS? Wow, seems weird for that kind of show.

Didn't Australia use this for their version of Family Feud, or is that a misprint?

They used something that sounds similar to it.

Why are the U-matics so expensive? Even today?

Oh yeah! Awesome 'clearer' and longer version of this theme! Love the wah-wah and the groovy bass lines.
