There's nothing wrong w/ McFly, and I'm glad a new generation of listeners will hopefully come to appreciate Jellyfish because of this song. There really is no comparison. WRT the "number 1 hit" argument, just remember that "Macarena" and "Tub Thumping" were number ones as well, so that proves absolutely nothing other than it was successfully promoted to the right audience at the right time.

Britney Spears or all those American Idol hacks(Clay Aiken..e.t.c.) sold more albums then bands like Soundgarden or the flaming lips and their music contains a depth and originality surpassing any of that top 40 junk. Ok. Just listened to the McFly version so I could get in on this. It's an utterly pointless direct cover. It's a bit like the shot-for-shot remake that was made of Hitchcock's "Psycho" a few years ago. Why record it if you're not going to add anything to it? The only possible reason is to cash in the the talents of a superior songwriter. If you want to rave about great cover versions, you should be looking towards the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday or John Coltrane.
Just strip out some of the essential energy and you have the plodding re-make.
I think people naturally tend to like the first version they hear, which for many is the re-make. Kind of like the way I prefer Camper Van Beethoven's "Pictures of Matchstick Men" to the original.

i much prefer the jellyfish version to the mcfly version, probably because i heard jellyfish first. i feel that the mcfly version is a poor copy, not even a remake which is sad cause they could have done a remake and probably had some of the jellyfish fans interested in it. Anyways, if you like the song you should maybe give the other songs by jellyfish a chance they have some creative lyrics, interesting harmonies and a quirky sound that I have been in love with for almost 15 years.

They've been around for 4 years. And they're amazing. They've won so many awards, had 7 number one singles in 3 years and starred in a Hollywood movie with Lindsay Lohan.

Ok. Just listened to the McFly version so I could get in on this. It's an utterly pointless direct cover. It's a bit like the shot-for-shot remake that was made of Hitchcock's "Psycho" a few years ago. Why record it if you're not going to add anything to it? The only possible reason is to cash in the the talents of a superior songwriter. If you want to rave about great cover versions, you should be looking towards the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday or John Coltrane.

The original and by far the best.
Just strip out some of the essential energy and you have the plodding re-make.
I think people naturally tend to like the first version they hear, which for many is the re-make. Kind of like the way I prefer Camper Van Beethoven's "Pictures of Matchstick Men" to the original.

Video directors often take creative license and do their own take on a song, and don't just literally provide visual interpretation of a band's song.
Unfortunately, being weird, goofy or "different" is what passes for "creativity" in the video business.
Jellyfish and the song are great, the video, not so much.

McFly's cover is a faithful and PALE imitation.
Jellyfish went on to record "Spilt Milk" which many listeners and critics consider to be one of the greatest pop albums of ALL time by ANY band.
These guys were the real deal; head and shoulders above 99% of everything that came before or since.
If you have their albums, you're entitled to your opinion. If you've never experienced them, then you can't know, plain and simple.
Viewing 1 so-so video is not the same thing.

McFLY are a band that are HUGEE in the UK there not a boyband they play their own instruments and write mostly all there own songs but they covered this on and like 2 other but all their other songs were written by them!! personally i like McFLYs version of this better because its more upbeat but this is originally a Jellyfish song so im not gana be mean about there version since its theirs

i liked Jellyfish before McFly, but i have to say that McFly really brought life to this song. Their voices suit it and the guitar is more up beat. McFly brought their own sound into this song and i think they done well.

i much prefer the jellyfish version to the mcfly version, probably because i heard jellyfish first. i feel that the mcfly version is a poor copy, not even a remake which is sad cause they could have done a remake and probably had some of the jellyfish fans interested in it. Anyways, if you like the song you should maybe give the other songs by jellyfish a chance they have some creative lyrics, interesting harmonies and a quirky sound that I have been in love with for almost 15 years.

It was nice to see McFly payinga bit of a tribute to these guys but I doubt most people will even know it's a cover, shame really.

Please! Mcfly, jellyfish wrote it, sing it the way it was written, not some puffed up pop version. This band wrote some of the best songs written in the last 20 yrs. The lyrics alone of this song are far to mature for most of Mcflies fans, as they are prepubesent kids that listen to remakes of every song ever written. Jellyfish were a causalty of the poor taste in music during the rape of the industry by Seatle based slop!

Does anyone know if this band is ever going to make a comeback? Why did they break up? I remember seeing them in 1993 at the Metro the summer before I left for college...It is one of my best memories. They played every song from their first album. Sooooo gooood!

Oh how judgemental of you. Let me geuss you think all McFLY fans are under the age of 12, much like most people who are too high and proud to admit that McFLY are four talented musicians. They may do alot of covers yes but the majority of their songs are written by them and are really amazing. I do think McFLY's version is better becuase quite frankly they sing it better. Congratulations to Jellyfish for writing an awsome song though
