ET was made in order to make people feel good about aliens, because at that time all they were doing was abducting and probing (we all know what that means!). It was made on behalf of the CIA, NSA, NASA, A.I.P.A (Alien International Probing Association). JewBerg loved making this as they said they wont probe him.

Kathleen Kennedy's story about the little girl freaking out wearing the test E.T. suit sounds eerily similar to what happened on Close Encounters.
Spielberg had an orangutan dressed up as an alien, and that was a crazy test where the thing freaked out and they realized that wouldn't work.

When I was little, this movie was a big part of my life, yet I was so afraid of it. ET was so creepy and I didn't understand the movie [I was 8 and more interested in dragons and dinosaurs]. Now that I'm older, I'd like to see it again, now that I have an interest in aliens...and may better understand the movie as it was meant to be understood.
