I would say that in this case, he really isn't violating any copyright laws. He's merely displayed a video of himself playing along with a recording that has already been released to the public. He in no way has taken ownership of the original recording... and really it's no different than any of the thousands of videos where people do their own variation of a song while the original song plays in the background for filler.

Great work on the set. The drums fill in the beat nicely.

@nervon Copyrights mean nothing when it comes to covers. When you're doing a cover of a song as an independent artist, copyrights are not needed. Now if he was a professional who was selling CD's in stores with that song, yes, then there are legalities he'd need to go through before making any money off those songs. But both "boyceavenue" and "ervey105" are totally fine with posting a cover of a song on Youtube.

Because it was posted openly on a public access, unsponsored web page, it falls under the creative commons license. He can do this, its just like going to an open mic and doing it. He makes no profit off of it either so there are absolutely no legal issues.
