This is a beautiful and romantic and classical masterpiece by Claude Debussy. It is full of harmony and love. I wish you a nice weekend harmonious. Gabriele!
man only if there were originals by him recorded .... then id be 110% wowed :D ...man his music is too beautiful i could only imagine him playing it ..how flawless it must have sounded since it was his music... oh man only if i lived in those times id love it :)
I think also good to learn the timing. I can't figure out what people do with measure six. It seems they are arpeggio(ing), but it looks like you are suppose to hit all the notes at once, and my fingers make it hard stretch.
I really adore "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" by Claude Debussy, and although I don't like still photos with music, there us something special about the one you have on here.
Thank you for posting it.. added to favourites. xx
@MadameClassique -I really love this piece as well.I'm no expert on this kind of music but I do enjoy Debussy and some of his contemporaries.Have you heard Gabriel Faure's Sicilienne Op 78? It's very nice.Another one I really love is "Gymnopedie" by Erik Satie. These works both share that calm sense of reflection and grace."The Girl With the Flaxen Hair" is exquisite however.
@bluesborn Yes! I love both those pieces! Though neither of them match "La fille aux cheveux de lin" in its beauty of contemplation and tranquility for me. I actually wrote my own Gymnopedie last year! Have you heard Debussy's "Reverie"? That's another favourite of mine from him. I've found it interesting to listen to movie music, seeing how much influence Debussy and impressionist musicians have had on that genre. It's quite amazing, really!
@MadameClassique I understand your devotion to this particular song.Sometimes we hear something that strikes a chord deep inside that resonates with lost memories and forgotten emotions.Words become useless and inadequate.I feel the same way about certain compositions by Debussy and others, although as I've stated Debussy for me is at the pinnacle of my appreciation of European Music.(I will continue below)
You mentioned the word "Impressionist" which is the movement I always naturally assumed Debussy belonged to.I have read however that he deeply resented the term and thought of himself as part of the Symbolist art movement,a subject I will admit to knowing very little about other than a passing interest in the works of Gustave Moreau.
@bluesborn I'm not an avid fan of Debussy, but there are certain pieces of his that resonate with me. I'm afraid I tend to prefer (and know a lot more about) composers like Handel, Vivaldi and Mozart. I do love Mendelssohn though. Nothing like personal preference to give the world spice and variety, eh? ;)
@bluesborn Yes, musicologists often class him as an impressionist, although he himself disliked the term. There is certainly something impressionistic about his music, but it is a very controversial topic, which is why I tend to name him separately from "impressionists" as a whole, to avoid argument. I didn't know he regarded himself as a symbolist, though. That is interesting. (to be continued ;)...)
my comment was deleted and i dont really remember what i had written.
but definitely not, i wouldnt write anything insultive. firstly, im not that kind of person and secondly, why would i do it when such great music is playing in the background? :)
There are a lot of music to listen, but there is too a few to feel and I think this piece is one of that

What kind of piano is this? It has a nice softness to the high notes.

@cuddledorky there are recordings - there's one of him doing claire de lune. But he rushes it imho, maybe to get the whole thing on the cylinder

I have to say that I love this piece. It has to be my favourite of Debussy's. I've searched, but I can't find anything quite like it.

This piece of music conjures up in my mind the images of another Claude, those of the painter Claude Lorrain...
