  • reminds me of ender's game slightly, with the relativity theory and the fact they use children in the war

  • Shinkai Makoto made good anime!!! before 5cm per second....

wow I love this story, this is awesome!!!

  • 人物の絵が苦労したんだなとわかるねw

  • コックピット・・・なんか微妙

    もっとメカメカしくデザインしてほしかった

  • @whiteangel0004 ok. You could say that if you could produce at least one awesome full animation movie by yourself. show some respect dude.

  • Love this, I own the movie as well, and his second one, trying to find his latest work but its hard to find on dvd so I downloaded it

  • can you tell me the site you downloaded it from please?

  • the reason why the people look badly drawn at parts is because the guy who made this worked on it ALL BY HIMSELF. He just sat at his computer one night and decided he wanted to make Hoshi no Koe. His wife and him did the voices originally but were done over. This is my most favorite movie ever! I like the manga too.

  • actually the reason it looks so awkward is because the guy can't draw. His specialty is computer modeling, that's why he modeled the whole thing in 3D and drew&painted back over top of it. The awkward proportions are from his 3D models being a bit too blocky in some spots. After all, he did the whole thing using standard purchased -in other words, non-professional- programming, on a normal desk top computer. After the success of his short film he had a pro artist do the manga.

  • Yeah, I might as well say that! LOL But, you must admit that the background looks really good. He has some drawing talent, just not the best.

  • I only know this stuff because my DVD came with a "making of" booklet

Most of the backgrounds were done using photos that he drew his line art over, modifying what he needed. The digital painting and rendering of textures were all his own skill though, and that's impressive.

It's amazing that he had such a wide range of visions for the setting; from the gritty little details of the semi-urban Earth setting, to the desert landscapes of Mars, and then the green plains of the one Alien planet.

  • wow. Okay. Thanks for letting me know.

  • Take a look at his newer works. The character drawings get better. I'm not sure if the characters are drawn by him though. The scenery still stays amazing. In fact, I think it gets better too.

  • I rather enjoy the naiveté of these drawings. They have personality and a unique style. the characters in his later works look to much of a generic anime style. Not to say they didn't improve, he still holds a unique characteristic with his textures and backgrounds, but the rendering of the later characters lack enthusiasm.

  • Hello, Orgoik,

I found this anime a few days ago, and I find it very interesting. I read your comments, and I didn't know there's a movie version of this. Can we find it on Youtube or another site online? Thank you for your attention.

  • its not the same thing but the movie is based on the same story. its called 5 centimeters Per Second and the animation is amazinggg and yes u can find it on youtube.

  • @rocklee9876

Thank you, I have seen '5cm per second' already. I was just wondering if they have made a live film with these animations.

  • I like the manga better, it looks waaaaaay better xD

But the storyline is awesome. It's so sad.

  • Oh! Voices of a Distant Star, ne? I have the manga for this one. ^^ Such a beautiful story, ne?

  • Although it's translated like you say, it literally just means "The Star's Voice" or "Voice of a Star", where star obviously is a gaseous body in space (not something weird like a rockstar which would make the title immediately inappropriate XP )

  • that must be really sad

  • Wow, this looks so different than the manga. Well, probably because it was done by someone else... Anyways, I appreciate the upload!

  • I like the manga better. But this is good so far.

  • Hey can any one upload this manga to rapidshare please, and if so be able to give me the links :D ty

  • wow already sad =,(

  • everything in this movie is beautiful! except the character design. i actually read the manga version by mizu sahara first, i like it a lot and recommend it to everyone. she's a fabulous artist. of course the director of this movie gets credit for coming up with the story in the first place. :D

  • うpしてくれてありがと〜。

  • Your welcome

  • This version has much better subtitles than the other one, thanks for posting!
