I don't think you can get it if you've killed him before this quest =/
If you got all the pieces of the dagger and killed him then, you can of course try to get to the mountain and use the Shrine, it might work.

@MitchellKraats for some reason now ive killed him i lost the handle bit and i have no idea where its gone! is there any other way of getting the dagger?
I was reforging my rectal area with lotion last night while yelling: "I R TEH CHEIF OF KAIM!" :D
