Believe it or not, producing a scrawled prediction which has been placed in an envelope is a traditional conjuring effect, performed exactly as here, but it is a traditional trick.
Part of the first trick is the aaa sound in R and Ay sound in Jay. He also says this is a letter of the A-lph-A-bet. Which it is - a common letter in the word Alphabet. He is also unconsiously telling her the answer too the question "THIS IS A.... letter of the alphabet". I picked up those clues but theres probly more :)
It IS an old trick. But he is slick at suggestion and misdirection. People want to believe in the psychology so think it's his language that is subconsciously persuading her but it's not. It's simply a nib on his thumb(@.24) and as she says it he quickly writes it on the outside with carbon inside printing it. The other 2are more tricky though.

@mmin3s I was sad enough to do it and I think I found it out. At 5:23 when he is telling Richard what to do he says "what-i'd like you to do".....but if you listen VERY CAREFULLY he actually says "BOOT" not "what-i'd like you to do"- 5:23 check :P

He's using a thumb writer- thats why he says he going to write it behind his back because it looks messy. See how awkwardly he is holding the envelope, there must be someway of writing through the envelope

Derren uses a lot more traditional conjuring techniques and props when not on his Channel 4 show (when he doesn't use his disclaimer). He has used props on stage freely available from magic suppliers, suggesting that's it's his other techniques, and mixes them in. He comes from a traditional conjuring background.
Believe it or not, producing a scrawled prediction which has been placed in an envelope is a traditional conjuring effect, performed exactly as here, but it is a traditional trick.

Part of the first trick is the aaa sound in R and Ay sound in Jay. He also says this is a letter of the A-lph-A-bet. Which it is - a common letter in the word Alphabet. He is also unconsiously telling her the answer too the question "THIS IS A.... letter of the alphabet". I picked up those clues but theres probly more :)

It IS an old trick. But he is slick at suggestion and misdirection. People want to believe in the psychology so think it's his language that is subconsciously persuading her but it's not. It's simply a nib on his thumb(@.24) and as she says it he quickly writes it on the outside with carbon inside printing it. The other 2are more tricky though.
