I love that you put this up, man. Thanks, brutha. Just like some others on here, I have this same copy on VHS that I bought at a Star Trek Convention in 1994. It's not the best translation, but some of those voices are great, especially Minmay, and Major Focker's--the best! My old buddies still do the Zentradi 'Microhuman' imitation when we visit, haha.
I actually enjoyed this dub very much. There voices sounded alot more natural and not like american dubs where they are making retarded childish voices.
terribly dubbed as this version is, Macross doesnt seem right any other way. it has a certain charm this way. i used to have that tape and i miss it dearly
1:18 cracks me up! You really should just get the subtitled version of this movie. Plus it has all the missing footage that was taken out to render "Clash of the bionoids" more kid friendly.
jose. i went to anime 2010 in la n no DRYL on dvd. sign me up for a copy. i know there is a spanish track with mexican actors. it will make me very happy if u include me. misa/lisa looks very sexy in this movie. greetings from El Monte, CA
I have this exact english dubbed version on SVHS bought back in the mid 90's from a comic convention in LA. Do you know if this version is available on DVD? and is enhanced?
AFAIK, the dub's not available anywhere but on tape. Whenever I get my re-authoring of this film done (the subs are the bottleneck right now), I may offer an ac3 of the English track, depending on how well it syncs up with the import DVDs out there.
right on, so u go from bad kung fu dubs to bad anime dubs. LoL!!! good times had by us all indeed. and i can actually agree with the aliens, i'm still confused about the female species itself. LoL!!!
I've always wanted to see this version of macross, the "fail" version. However, I find it utmost hilarious. If they had put it as a voice-sync parody, it would be a great :D.
@JoseBronxRican Correct. It was most probably either Corporate Communications, Ltd. (the most common company dubbing HK and Japanese movies in the day), or its offshoot since the 80s, Omni Productions.

The Zentradi who speaks at 01:19 sounds almost the same as Marik Yami from "Yu- Gi-Oh The Abridged Series".

To be completely fair, some of the acting in the original Japanese version wasn't exactly Oscar-worthy. It was certainly better than this, of course.

Say what you like about Robotech; at least it was better-dubbed than this!

*FOCKER gets his COCKpit fisted* Hikaru: "MINMAYYYYY!" WTF?!?!
LOL. I'm so glad I watched "DYRL" first instead of torturing myself to watch the full length version of "clash of the bionoids."

This is like the Big Green dub of DBZ

@Kitsuneranger
You insult the Big Green Dub by comparing it to this horrible thing. Oh, that dub was bad, but it wasn't THIS bad.
zvermilyer3 8 months ago
My only complaint is that there is a serious lack of Ted Thomas in this dub.

----ing brilliant! I had this version on VHS around 94/95 when I was going through my Manga phase in my teens. Haha Cool memories thx! :D

Zentradi were right.
Yes, humming voice can be a weapon.
Although I dare say I like this minmay who's probably not good at lying and faking.

Wow I forgot how bad the dubbing was. Every line in this dub can be considered an epic fail...which is why it will always be a classic.

The English dub shows how dubbing should never be done: bad or monotone voice-acting.

Bang-up job on cleaning up the audio for the .ac3 you put up. Surprised you were able to squeeze out that kind of quality for something like this.

Well, this was a special case as I said, so I'm not doing any more animes, although It's very tempting to gather Focker's lines from that fandub. :)

What accents are these? Australian?
And what wooden voice acting! So bad, it's actually funny.
And the blatant sexism is so offensive it's hysterical!
