Prewrathrapture333, Post placement is important when building a deck. Check with local building codes when designing your deck. The amount of posts you will need depends on the area, height, and overall size of the deck. We offer free deck design at our stores. Just for trying to rip me off for buying a complete store of tools, I will be certain to buy only what I need from Lowes. I especially like how I must have a cordless drill AND a corded drill.
Help. I am planning on creating a free standing deck with a pergola around a hot tub. my hot tub is 34" high. The deck will be completely wrapped around the hot tub. I was considering installng footings to the ground surface and then brackets for 6"X6" post. The post will serve as the framing for the deck and the post for the composit columns of the pergola. I am concerned that the post will not be strudy enough to hold the deck and the pergola's lintels, rafters and purlins. Any advise?
LOL doesnt matter if i rent them or buy them paying a contractor will be still cheap. and making it urself with help of friends and some planning is cheaper better and fun. With that many tools i could probly cut all the trees in my backyard and make deck for my whole neighborhood in one day lmao... jk
what happen to the flashing??? they never say how to install it o.O

Your ledger covered over half of the area of the crawl space vents. Should you do something about that?

Is it possible to build a deck that isn't elevated? Almost like a substitute for a cement patio?

wouldn't a hammerdrill cancel out the regular drill because on most of the hammerdrills yyou can switch off the hammer mode

Sound like it's way cheaper to hire someone to do it. This sounds like it's going to cost thousands of dollars

I wish they would talk about the pros and cons of each footer system. I've heard so many different "right" ways, like
- put gravel on the bottom of the hole
- never put gravel on the bottom, only the top
- never use gravel at all in a footer hole
- never bury wood, put the posts on top of above grade footers
- always bury wood posts below grade in concrete footers

OMG hahah All you need is a full shop of tools. $30-40,000 of tools ought to get you started.

Boycott the home depot for fired man that wore a button that read "In God we trust!"
Thanks Fox News for letting us know!

they just want you to think you need that many tools so you will go to the Home Depot and buy a bunch of stuff you'll hardly ever use again.
x2 on the last post
I'm about to begin building my deck and they don't mention the jackhammer i am going to use to break up the patio I'm replacing with the deck!

People have been building decks for way longer than alot of those tools have existed.
You can do it with a hand saw, a square, a level, and a hammer. it will take longer, but it can be done.

obviously they're advertising their tools rental department lol
illuzn88 2 years ago
Yeah I'm pretty sure I've built a deck using a triangle a miter saw and hammer... I don't know what all this other shit they say you need it.
I like how just the nail gun is optional lol. What about the 3 drills...
