Hello my name is Kieran and I'm really interested in breeding ball pythons, I have a female common ball python and I was wondering if u can inbox me on any tips on cross breeding my python.
My ball python courted when her weight was 1300g. After that, I could see very clearly there were 4 eggs in her. But more than a month later after shedding, her body seems shrinking, has appetite(ate 2 mice), and no eggs are laid. Does it mean the eggs have failed? Will she absorb them or pass them out?
@105548 well first of the proper breeding weight is 1500 grams i breed ball pythons sandboas and i am starting to get into corn snakes and i usualy breed mine at 1550-1650 grams so ive never had that proplem so take her to a vet or breeder
Congrats! I know what you mean. I just got a clutch 9 eggs super vanilla mojave x pastel. 5 vanilla pastaves! 2 vanilla mojaves 1 pastel mojave and 1 vanilla.
Wait, how can a baby inherit both genes from just one parent? Doesn't it have to get 1 from each? Wouldn't the pastave parent give half the babies a Mojave gene and the other half a pastel gene, and the normal parent give each baby a normal gene? If it got both genes from one parent, what happened to the normal parents genes? Normal isn't recessive?
@ClassyHerps they are two separate genes. pastel and mojave have nothing to do with eachother...think of it as hair color and eye color (i know these are very different) but just think of them as not connected in anyway
@SnakesareDeaf Yeah I get that. But Say the father has brown hair and brown eyes, mother has blonde hair blue eyes. Say they have 9 kids ( like this clutch) How can 7 of the kids have brown hair and brown eyes, what happened to the mothers blonde hair and eyes? Because each child receives genes from each parent. How can 1 get both from the dad. The mom's genes just go away completely?
Wouldn't they have to have blond hair/brown eyes or brown hair/blue eyes?
@ClassyHerps ok well for one these are what are called co dominant genes, meaning you either have them, or you don't. The parents mojave for instance has for example a Mm genotype (meaning it has a mojave trait, and a normal trait) the means it can pass along a mojave trait, or a normal trait making the offspring either mojaves or normals...the pastel can do the same with the pastel trait. making them either pastels or normals...when a snake receives both a normal trait from mom and dad
it will come out normal. when it receives a pastel trait from dad and a mojave trait from mom, it comes out as a pastave. when you flip a coin you have a 50% chance of getting heads, and 50% chance of getting tails...when you flip a coin 50 times i can almost guarantee you will not get 25 heads and 25 tails...chance doesnt work out perfectly so you can have a 7/9 pastave clutch. it does work on a punnet square, quite nicely actually, you are just not seeing them as the separate events they are.
@SnakesareDeaf THANK YOU...someone else that actually understands genetics...too many folks are giving out the wrong genetics info for snake egg hatching. each egg is an independent event and you're calculating the odds per egg, not of the whole clutch.
Beautiful snakes..... horrible name. Am I the only one who wants to slap Wes everytime someone says pastave? lol. Nice snakes Garrick and love your videos.
Great clutch it seems like alot of people are beating the odds this season. I love your videos ive been watching your channel for years and really apreciate all the stuff you and the other big time people like ralph and brian show the rest of us just starting in the hobby.

That doesn't work on a punnet square.
