  • your brilliant keep it up you have a lot of ornemantation and rolls in there well done!!!!!!!!!

  • I wish all the guys at my school would quit calling me gay because I'm a male flute player, they need to understand that males make some of the best flute players, I mean look at this guy, Ian Andersan (I think thats how you spell his name), look at my flute buddy Chris Rodier, and look at me, I'm pretty good for a freshman.....

  • @KingFire2112 Don't mind idiots.

  • @KingFire2112 Lived through the same dude; as soon as you get playing in a band or two and people realise that "Hey, having a talent that can also make you some cash would be awesome!" they shut the hell up =)

  • BEATIFULL!!

  • listen flute very fun

  • Seamus Egan! yay this is correct just "Emily's Reel"... I guess it is taken from a Tutorial CD I saw once ago... thanx for sharing ♫♪♫►

  • @stickey794COD uuuhhh....

  • I'm speechless.......!

  • he play it so good thats beautiful sound just love it

  • i have been playing the traditional concert flute for about 11 years, and own a wooden flute like this one... but I can't seem to learn how to play it. I'm guessing the fingerings are very quite different... also..the holes are so far apart, so much more than a traditional metal flute, i find it hard to land my fingers in the correct position. i really want to learn how to play it though!

  • @MoreThanJustSkinDeep

I can't advice you about the blowing, because I'm a whistler, but I know the problem of the distance of the holes....

you just have to learn the Piper's Grip... google it :D that's not difficult once learnt

  • I love the sound, I play the "normal" flute now, but next year i'm going to learn this one, i hope i'll be one day as good as he is :)

  • @PekesStoemp There are many dozens of flute types...which one do you think is "normal"? The wooden Irish style of flute is what seems "normal" to me :)

  • @sciamhach Same, besides most of the time Silver Flutes just don't get that robust tone you want

  • Would you mind to tell me where i can get this flute? :)

  • @kadechan that appears to be a patrick olwell flute. he doesnt have a website and you have to call him directly. also there is currently about a 5 year wait list.

  • do all of the large irish flutes have far spacing between the finger holes? I had to return a low whistle that I bought because my fingers couldn't reach.

  • @zusammenwirtanzn Yes. You can find some makers that make the holes smaller and closer together, but the flute will be quieter. Some makers specialize in ergonomics to make it more comfortable.

  • @zusammenwirtanzn Be careful ...get advice buying a flute ...if the holes are changed around it may also affect tuning., range and tone ...also the instruments capacity to project. A poor instrument can be a costly mistake.

  • Tone ?

  • I love this so much. It is well done. I am a fellow musician and I am looking for a flute like that. If anyone can help direct me to finding a not so expensive Irish flute it would help. I show much interest and I really want to start learning right away!

  • 21 negative comments? WHY?

  • Emily's Reel Written by Otis THomas in Cape breton

  • Awesome!

  • damn, i can't play this song even close to this fast D:

  • I play a normal flute but I've always wanted to try the Irish Flute does anyone know which is a good one to learn on?

  • @sparky21737 Get a bit of advice ...there are plenty of new makers around ....you may want to get an 8 key model ..which will not be cheap.

  • @Lisnageeragh Thanks :) I'll look around for one..

  • @sparky21737 Just to note that an 8 key might run to over Euro3,0000. Get the loan of one if you can!

  • Hi. Great playing. Can you tell me what kind of flute it is you're playing?

  • @OneClickEmma Brown.

  • great..

  • its my dream to play a flute...hope to do so..

  • thumbs up!!

  • Dude, that was really good! by appearances you do that so effortlessly,

I'm impressed, thanks! Berig, Rochester, NY

  • It's Emma's Reel. There's somewhere in the world a flute tutorial by Séamus Egan which is not on sale anymore.

    Beautiful stuff!

  • Great!

  • Now some Irish Folks clapping to the sound : D

And all are like "HEY HEY HEY" and all drinkin Irish Whiskey.

    :D

  • @Vo0oDo0oFrosch Something I'm so sick and tired to ear that us Irish spend all our time drinking and fighting... Make me thirsty and willing to hit someone in the face ^^

  • @Gendall82 Yeah, that's an unfair stereotype: the Irish to not spend ALL of their time drinking. A great deal of the time they're at the Betty Ford Clinic.

  • Great playing from Seamus. For those of you asking about the tune name, it is indeed "Emily's Reel" by Cape Breton fiddler and musician Otis Thomas. Just so you fiddlers know, Seamus has modified the tune quite a bit to fit the flute and his style. The flute is a 5-key, cocus wood, NICHOLSON (not Pratten) design flute by Virgina maker Patrick Olwell. Best,

    Zac

  • Great work!!! The timbre of the instrument is incredible!!

  • the king of irish flute

  • is this a keyless flute? if so what are those fancy things near the holes?

  • @TheCherokeeboy ha here u are again, yes it is keyed but i never use them on my own flute and either do lots of players .they seem a good idea at the time but you can perfect the the sharp and flat notes by cross fingering and half covering the holes.

  • @bossh0ss hi bossshoss, great news: i got a flute for 40 bucks. however, it's kinda long for me so my goal now is to make my fingers a bit longer. beside that everything is good. do you have any tips on flute tuning? and after i'm done playing should i take it apart or just leave it like that? (i usually play for hours, so the flute is kinda soaked)

  • can i know, who is this guy what his name ?

    god bless hem

  • this dude is a wizard! respect!

  • great? i like this. thank you

  • that was perfect

  • I'm an intermediate wooden flute player and seeing this both inspires me an frustrates me. Back to practicing. On a side note: great hair!

  • great !!

    bravo .

  • Very good

  • Haaaaaaa..... Always wanted to learn how to play....

  • I am curious. How much does this kind of flute differ from a normal flute except from the fact of being made of wood? Is the manner of playing very different from the normal flute?

  • @Faucharde it differs alot particually if the flute has keys like this one they are in the key of d so the main difference is that you are using the keys to play your natual and flat notes it takes some getting used to but is definitley worth it with some perserverance i play both and when i switch back to my classical i go to play f# but instead am play f naturals things like that check out mcgee flutes he has a fingering chart on his website

  • @Faucharde I play trad on a silver 'orchestral' flute. i learned ornanmentation from players of simple system wooden instruments and adapted them to suit the instrument.

Tone wise - if you listen closely and often enough to the sound of the wooden flute i reckon your tone on the silver flute will naturally move closer to that of the wooden flute. It's all abut listening and very very close emulation initially, then you will find you own way. That's what happened with me. Have fun!! xxx

  • Okay thanks for your extensive responses. So if I get it right the ornamentations differ and the key may also be different but not always.

  • seo ea iontach

  • Nice Flute playing . Go Hiontach ar fad , I played with Larry Nugent . He is one of the best around . Keep up the great playing . Agus Beannacht dia lat - Gracias --- muy bien ---- slan ---pat

  • it is great, so intense that made me an headache.. but stills a great musician..

after all this "lung work", he might be stoned.. ^^'

  • that *thing* IS a flute. *sigh*

  • :D:D

  • @paulikno1

Not called a 'wood' wind instrument for nothing :P

  • right :P

  • @paulikno1 lol

  • @paulikno1

it IS a type of flute. wind pipe or something like that i think. But some people say it is a normal flute.

  • Amazing...bravo!!!

  • muy bueno!

  • Also a great banjo player

  • Fantastic!!!

  • very niece work & exceptionnal musician.if you have any time please feel free to check out my videos under "bruce corian" thanks & keep up the great work.

  • beautiful. is it too late to learn the flute? i stopped trying to play the fiddle out of respect for mankind!

  • It's never too late!

  • @Pippitypopify : You could probably learn in under a year. But, you'll spend the next 30 or so years trying to perfect it.

  • @Pippitypopify start with a penny whistle first or a low d whistle the fingering is the same

  • @Pippitypopify No! :)

  • @Pippitypopify Of course it's not too late!

But it is easier to learn the flute if you play the pennywhistle first. It has the same fingering as most Irish flutes, and it often costs less than six bucks. It's also very easy to learn.

  • Really Gooood!!!!

  • Really Perfect! 5*

  • id love to play like that

  • Great Playing Seamus!

  • And they don't beat people with usernames ''MrMan TITS''?

  • Im one from saudi !!!

    slaaaam !! :D

  • Awesome!! ok... at 1:31 how the hell does he play that trill?? his fingers dont look like they even move when he makes that sound.. so good

  • I don't know but if you find the solution, I'm interested too !

  • he played a D cran..like a triplet only its 4 note in the time of 3..i think..something like dat neway..basically when ur play D lift ur 3rd finder(covering the G hole) for a slit second, then you 5th finger(E hole) and the 3rd finger again...hard to explain-DgDeDgD...kinda tricky but once you get the hang of it tis savage ornamentation..theres surley a video on this yoke to explain it better...hope it helps neway..

  • I agree, it's a cran, but it appears the first finger is also involved, like maybe DgDfDeD.

  • yes, it's a cran. quickly and slightly lift of the 3 and 4th fingers progressively. eh... that's a really over-simplified explanation, but it will give you the idea.

  • its a D cran done to perfection

  • wow.. simply wow i am going to be as good as him one day

  • Bravo ! Excellent ! One of the best I've heard !!!

  • wow

  • marvelous musician

  • Grrrrrreat!

  • Could this be played on a orchestral flute? I play flute and would LOVE to try and play this song. Its beautiful.

  • Sure, why not....

Most irish reels and jigs are in D-major and the lowest note is the d, so that u can play them with a tin whistle as well. all in all it one can say that you can play them on a fute (traverse) as well :)

  • i play both you could do most of this on the orchestral flute but where you would fall into problems is with the ornamentation due the keys lifting up and creating odd sounds ornamentation on the classical flute will need to be done classically

  • actually u cant do it on recorder because a recorder has an extremely limited range of notes

  • Actually, the recorder can play from the low C all the way to E three octaves higher, sharps and flats. In fact, one can go higher with the right fingerings and control... and when one isn't playing a plastic dollar store recorder....

That being said, playing this here would be really difficult on a recorder because the fingering is forked and all, I've tried... Personally, I prefer this instrument more, though.

  • I am pretty sure that it is an Olwell flute, made out of Cocus wood.

  • He must have iron lungs ! lol

  • Awesome performance !!!

  • I love this. I play the flute and I would love to play like this. Plus i'm Irish and it reminds me of Irish music.

  • Sure you could. You could even sound like him on the recorder with about 30 years of diligent practice - 8 hours a day should do it.

  • What incredible hair!

  • Amazing dude!

  • Lovely!

  • sound like mennähän kylähän tapethan kaikhen salute north karelia

  • i like this its heart warming what a nice tune and a good player well done xxxxxx

  • what's the make of this flute? or does anyone have any recommendations for keyless irish flutes in the 300-600 dollar range?

  • I have a beautiful wooden flute for sale for $600 ... drop me a line via my profile if you're interested.

  • that was awsome

  • sounds like the mason's apron

  • I am fairly new to YouTube but I feel that I am not alone in being appalled by some of the behaviour in these comment sections. The management should have proper enforceable standards in place. Polite criticism is fine, but no performer, or other contributor, should have to endure scurrilous abuse from ignorant degenerates. It seems to me to be doubly unfair when the video in question is not uploaded by the performer but by someone else, probably acting without permission.

  • don't take people on youtube too seriously or you will go insane. that actually goes for pretty much everyone online. just enjoy the video and if you can't simply move on. it's truly that simple!

  • You would find that the people who leave rude comments wouldn't dare say something like that face to face.

  • i love it! i am irish and i play the flute so this is soo cool!

  • You must admit, this is music at its best, haunting and beautiful!!

  • So what? What does that have to do with anything?

  • This is perfect. Well almost, he did miss his first triplet. But still, this performance really comes close to perfection...

  • You must be a classical player. It's about the music, man.

  • Im really sorry but he reminds me of the guy who played golum in the lord of the rings when he was normal. Sure someone will be offended but thats who he reminds me of.

  • This guy is amazing! Seamus Egan is so talented. This is played with such enthusiam and emotion. Keep it up Seamus xxxx

  • play a man an irish song and you shall give him delight for the night, though teach him how and he just might offer you a cow.

    (Old Irish saying)

  • i am a champion irish dancer, and our music that is played in dance class SUCKS compared to this awesome flute music. i'm not sure who else irish dances, but at feisanna and other dance events, they play the corniest dance music (that has a set beat per minute) .. i don't know, it's just like a keyboard, accordion and synthesizer. the irish dance world needs to have a revolution and start playing TRADITIONAL irish music. then not so many kids would quit dance.

  • I totally agree. We need more of the likes of Seamus Egan to Josie Mcdermott!

  • Amazing. I wish he would play more flute when he tours with Solas.

  • IS WONDERFUL!! I´m spanish and this summer i´going to Ireland wiht a family ^^ in Derry, IS FANTASTIC!!

  • I LOVE IT!!!

  • wow this is long

  • Dear Kakera,

This sounds like the Tam Lin Reel, and a wonderful version of it it is :)

  • Comment removed

  • It's called Emily's Reel, composed by Otis Thomas.

  • Good video, Celtic music and culture should have more diffusion. After all, culture is what gives us real identity.

  • It's not Celtic -- it's Irish. 'Irish' means something; 'Celtic' doesn't, unless you're talking about a large family od languages.

  • The root of it is Celtic.

  • The root of the Irish language is Celtic. The root of the Irish music is Irish culture and tradition. Look up 'Celtic' in an encyclopedia, or anywhere else other than liner notes to commercial recordings (written by pepople who neither know better nor care.

  • i love irish music

    im 75% irish

i love looking at my familys music

  • Imagine what he could do if he were sober! Just Kidding. Great job.

  • I just spent the last hour playing Solas CD's for my childern (age 4 and 6). After putting them to bed I pulled up my favorite Seamus Egan video. This guy is so talented!

  • Irish Music Is Beautiful .. Iam Proud 2 Be Irish .. xXx

  • I'm english but it is my fave music. Irish music is the best! x

  • Yup itz soo cool .. lol .. xXx

  • Cool! Nice sounds! Good luck! I wish I could see more of your videos

  • wow.....i'd need at least 20 fingers before i even attempted that :)
