It's an interesting thought but CO2 is a no go. even regulated I think it would carbonate the fuel and best case scenario put out the flame instantly. worst case.... Well I don't even want to think about it...

I've wondered about that myself.

Long answer: best I can figure it's 50/50 if the tank did rupture the fuel would be flung everywhere. Since the nitrogen would dissipate almost instantly I'd still be left coated with fuel which would probably turn out pretty badly.

Short answer: I'm not going to try it and find out. :)

i was thinking instead of nitrogen you could use dry ice, just dont put in too much, it would add the safety of having a non oxidizer in the tank and it would also self pressurize, just dont put too much or it will explode

I think I've gone over this a few times... I'm not using strait gasoline. I've toned down the volatility of the fuel quite a bit.. Plus, and listen close... I'm using nitrogen in the tank.. There isn't an oxidizer in the tank that will allow for an explosion short of a tank rupture.

An easy solution is to use propane as a propellant. It doesn't put out the flame, and it doesn't allow for any sort of fuel mixture in the pressure chamber.
