All great stuff, I met most of these chaps in the early 70's when I got my VCS3. I didn't get to meet all the lovely dancing ladies from 7:27 however :-(
My goodness! There is one more bizarrely amusing and fantastic remark from Tristram Cary here- "In the beginning, people were not serious. I couldn't get any royalties from The PRS Society (Performing Rights Society) because they said that this is not music."
Wow! What a documentary. We should feel fortunate to hear and listen to the pioneers and visionary people in music.
I like it when Tristram Cary says that there is no boundary in electronic music and music for the first time was defined by frequencies as opposed to pitch and notes. That is such a thoughtful remark.
@xBONESstyle Hm, lacking, you say? I wonder which synths you're talking about. Some are lacking, sure--there are still a lot of methods we're still sorting out how to apply aesthetically, however. Generally, I'd say the shortcomings are not in the equipment/techniques, but instead in the operators/musicians.
analog synthesizers, especially older analog synthesizers in many cases, are capable of producing more sounds than your modern day piece of shit keyboard you can buy at guitar center. You can adjust the sound wave, attack, cutoff, resonance, LFO, release, decay, and much more with real synthesizers. The problem is, people are to lazy to take the time and learn how these things work, so they make extremely dumbed-down hardware for todays generation of music.
this is incredible! it's so wonderful when people make real documentaries, not just butt-licking videos about how much they like the chord A-7 after the C-Sus-2 in Elton John's song bla bla bla.

It's funny they say any sound was possible, when even the synths today are lacking.
